With the injury/fitness concerns to key players like Pant, Bumrah... and lack of resources (we no more have test specialists, we depend on bits & piece players & IPL tested players. The problem is our Ranji products like Karun Nair, Sarfaraz, etc are looking inferior than IPL guys like Sudarshan, Sundar, etc.) BCCI may consider opting for just 3 match series against Australia & England from hereon... The stupid coach & rookie captain could force this...

If this series ended after Lords Test it would have meant 2-1 reading to India, with last match closely fought and 1st match was competitive... Now we may see 4-1 reading with last 2 being totally one sided and players end up losing fitness...

It is easier to endure in a long series for home teams, even in case replacement is needed they are easily available (like how they got Dawson for Bashir, Archer for Tongue). That's why only the old WI & Aus were the true ATG Teams (particularly in tests).

Having said that I don't take this mocking of Indian Team... They are definitely at the level of 90s South African team in tests, and much better in LOIs... They are competitive in SENA tests, its not that they are surrendering without any kind of fight... This has been a trend now (home dominance in tests) with all teams... NZ were lucky to catch India at an awkward phase... Good for them, because they were finding it difficult to win even a single test in their tours to India, perhaps may struggle in future too... So we gifted them with a garland...

In fact with a better approach and planning, India can do even better... (reach the level of past Aus/WI). We don't select our team properly & the management doesn't monitor them properly... Gill had not even cemented his position in test side, but he is straight away given the captaincy in a hurry, and termed as Kohli's successor... Even Gill went overboard, he shouldn't have shown that fake aggression in this series, should have silently gone about his job (got overconfident after 2nd test)

India closed on 165-2, 137 behind thanks to a rearguard partnership between KL Rahul and Shubman Gill.

The tourists had been 0-2, but Rahul and captain Gill blunted an England attack shorn of Ben Stokes, who did not bowl all day.

Skipper Stokes earlier completed his first hundred in more than two years to lift England to 669, their third-highest total in a home Test.

From 0-2, Rahul and Gill came together for a unbroken stand of 174 across almost 63 overs. Gill has 78, Rahul has 87.
