He has a weakness vs spin and medium pacers varying length on slow pitches and hence it was important to survive that phase for him. It is easier to say that he should have rotated strike but he could have been goner too. He was just playing safe which was correct reading of the game given how wickets have fallen apart. Rohit's inning helped him take that decision.
