Highest score =/= Highest impact
Until we have a genuine AR, playing a genuine bowler ahead of Iftikhar type lulloss is far more beneficial
Highest score =/= Highest impact
This is pretty stupid logic from you and again shows your
1) lack of understanding of cricket
2) ignorance regarding Pakistan cricket
3) failure to understand things such as context
It's absolutely ridiculous and laughable for you to consider Sarfaraz's record outside Asia prior to this series. His Australia match you point to was his debut match which came after the Sydney 2010 debacle. Pakistans confidence was at an all time low and he was specially flown in from Pakistan on the eve of the test to replace the butter fingered Kamran Akmal. So to expect any Pakistani player to perform very well in Australia on his debut match where he has flown into Australia one day before the Test is a ridiculous expectation
The South Africa numbers you point to are again misleading because for a long time he was being given tough away tours whereas golden boy Adnan Akmal was playing in UAE. So the South Africa series again was him playing after a long time out.
Only after he did well on the Sri Lanka tour of the year later was it not possible to play Akmal over him in UAE. He got the UAE matches and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Only since then is he established and it is fair to look at his numbers outside Asia. This is his first series and he has done reasonably okay and certainly better than the expectations we have of our keeper batsmen and their historical performances in England.
Now coming to the current situation. I definitely don't think Sarfaraz is eequipped to play long, match impacting innings in most conditions outside Asia. But he has done generally ok and exceeded expectations this series.
But the question is do we have replacements and this is where you have shown your total ignorance in the matter. You are cheerleading Rizwans inclusion here but then apparently you are also the 'Englishman' who wants Amad Butt, Hasan Ali and Jaahid Ali in the Pakistan squad and seem to be fairly confident in their ability and game which is pretty interesting considering most Pakistan fans themselves haven't seen them play.
Rizwan won't be put better number than what Sarfataz has put in England period. Sarfaraz's numbers aren't great either but with Rizwans style and technique it is a recipe for disaster to think he was average more than the late 20s and high 30s that Sarfaraz has done.
Now finally lets come to the keeping aspect. Sarfaraz is a superior keeper to Rizwan in every condition there possibly is. Rizwans keeping has left a lot to be desired even in the one day arena in UAE. With a team like Pakistan it is imperative that we have a relatively safe keeper who keeps bowler at a minimum. Sarfaraz by and large does that. He won't take any screamers which Rizwan might but he sure as hell is an overall safer keeper than Rizwan.
Pakistan can't afford the keeper dropping catches along with our slips so it is imperative we have the best option there who had SOME contribution with the bat.
On the basis of this series Sarfaraz has some very well and had certainly booked his seat for the tours of Australia and New Zealand.
Well. Scoring 165 at a strike rate of 66 is a match winning effort and that too in a match that decides the fate of the series. Most impactful knock by anyone not named Joe root in this series no?
He is a nothing pick - I can't tell who was behind the selection, but these are decisions that actually raises eye brows. Any given day, I'll pick a 5th bowler, as good a batsman as Imran Jr. over this guy.
People still arguing over Sarfrazevem Boycott yesterday said he is a serious batsman
If we win this match, this innings will go down as one the best overseas innings by a PAkistani
Yes..true this could be.
But those who fought hard to get Pakistan to THIS position can't be brushed aside.
Its like Gilly not doing well in WC normal matches and then clicking in finals and then you say..only because of Gilly, Aus won. Of course, they won bcos of Gilly but then its not an entirely true statement either.
Plus this knock's impact will be known once England bat.
Brute of a knock no doubt but impact is yet to be judged based on how this pitch behaves.
I think the analogy may not be a proper one. I'm not claiming that YK has been better than Azhar/asad/Misbah etc. Im saying nobody else has the pedigree for such big daddy hundreds like he has in crucial matches. That too i the twilight of his career SIF.
Job is not done yet but credit to Pakistan for fighting.
It would've been easy to feel sorry for ourselves after Edgbaston and the drops on Day 1 but we've shown guts. 2010 bunch would've collapsed pathetically.
REspect for the Man. I called it before the series YK will be the highest scorer for Pakistan
