Fourth Test between England (669) and India (358 & 425/4) ended in a draw with the hosts leading the five-match series 2-1

The three leading batsmen in this series are Indians. It is the bowling that has let them down. Bumrah (injury prone owing to work overload) apart, seam bowling lacks penetration. Siraj looks good most of the time but he can also be a bit wayward. Should have taken more wickets.

Jadeja is a batter who can be a good support spinner in SENA conditions. However, India needed to play a specialist spinner like Kuldeep or Chahal etc.
 
ENG will win this ... amazing stuff from these 2 batting for 373 balls after being in field for 158 overs !

It's quite impressive how much KL Rahul has improved as a batsman this year. Seems like one of the most level-headed players in the Indian line-up

35 is a decent average for an opener in test cricket. I wouldn't call it good. 40 is the benchmark for good. But he has improved considerably and averages 58 in test cricket this year.

This is the Stokes gambit. When he's at his best he can score a hundred and take a 5-wicket haul in the same match. But it comes at a cost. The fact that he hasn't bowled yet tells you he is feeling his hamstring.

If fit stokes is lethal. Honestly he was Englands best bowler by far

And I am serious. By far.
 
Bumrah - injury prone after back surgery

Should only play 3 tests with big games in between for big 5 test series if pitches will be ultra flat or unless India pick 3 proper fast bowlers like we did in test 2.

Stokes - he bowls really well if he wants to but again if he does well in bowling he is injury prone like bumrah. What a captain he is though.

Remember this is a rookie side and we made many mistakes. Should have been up 2-1

I am happy with the effort but not selections. Hopefully we can salvage something in the last match. Today is day 5. Let’s see if India can show some fight again. It will be tough if stokes bowls and India has to survive 30 overs of new ball. Rain might come into play so will be so overcast conditions. It’s a tough ask. But you got to start somewhere right?

Let’s see what the rookies are made of. Good effort

He was but the risk is pretty big. I think England would rather have Stokes fit and just batting and captaining, rather than not being in the side at all.

Well yea we saw what he did batting too. But my personal opinion, he is too good a bowler to not be bowling.

I know it destroys his back but he should try to strengthen it or something. Cause if stokes can’t bowl in Aus, I see Aus thumping them. Stokes bowling changes everything. Will be very interesting then.
 
Stokes' problem is that even when his body says no, his mind says go.

He's a good bowler and clearly enjoys bowling in England. But he needs to understand that he can't be bowling 25 overs every innings at his age and with his history of injuries. Needs to hold himself back a bit and dial down the number of overs otherwise he will get injured and that will be a far bigger blow to England.

Gill is top scorer of this Series by some distance ( 697*@100) while KL is 2nd highest scorer of this series ( 508)

When was two overseas players was the top scorer in a Away Series

Is he done for this series? Will he be able to participate in a 2 match series or there also play only 1 match. Next year, there is a NZ tour and SL tour. Can he play 4 tests next year? Can he play any home test this year or is he done for the year?

He is consistent this series. I am satisfied this time. He should maintain this from now on. Agree about his letdowns in the past. But we should appreciate this time.
 
Things will get clear by lunch, where this game is going... I think England let this match slip away from their hands.... Could be a draw

Its a damn shame i have my best friend of 18 years coming over today so I will have to skip most of today and cant stick to terrorising the clown gang.

Regardless India deserves humiliation for the rest of time

Also, not all pitches will be flat like it was this time. I still feel he is only a matter of 2-3 short series behind a retirement from test cricket.

Probably. Make 5 times the income in ipl vs tests? It’s a no brainer I guess

Full credit to him to have prioritised tests this far. But yes we will see a lot more of this happen.

There is no money in test cricket outside England and Australia. And South Africans do love tests but lot of the saffer players come from rich schools and have huge family backing. Majority of them are rich. So they can afford to prioritize tests which is the pinnacle of cricket.

Other countries inclusive of India pay pittance for test cricket. So many will prioritize t20 sadly. That is just how it’s going to be.

Indian players earn multiples of crores playing ipl and enjoy the endorsement money that comes with it. Tests don’t pay anywhere near as much. I was always afraid of this situation.

I just hope bumrah can play for 3 more years somehow. But if he doesn’t want to then fair enough. Rather bring some young talent from ranji and A tour that is hungry to prove himself. We will find someone.

South Africans don't prioritise Tests. QDK, Klassen all retired from Test cricket first. Even Nortje is likely done with Test cricket.

Only England and Australia can afford to play a lot of Tests.

I said they love tests the most but yea with the advent of SA t20 things will change for them too.

But their players come from Wealthy families as majority of them come through rich private schools so they can actually afford to focus entirely on tests rather than self preserve themselves for t20 ipl etc
 
Literally had zero hopes after 0/2 but what a comeback from KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. A ray of hope is there. :kp

I think it will go down to final session ... for ENG to win , they need 4 wickets in 1st session . New cherry 17 overs away & we will get 10-12 overs of that in 1st session .
What has perplexed me is the behavior of pitch - it was dry on day 1 , there was variable bounce from one end & overhead conditions were bowling friendly & everyone including commies thought 370 would be decent . When ENG came to bat on day 2 , it was sunny , ball moved the least during the series so far as per cricviz & IND's bowling was wayward !
Then again every expert said day 4 & 5 the variable bounce & spin would be enhanced & what we saw after 12-15 overs of IND's innings was that everything flattened out , no variable bounce or prolific turn for rest of the day though both batsmen batted beautifully with crazily low false short percentage !
What ENG would really love is couple of wickets before the new ball !
Will be 3-1 here .

If we had better alternates in the bench we would be strict. But he is shown consistency as an opener at times when we are having difficulty to even find good middle order batsmen.
 
If these two fall rest will crumble. It is very sad morkel and gambhir destroyed our team with their idiotic narcissistic behavior. To stand for 90 overs is a gigantic task for this team. As an Indian fan I still wish they will try for a draw

It’s impossible to win from here. Best we can do is bat 3 session without losing more than 2 wickets and then see what happens. New ball will be interesting.

Will Rahul step up for once in his life in tests? We shall see
Is gill going to step up and prove himself as someone who isn’t a flat track tulla?

Pitch is pretty placid. Little bit of variable bounce. Batsmen should be fine if they survive 20 to 30 overs of the new ball. But it’s up to them

England have missed Bashir. He gets that bounce and over spin which is very handy.

I can see now why England have invested in him. He is raw but has the right credentials. For me hes a must in Australia where bounce and over spin is vital.

In the County Games we've had quite a few draws here for Lancashire. The wicket still looks very flat.

I would also say India needs to go for the win otherwise they cannot win the series . Unless they are content with a draw .

England will of course go for victory but will rely on stokes and archer. Dawson has to hold up an end .

A draw here could allow India to level the series at the oval , which is traditionally the nearest to an Asian pitch .

I would say if these 2 survive 3 sessions then maybe draw is possible although wicket is still palcid

New ball can do tricks for 25 30 overs though

After half hours plays , it’s evident England are going hard for the win knowing it’s a good day 5 surface, with stokes showing his competitive nature . A great althlete .
