What's new

England close a rain-affected Day 3 of the 1st Test at 25/0 & trail India by 70 runs

Shami on strike now...hope he plays sensiblly....i guess its not swinging as much...and new ball is due very soon...

Now he is saying Maninder had very good defence. I've heard it all now. All the times I saw Maninder, he was a hopeless tailender and any runs from him were bonus.

Think Che pu is on the verge, if he does not get a big one very sooon- vihari or surya will be in...

This is a very handy lead for India on this pitch. And it also vindicates the Indian mgmt decision to drop Ashwin.

Won't want to chase anything more than 100 in 4th innings.

siraj basically will start swinging from the hip or move outside leg and inside out....we'll be bowling soon....

Great to see Curran being tonked. He was the main reason why we lost the last test series in England!

Thats the way to go. Swing the bat hard and hope for the best.

These are all very handy runs. Really frustrating for England especially their openers.

I agree. But it's ok. It's done, and we should move on. Let's enjoy this moment. I have never seen such a great/entertaining performance from Indian lower order. :afridi

Even half of these runs in WTC final would've helped us great deal in that game!

Another boundary!

lol This is once in a life time partnership. England got blindsided . So are we. Never expected this.

Umesh when he hit 3-4 six in over?

This is more runs than India's No.9-11 scored in any innings during the 2018 series.

:))) :))) :)))

They prepared for our bats but our tail came out of syllabus.

What a pleasant surprise

These might very well be winning runs.

We have to bowl horribly to lose from here.

Day 3 - Session 2: India lead by 95 runs

ENG 183/10
IND 278/10

commies just said jazz-boom had 46 runs in 20 tests, he's got over half that in just this innings....well played jazza....good fight....and terrific effort by robinson-5ver...

Good fight back by Indian lower order and tail for a change.

Lead is 95. India will be hoping that they will not be chasing anything more than 150 in the 4th innings.

match winning lead for india, england will be atleast 4 or 5 wickets down before they are level with india again.

So we have outscored England in England by 90-odd runs despite them preparing pitch as per their own wish, them having won the toss and then getting best conditions for batting.

So what was Jimmy saying regarding preparing pitches for this series? He also needed to consider whether Eng's batting lineup could bat on such pitches!

If only our middle order wasn't as crap, we would've easily scored 350+ at least.

71 runs for last three wickets. We were 207-7 when Shardul got out for duck.

Jim's a perenennial serial whinger on certain matters...and he mentioned we shoud'nt comment on grass on their pitches....well i dont think any of the indian media, team or anyone ever commented.....neither did we in 2011, 2014 or 2018

Yeah, that's a credit to us.

I don't think we've commented on pitches post that cow pastures' series in NZ in 2002!

Bro, I was there in Hamilton 2002....The first day you'd struggle to make out the pitch from the rest of the outfield...

That's why I've problem with anyone sooking over our pitches. When we don't protest about the pitches we get when we visit why should anyone else sook about the kind of pitches they get served when they visit us?

Yeah, I remember us getting bowled out in double figures in the first innings and still went on to secure a lead over Kiwis!

How many wickets india takes today assuming no rain anymore . I'll say 3-4

If India get a few quick wickets including root, i can see rest of batting folding like dominoes.

This is interesting. Siraj getting to bowl with the new ball!

But i still feel the amount of turn on the first day in indian pitches (most of them) is unwanted, because the turn increases as the test match progresses, this skews in favour of spinners...i really feel the pitches our our SL tour in 2015 were perfect template for asian subcontinental pitches-they had bounce, even paced-good for batting, and took turn prodigiously on 3.75 to 5th day...i feel thats the way to go...in India i feel the 4th test 2018-dharmshala vs aus or nz was similar bouncy pitch with spin....if we can make such pitches and win, i feel thats more even...

Poor batting performance to not even get a lead of 150 here but ENgland's batting was so poor this is still a great lead. India to roll England over for 120.

Indias previous series and test losses in england, NZ and SA over last decade have mainly been down to letting opposition tail wag and score runs in vital situations. Then in there own inns tail has failed to wag.

so far here they have fixed both those issues, albeit in half a test so far.

looking at sibley's backlift and head falling over in the forward defensive, i feel he is a prime lb candidate for shami's full pitched & reverse swinging

I hope this buries the myth that its Indias lower order and its lack of runs are causing losses abroad. Two takeaways from this match for me. It's the middle order to blame and we must continue to play 4 fast bowlers in SENA.

We've not lost a test in England after leading by 75+ runs on the basis of first innings. Won: 4; Drew: 4.

How would it bury that notion when India's lower order has contributed here while England's got skittled. Usually it is the other way around when Sam Curran was adding vital runs lower down the order in 2018 while our quicks couldn't hold a bat.

I think the 4 quick combination is India's best combo for SENA tours, but make no mistake, if the quicks don't improve their batting, that would definitely come to bite the back of India and India would keep getting 6 out all out kinda scenarios.

Now that England has started batting, sun conveniently comes out.
