What's new

England (387 & 192) defeat India (387 & 170) by 22 runs to take 2-1 lead in the 5-match Test series

bumrah wasim are similar in level
imran slightly below
then shami waqar
followed by shoaib srinath zak vaas etc

asian goats
In tests?

Bumrah and IK, both are above Wasim. Wasim does not have a great record against top sides home and away both.

That wicket was all Joe Root, incredible catch that also with his left hand when he is right handed.

Though disappointing to get out (not even scoring a 50) but at least saw off the new ball for a while...

This partnership is key now! (especially with Pant injured)

Yes tests
You are correct sorry

Imran gets underrated by a lot in general

Guys please stick to the thread topic, for discussing other legends bump relevant threads.

over rate being what it is , IND will get max 50 overs today unless both Bashir & Root bowl in tandem which is unlikely .
79/2 in 23

People talk about Archer and rightfully so
And they also talk about carse being good

But no one mentions stokes bowlinf

He always picks up important wickets.

He is very underrated as a bowler

Too bad his body can’t handle the world load for too long

Gill has really tightened up his technique, he has reduced the gap between bat and pad when blocking and driving the ball and he's been disciplined outside the off stump. If only Abdullah Shafique could take notes.

The gulf in talent between the two is enormous.

Indians hate Nair, but he looked solid today....if indians knew they would have wished Gill wicket for him

If I was the coach of England I would have ripped that chain off Jofra Archer’s neck.

Not only is it looking ugly but isn’t that interfering with his run up rhythm?

This kind of chhapri stuff doesn’t belong in test cricket.

The gulf in talent between the two is enormous.

The point was to highlight the attitude and work ethic gap between the two players. One player rose to the occasion as captain and has minimized his technical issues by tigthening his defense, reducing the gap b/w bat and bat while defending and driving, being discplined outside off stump and playing with soft hands, late.

Abdullah on the other hand still has the same technical issues where he has a gap b/w bat and pad while defending and driving and is susceptible to the inswinger early in his innings. Yousaf even indicated in an interview that Abdullah doesn't really work hard on his issues.

England playing psychological war with Gill...If Jamie persists as stand in keeper for him all this session, then he will end up throwing his wicket. But all depends on persistent pressure

A result is only possible if this pitch deteriorates majorly on day 4 or IND collapses in this innings & is all out under 300 .... both appear unlikely atm .
103/2 in 31 - 55 minutes play left .

Keeper is up because Woakes is a trundler.

I have never rated Carse and looks like I'll have the last laugh.
Guy is quick and tries to be relentless but the art of picking wickets is missing

India looking pretty solid now.

England need some sort of inspiration, maybe try an unorthodox field get them playing more attacking. Standing up to keeper is a defensive move at this stage imo

Let's try this with Archer and Stokes...Jamie should not worry for byes
They won't because it's a stupid ploy when bowlers have pace. They won't be able to hold on to the catches off edges.

You can do that for bowlers of Woakes' current pace.

Eng needs a wicket here. Can't allow too large a partnership here.

Gill has crossed 600 runs in this series and series is not even half way done.

Needs to get him out otherwise he will again go big.

Ok Stokes knew what he is doing out there.

England need to bring back Jofra now, get into Pant . A collapse is possible

And wood if they want something more

Mark Wood will soon be 36 and has only taken 18 wickets in his last 7 Tests over 2 years at 36.xx. He's hardly the saviour.

The guys in the squad are the best bowlers available + maybe Matthew Potts for the channel bowling.

Dangerman gone.

I think Eng can take a lead now. Just need to keep taking wickets.

Remember Jonathan Trott, he was a beast until he lost his mental toughness in 2014 against Johnson
So your point is he lost his mental toughness in 3 days after he scored 400 runs in a Test but a guy who can't score a single 50 is somehow mentally tougher ?

Wiser teams just need to play mind games with him...Unlike Lara mind games don't make him strong.

He's not that good. A complete FTB, this pitch is not conducive to run scoring as the last two games
Pitch is reltively flat here as well. Off coruse he is not that good otherwise he wouldn't have been averaging in 30s before this series started, but we can't ignore him scoring 600+ runs already in this series. He was surely a danger man as far as I am concerned.

Bashir does not look like , he is going to take any wicket , unless Batsman tries to go too hard.

Eng batting 110 overs gave some rest to bowlers. Same score with only 80 overs would have been way worse.

Archer strikes on comeback in see-saw third Test

Jofra Archer took a wicket with the third delivery of his comeback on a memorable and fluctuating second day of the third Test between England and India.

After more than four years away with career-threatening injuries, Archer electrified Lord's by having Yashasvi Jasiwal caught at second slip, wheeling away to celebrate with overflowing emotion.

Somehow, India suffered only one loss in Archer's opening burst, but England plugged away in the extreme heat for two more crucial breakthroughs.

Joe Root's magnificent catch at first slip not only ended Karun Nair's resistance at 40, but also gave Root his 211th grab in Tests, a record for an outfielder. The bowler was captain Ben Stokes, fit after a first-day injury scare.

Of more significance was the removal of prolific India captain Shuman Gill, caught behind off Chris Woakes for 16.

KL Rahul remains on 53, Rishabh Pant is fit to bat after a finger injury and has 19. India closed on 145-3, 242 behind England's 387 all out.

For all of the excitement around Archer, his was not the most influential spell of fast bowling of the day: Jasprit Bumrah tore through England with 5-74.

Bumrah bowled Stokes for 44, had Root play on after he completed his 37th Test century and took an edge to condemn Woakes to a golden duck, all in a seven-ball period.

England slipped to 271-7, but India crucially dropped Jamie Smith on five. The wicketkeeper was fluent for 51, adding 84 with Brydon Carse, who was impressive for his maiden Test half-century.

I think Bowlers probably demanded them to stay long at the crease. ANyway it is turgid, super slow according to Root. So run making is hard without patience. Same way wicket takign is harder if the batsmen show patience. It is a contest between who is more patient. Don't think you can produce too many jaffas on this wicket. May be later with spin helping.

Only early wickets tomorrow can help England cause, otherwise a close finish or slim lead could make India favorites... Apparently this Test is moving towards a draw but somehow it may won't happen

You need Rahul Dravid, Pujara kind of players who can pull off a draw. Needs immense focus, attention, concentration to stay at the crease for long periods. Because you can't get to other end as often as you want here. So you may end up playing all 6 balls in an over more often than not. That means your concentration level has to be top notch.
