England v Pakistan | 3rd Test | Birmingham | Aug 3-7, 2016 | Day 4

Pakistan bowlers are not making English batsmen play. Bowling a little too wide.

Good strategy, that means Pakistan cannot lose the match. The English might get impatient and gift us wickets, or they keep leaving and it ends in a draw.

Why is Botham whining his pants off with the line that the pacers are bowling.

Yasirs been tight today but he hasnt bowled well. Needs to bowl slower outside the off stump and flight it

Yasir needs to have a session of his life if we are to win from here.

Nothing less than a fifer..

Yasir has been bowling either too full or too short.

Not ahead really. The match is headed towards a draw unless England start scoring at 5 RPO.

England actually are (for now).

They are not ahead in stats but if they have wickets in hand...watch their game in session 3.

Then they will put pressure on Pak to bat out Day 5 and while that should be done, scoreboard pressure is a funny game.

However few quick English wickets can change everything.

Problem with yasir is that he only has natural variation , he can't bowl googly or flipper at will.

He can bowl googly but not the flipper, but the ball isn't even spinning a millimeter. Whether that is Yasir's fault or the pitch, IDK.

I doubt they will put pressure when are only 150 160 ahead in the last session start even if they have wickets in hand. If they start scoring rapidly now then they have chance otherwise they can't risk leaving us only 225 to chase in the last innings.

Yasir bowling flat pies as usual. These is really disappointing from him

Bro, this is the best batting track in England. Only help bowlers get here is overcast conditions. Spinners dont have much role to play here. Honestly England Pitch curators have taken spin out of equation here and i wont surprised if its a same at the oval because England wont give even 10% spin at pitch otherwise god have mercy on england team because yasir will run them over. Bet i would take DRAW HERE TO BE HONEST.

Yasir better flight it outside the off stump in this over. He will get some turn that way too

In all honesty we let this match slip from our grip

OK let's crunch some numbers.

England are 80 odd ahead after 1 session today.

Session 2 will have a touch lesser intensity due to pacers tiring a bit.

Another 80-100 runs if they score at the loss off 2-3 wickets...then they have 1 more session to have a go at Pakistan where they can get 100-120.

So that leaves them with a lead of 300-320 with Pakistan having to bat a day.

Now this lead isn't enough for a team like Aus but with pakistan you know they won't go chasing it in alien conditions. If they do, they have to risk their lead so that brings in mental demons.

England are playing like its a draw cos they want to get to a position where it can ONLY be a draw or England win and then they will let Paksitan batsmen deal with their own mental demons.

Wickets is the only way to stop them. Unless Pakistan finds a genius plan to contain them to 80 runs per session for all 3 sessions which is unlikely.

I would love to see them try this , right now they are struggling to find a run of seamers.

Dost Root and Cook can score 100-120 runs a session. I don't think the likes of Woakes, Moeen and Bairstow are good enough to do that.

Sohail Khan's run up (just before the delivery) reminds me of Patrick Patterson.

Why isnt Yasir bowling outside off stump!!!

Yasir is a bit different from Warne. Yasir always likes to be at the stumps while Warne liked bounce and outside off. There was a sky video where Atherton compared his stats of lbw and bowled wickets to Warne's where he had a higher percentage of dismissals while Warne had a higher percentage of caught behind dismissals. I think he is backing his strengths.

Amir around the wicket hopefully some swing.

Here's a stat

Moeen Ali's bowling avg this series is 43.57, Yasir Shah's is 43.5 at the moment.

Bhai, the ball is 67 overs old with the sun out. Why are you expecting swing?

sohail is constantly getting some movement of seam probably a little hint of reverse idea is to ball cross seamed until new ball ??

Good tactics from Pakistan. Ensures that we don't lose.

Misbah is looking quite tiered and frustrated.

Trying to bore the batsmen into making a mistake.

Try the odd inswinger in there too.

In a session where runs are needed and their wickets aren't worth much.

100 runs in 30 overs is not that big a deal. That's 3.33 rpo. 120 runs with a decent amount of slogging is still 4 rpo only.

Old Trafford...England practically scored at 3.86 rpo first innings. Lord's too same in first innings.

Old Trafford 2nd innings was intended for slogging (scored at 5.76 rpo) so I would exclude that just like Lord's 2nd innings where they had to chase a target (2.xx rpo).

Even in first innings here, England scored at 3.4 rpo.

England are not frustrated , they are hanging in there. Every passing minute takes them to a favorable results.

damn once in 40 balls this happens and misses the edge frustrating.
