What's new

Fourth Test between England (669) and India (358 & 425/4) ended in a draw with the hosts leading the five-match series 2-1

A lefthander on crease & 2 more to come at 6 & 7 & lot of rough for Dawson to work with ... & the new ball after 8 overs .
Innings defeat ? Gill got a hit on glove , variable bounce evident ...

After half hours plays , it’s evident England are going hard for the win knowing it’s a good day 5 surface, with stokes showing his competitive nature . A great althlete .

As I type he makes the breakthrough , great delivery!

It’s open now for England! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
This is why I will never ever rate Rahul highly

Always fails when he is needed

Sensing a wicket here... the runs have dried up... India needs to be careful here but they cannot be deadbeat on crease. Pressure is mounting

Sky Sports Cricket's Ricky Ponting:

"I'd be thinking about giving him a rest now and bowling someone else at that end, then I'd give Stokes the new ball along with maybe Woakes.

"The other thing with him is, once he stops bowling it might be hard for him to get going again with that peck or shoulder problem.

"I think he must be fine. You wouldn't be risking someone like Ben Stokes if it was that bad. Maybe they knew about it before he started bowling this morning... and it certainly hasn't hindered the way he's bowled.

"He's looked the most dangerous, hasn't he? Every time he's got that ball in his hand during the series, he's made something happen. He's setting an example for his team."

He should now calm down, forget about sledging and concentrate on captaincy. Should start growing as a premier batsman.

A century but a lame one , played for his numbers , nothing about a captains innings like pointing did , even tho both sides will likely lose now .

A good rest at lunch and England to run through the tail

88 runs behind. Jadeja and Washi will have to tire the England bowlers now and then India will need Rishabh Pant contribution to save the test match. Only 49 runs in this session. They have to find a way to get into lead.

If these two can't save this test then only one of them should be in our test playing XI. Period. One should make way for a specialist batsman. And the next man beefy should make way for a specialist spinner. If you still fail then well it's fine we are not good enough to win overseas. But hate this defensive ******** we are not achieving anything with this!

This is not good enough

Too bad we don’t even have any better batsmen to try

Or maybe we do but they are not ready yet

All those cute 100s on flat track is meaningless if you don’t make it count

I think the game will be similar to last. Jadeja will be last man standing and everyone will applaud how he played a spectacular innings and was unlucky not to save the Test match.

I thought Dawson was quite good.
Very economical.
Looked better than bashir economy wise but bash gets the bounce and wickets despite going for runs

There’s a reason Bum Dawson has played such few tests, with all his experience, there are a million bowlers in the country who can hold an end, we need wickets from him, especially on the 5th day as a bare minimum. He can cry foul but he needs to back himself up here, he is just proving Stokes right and the old man club in the county circuit brutally wrong.

While Dawson didn't take any wicket, he kept it very tight. Didn't leak runs.

32-10-49-0.

Honestly, for an experienced bowler that’s a pathetic return for me, economy and bowling averages are pointless in these situations and don’t give the whole picture, this guy is having zero impact on the game so far.

Seems he is in the team for his bowling + batting. Why is Jack Leach not being preferred? He is the second highest wicket-taker in the County Championship

It also proves that stats alone doesn’t mean squat

As with the case for india
Khamoj has insane stats in domestic

But I can guarantee we could find 10 bowlers better than this fraud. Atleast 3 to 5 of them would have the pace and bounce to be good in any condition outside Asia. Domestic stats doesn’t add value. You need to look at skills

England and Australia and also nz are great at spotting talent through their domestic systems. England identified bash to be a tall bowler who gets overspin and steep bounce. They knew he had the skills to succeed in most conditions despite his average stats in first class. They had a process in mind.

Identifying talent is way harder and stats alone prove much. Depends on what conditions they play in, what the team composition is and how the player is being used etc

False picture. That's why stats don't mean much without context. Reason is that India are playing for a draw and Dawson given it's Day 5, is bowling at the rough which is managed rather well by just not attempting any shots at all.

England has dropped like 3 catches, very bad in the field and they might not be able to win the match here despite being in a dominating position.

That’s right but next match is in Oval which is traditionally the closest England got to subcontinent style pitches. I would like to see Kuldeep in that one and Kamboj out.

The deficit is now less than 50, with India continuing to frustrate England - who will make the breakthrough?

DK is so obsessed with his Chennai mates. Used to hype Ashwin a lot in past and now does the same for Sundar.

England threw it away with sloppy fielding. 3 dropped catches I believe.

It is now heading toward a draw.
Can you tell me who and when were they dropped?
I remember jaddu being dropped

What were the other 2?

India dropped 8 in test 1 hence lost

India deserved to win that match or draw atleast

Foolish Root dropped Jadeja first ball , all the runs scored by him and stokes in this match are a waste now. England should have been inching towards a victory by now.
