Islamabad Police along with their Punjab Police counterparts on Sunday reached PTI chairman Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence in Lahore to take him into custody for his persistent absences from Toshakhana court hearings.

The 70-year-old former prime minister, who has been recovering from a gunshot injury from an assassination attempt in Wazirabad last year, has thrice skipped indictment hearings in an Islamabad sessions court in the case.

Imran is accused of allegedly concealing, in his assets declarations, details of the gifts he retained from the Toshakhana — a repository where presents handed to government officials from foreign officials are kept. Officials are legally allowed to retain gifts provided they pay a pre-assessed amount, typically a fraction of the value of the gift.

In a series of tweets today, the Islamabad Police said an operation to arrest Imran was being conducted with the cooperation of the Lahore police.

It stated that the PTI chief was “avoiding” the arrest, adding that the superintendent of police had “gone into Imran’s room but he was not present there”.

“Legal action will be taken against those obstructing the execution of court orders,” the police added.

Meanwhile, footage on television show police officials in Islamabad Police uniform as well as Punjab Police being held back by PTI workers outside the Zaman Park residence.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal on Feb 28, issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the PTI chief when he failed to appear in person for the indictment. Imran had four in-person court hearings that day, and managed to secure bail in three of the four cases.

The warrant, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, stated that Imran had repetitively failed to appear before the court. “The accused is making a pick and choose for courts and cases and this case is not included in his priority.”

“The accused be summoned through a non-bailable warrant of arrest for March 7,” it added.

Fawad warns of country-wide protests if ‘red line’ crossed
In a press conference outside Imran’s residence, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that the Islamabad Police had arrived at the ex-premier’s residence to execute his arrest in the Toshakhana case.

“There are 74 cases against Imran. It is humanly not possible for any person to appear in court in all these cases,” he said, claiming that Imran’s arrest was aimed at postponing the upcoming general elections in Punjab.

Fawad stated that Imran had always respected the judiciary and appeared before courts whenever he was called. “But they want Imran Khan to go to court so that terrorists can target him again.”

He then called on party workers across the country to prepare. “If they cross the red line, there will be a protest that Pakistan has never seen before,” Fawad added.

On the other hand, PTI vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi asked supporters not to panic.

“The notice [presented by the police] does not have any arrest orders. Imran Khan and our legal team will hold a meeting at 2:30pm and then announce our plan of action,” he stated.

The party, Qureshi went on to say, will follow the legal process in this regard.

“We are a political party and we will have a political approach to this situation as well. You need to not worry but stay cautioned. We will meet Imran Khan right now,” he added.

In response to a question, Qureshi said that the only concern the party had was related to Imran’s security.

Toshakhana Reference
Imran was set to be indicted in the Toshakhana Reference on Feb 28, but his lawyer had requested ADSJ Iqbal that he be exempted from the hearing because he had to appear in several other courts. His indictment was deferred twice before.

The judge had then issued arrest warrants for Imran and adjourned the hearing till March 7.

The reference, which alleges that Imran had not shared details of the gifts he retained from the Toshaskhana (during his time as the prime minister) and proceeds from their reported sales, was filed by lawmakers from the ruling coalition last year. On October 21, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had concluded that the former premier had indeed made “false statements and incorrect declarations” regarding the gifts.

The Toshakhana is a department under the Cabinet Division that stores gifts given to rulers and government officials by heads of other governments and foreign dignitaries. According to Toshakhana rules, gifts/presents and other such materials received by persons to whom these rules apply shall be reported to the Cabinet Division.

The watchdog’s order had said Imran stood disqualified under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution.

Subsequently, the ECP had approached the Islamabad sessions court with a copy of the reference, seeking proceedings against Imran under criminal law for allegedly misleading officials about the gifts he received from foreign dignitaries during his tenure as the prime minister.

Imran addresses party workers at Zaman Park residence in Lahore as police wait outside seeking his arrest

PTI Chairman Imran Khan is currently addressing his party workers at an event at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore despite Islamabad Police being present outside and told earlier that he was “not available”.

The Islamabad Police along with their Punjab Police counterparts arrived at Imran’s residence earlier in the day to take him into custody for his persistent absences from Toshakhana court hearings.

Leaders of the ruling coalition parties on Sunday reacted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s possible arrest, stating that the deposed prime minister is “afraid to get arrested”.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz took to Twitter to criticise Imran and said that “today the country knows the difference between a leader and a jackal”.

“Even if the lion is innocent, he holds his daughter's hand and comes to Pakistan from London to give his arrest and if a jackal is a thief, he hides by making other people's daughters a shield for fear of arrest!” she said.

Addressing the crowd of PTI loyalists, Imran said he had never “bowed before any man or institution, and will never let you do so as well”.

Imran said he had called the public to Zaman Park to pay tribute to them for the way they participated in the ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ (court arrest movement). “I did not call you for my support but to thank you,” he added.

He said “only a nation, and not a group” could confront the challenges being faced by the country.

Assailing the government’s performance, he said it was the “worst time” for the country as the economy had “sunk” and the people were being crushed by “record high inflation in Pakistan’s history”.

He lashed out at government leaders, alleging that they had stashed their wealth overseas and were given protection in legal cases by former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The PTI chief renewed his allegation that “all those in power today” were behind the Wazirabad assassination attempt on him, but named Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and an intelligence official in particular.

These PMLN idiots see being arrested as something to be proud of!

They want chaos to stop the elections. Not one case is genuine and these crooks will destroy PK to stay out of jail. The Generals have lost all support, I was a supporter because I thought they wanted the best for PK but these haraamis are in it for the money. May Allah protect PK and Kaptaan from these criminals

Thick as thieves. Our Army has lost millions of supporters that they will never get back because they have revealed themselves to be nothing more than common criminals with guns. This is an army my dad served in to protect Pakistan from Ind. Today its just a front for criminals

PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday dodged arrest as Islamabad Police showed up at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore with court summons to take him into custody for his persistent absences from Toshakhana court hearings.

When the Islamabad Police along with their Punjab Police counterparts arrived at Imran’s residence just after noon today, they found a horde of PTI supporters along with party leaders, and were informed that the PTI chief was “unavailable”.

With PTI workers outnumbering the police contingent, and despite Islamabad police chief earlier saying that they won’t go back empty-handed, the arrest could not be made. The Islamabad police left Imran’s residence at around 1:30pm.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said on Sunday that the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was not a "big issue", but the government wanted the courts to convict him first.

The statement came as the former prime minister demanded a "public trial" of the Toshakhana case before a crowd gathered inside Zaman Park, hours after police claimed he was avoiding arrest after they returned empty-handed from his Lahore residence without even meeting the PTI chairman.

Islamabad police had travelled to Lahore earlier in the day to arrest Imran Khan over warrants issued against him in the Toshakhana (gift repository) case. Police officials said the former premier was avoiding arrest, as his staff told them he was "unavailable" when they visited Zaman Park with the court orders.

Imran evades arrest amid high drama
PTI supporters prevent police from entering Zaman Park residence; Shibli Faraz tells police party chief not available

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday evaded arrest as his supporters prevented the Islamabad police from entering his Zaman Park residence in Lahore amid high drama.

However, the police were able to serve the notice on the PTI chief, handing it to his chief of staff Shibli Faraz, for “compliance” of the arrest warrants issued by the sessions court of the federal capital in the Toshakhana case.

On March 1, the court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran in the Toshakhana case hours after the PTI chief secured bail from an anti-terrorism court (ATC) and the banking court in two other cases.

Imran was required to appear before Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal. On his non-appearance in the case, the court rejected his application for exemption from personal attendance and issued the arrest warrants.

On Sunday, a team of the Islamabad police led by Superintendent of Police (SP) City Hussain Tahir reached Zaman Park for the compliance of the warrant. Senator Faraz, reportedly, told the police that Imran was not available.

An Islamabad district and sessions court on Monday reserved its verdict in a petition filed by PTI chairman Imran Khan seeking the cancellation of his arrest warrants issued in the Toshakhana case over his persistent absences in the case hearings.

The same court had last week issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran after he decided not to turn up before the court while attending hearings of three other cases — prohibited funding, terrorism, and attempted murder — filed against him in other local courts located in proximity.

On Sunday, an Islamabad police team was sent to Lahore to arrest Imran with the court summons. However, it returned empty-handed after the PTI chief evaded the arrest.

Subsequently, Imran petitioned the Islamabad sessions court arguing that the withdrawal of warrants would enable him “a fair opportunity to appear and defend himself” in the case.

Sit down.

Imran got slapped by Bajwa’s men and got kicked out of the PM office. What did his supporters do? Nothing.

He almost got assassinated. What did his supporters do? Nothing.

Sure, it was self-orchestrated for political sympathy but that is not the narrative his supporters sell, and the reality is that their reaction was not strong and aggressive enough to complement their big talk.

All the “no one can touch Imran Khan because the nation will descend into civil war” bravado proved to be hot air.

Do you have any proof to make such a ludicrous claim?

A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Monday dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan's request to cancel non-bailable warrant issued for him in the Toshakhana case, upholding the former prime minister’s arrest warrant.

Earlier in the day, the court had reserved the verdict in the case.

On behalf of the deposed prime minister, lawyer Qaiser Imam, barrister Gohar and Ali Bukhari had filed a petition in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal.

This is very normal from the anti-IK brigade.

They should have plenty of material to discredit Khan without needing to invent fairy tales. It just makes their case look weaker which has the opposite effect to the intent.

He should be happy I guess. He has been asking everyone to fill the prisons. What is he waiting for ? He will become a bigger hero in the eyes of masses. He might end up doing something that even Quaid e Azam never did. Spend a day in jail. Optics will be great for him.

This episode itself is confusing. What's the issue in appearing in the court and proving his innocence. Shouldn't such cases be easy to win?

Maybe their is something in the case so might be worrying. But then likes of Sharifs, Zardaris toshakhana needs to be investigated too. Why just one sided

I would be pleasantly surprised if the numb brains of our public will wake up. They can cry about inflation for a little bit and go back into the trans mode.

The army is holding all the cards. PDM imbeciles are only the pawns on the chessboard.

Perhaps Pakistan should've never been created.

I don't understand Pakistan politics but why is Imran Khan acting as a rebel? Considering the economic situation of Pakistan, should Imran's party not work as a mature opposition and work together with the govt to find out a solution of this economic mess? What is the point of taking the country to the brink of civil war? Whom does it help? Definitely not Pakistan.

Imran Khan should not hide from arrest. It is leaving a bad impression of him.

Work with who? SS isn't a PM, he is front man. The Generals have decided that they will not allow IK back to power( maybe they fear the noose because of what they have done), so who is supposed to talk to. He has offered to forgive his attackers but Arshad Sharifs killers can't be given an NRO otherwise they will continue to kill.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will hold a "historic" rally in Lahore on Wednesday, which will be attended by party chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan.

The announcement comes as Imran Khan has been evading arrest attempts by law enforcing agencies and is facing charges of money laundering and illegally selling gifts received during his tenure as prime minister.

Despite the ongoing legal issues, the PTI leadership remains undeterred and is keen to showcase its strength in Lahore.

Speaking at a press conference, party leader Hammad Azhar said, "When that lion (Imran Khan) will leave Zaman Park on Wednesday, there will be historic scenes in Lahore. Future generations would read and see the pictures and videos of [this event]. They will understand this is how a nation becomes alive."

Hammad went on to say that no one can stop Imran Khan's voice as his voice is Pakistan's voice right now. He also took a swipe at the ruling government, saying that the leaders sitting in Islamabad often forget what the actual temperature of Pakistan is.

"The weather is usually pleasant in Islamabad, so the people sitting on the throne often forget what the actual temperature of Pakistan is," he said.

The PTI had previously suspended its 'Jail Bharo' movement earlier this month following the Supreme Court's ruling in a suo motu notice over delay in the announcement of elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

However, several PTI leaders and workers were still arrested as part of the movement, which sought to mark a protest against the government's policies and to put pressure on the government to announce elections.

It remains to be seen how the government will respond to the PTI's planned rally in Lahore, particularly given Imran Khan's ongoing legal troubles. However, the PTI leadership is clearly determined to show that it still has the support of the people, and that Imran Khan remains a potent force in the country’s political landscape.

A new case has been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and 150 party activists for obstructing Islamabad police in implementing a court’s order against the former prime minister in the Toshakhana case, police said.

The case, which also nominates Imran's chief of staff Senator Shibli Faraz, was registered on Monday at the Race Course police station on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) Nadeem Tahir.

The development comes a day after PTI workers and supporters of the party chairman prevented the Islamabad police from entering his Zaman Park residence in Lahore amid high drama.

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has decided not to appear before Islamabad sessions court tomorrow (Tuesday) in Toshakhana case, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to details, the former premier has decided not to appear before Islamabad sessions court owing to ‘security threats’. Imran Khan took the decision after consulting the legal team.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also decided to challenge non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran Khan – issued last week in the Toshakhana case – in Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The larger issue is that judiciary and establishment dictate everything in this land. If you are on their good books you can destroy the parliament or attack the police but nothing will happen to you. But as IK, NS, Zardari, Bhuttos have discovered, that there is no such thing impunity unless you suck up to the establishment all the time. All your cases can get fast tracked or stalled depending on the context.

Is IK prima facie culpable ? Yes. Is he being targeted because of that ? No.

Culpable of what?

He appeared in court last week. The mafia want him dead, and are creating reasons for this. They have already come close.

They will not kill him anymore, making him a martyr will backfire especially for the establishment. The damage will be irreparable.

The current solution at hand is to jail and silence him indefinitely. In the meanwhile PPP will withdraw support and bring down the incumbent Sharifs. A new 'technocrat' govt. will come into play with Bilawal on top and have the establishment's blessing.

Right now priority no.1 is silencing IK.

Imran Khan skips hearing again in Toshakhana case
Islamabad court had issued Imran Khan’s arrest warrants due to his continuous absence from case hearings

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is yet to appear before an Islamabad sessions court in the Toshakhana case despite a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.

Sardar Masroof Khan, a junior lawyer of Imran Khan, appeared before the court on Tuesday. PML-N leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha and the Election Commission's lawyer Saad Hasan also appeared in court.

Additional sessions judge Zafar Iqbal inquired whether Imran Khan wouldn't appear in court again today. The lawyer said it was not known whether Imran would appear or not and that a senior legal team of the PTI chair would appear before the court at 10am. The court then adjourned the hearing till 10am.

A day earlier, judge Zafar Iqbal had rejected the request of the former prime minister seeking the suspension of the non-bailable arrest warrants in the Toshakhana case.

The court had reserved its verdict first and announced a decision later, after a brief hearing of the case on Monday. The court had issued Imran Khan’s arrest warrants due to his continuous absence from the case hearings. The judge had adjourned the hearing till March 7 (today).

His actions with respect to Toshakhana. And he has admitted it publically. So I will take his word for it.

If IK emerges out of this, he will be the most powerful leader in the history of Pakistan. Although I am not sure whether that would necessarily be a good thing.

IHC MOVED TO QUASH IMRAN KHAN’S NON-BAILABLE ARREST WARRANT

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former prime minister Imran Khan Tuesday moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to quash non-bailable arrest warrants issued in the Toshakhana case, ARY News reported.

On February 28, Additional sessions judge Zafar Iqbal of an Islamabad court issued the former prime minister’s non-bailable arrest warrant over his non-appearance.

The IHC has been pleaded with to hear the bail plea today as the lower court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant.

It may be noted that Imran Khan moved Islamabad’s sessions court for cancellation of his arrest warrant yesterday, but the plea was dismissed by judge Zafar Iqbal.

Additional Session judge Zafar Iqbal announced the verdict he had reserved after a brief hearing of the arguments in the case.

Pakistan's economy is in tatters because Imran Khan stole so many watches lol.

I get the joke but No watches were stolen.

Which part is incorrect in this?

1. Imran bought gifts from Toshakhana and sold it. He made revenue but didn't disclose it to ECP.
2. He resisted disclosing the information to public.
3. He finally admitted that he sold gifts and made money.

Question
Why was he putting so much effort to hide it?

Opinion
It's surprising that a PM would get involved in such dubious activity, legal or illegal, controversial for sure for small amount of money. 30 million is small in comparison to position at stake.

Even if it was not illegal, it looks foolish to be involved in a transaction to make money where he wouldn't to disclosing the information.

It would have still made sense if he had not sold it and refused to give to information about gifts received by him.

Too much hassle for making just 30-35 million rupees. There must be better ways for him to make that much in wiser way.

I am not talking about legal issue or moral issue, rather just common sense issue.

Overall issue indicates lack of common sense, if not confirmed indication of moral or legal wrongdoing.

Stop this nonsense. You are reading too much Noora propaganda. You think they would be going to such lengths if they had a case. The would have arrested him and jailed him long ago. They got the information after it was disclosed by IK. And the give away was the idiot that claimed he brought the stuff and then disappeared when rumbled and is that an inconvenient fact you didn't get from your pathetic research. If the case is so black and white, why not start the trial, what's the wait? So go back to Nanis cell and find some facts.

Overall issue indicates lack of common sense, if not confirmed indication of moral or legal wrongdoing.

Have you heard the main Umar Farooq Zahoor? Please tell us about his allegations and why suddenly he has disappeared as a witness after he was exposed?

Annoyed by their persistent absence, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued bailable arrest warrants for PTI Chairman Imran Khan and senior party leader Fawad Chaudhry in a case pertaining to contempt of the ECP and chief election commissioner (CEC).

Separately, Lahore police registered another case against senior PTI leaders for delivering incendiary speeches and accusing the state of hatching conspiracy to assassinate Imran Khan.

A four-member ECP bench headed by member from Sindh Nisar Durrani noted that the former prime minister was not appearing before the electoral watchdog despite being summoned persistently, which amounts to insulting the commission.

The bench directed the Islamabad police chief to arrest Mr Khan and Fawad Chaudhry and produce them before it the on March 14.

In a scathing statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticised former premier and PTI chief Imran Khan for his non-appearance before the courts. The premier labeled Imran as a "destroyer of the economy" and accused him of conspiring to stop the economic recovery through political instability.

Shehbaz commented on the continuous non-appearance of Imran in the Toshakhana case, saying that he was doing to the courts what he did to national interests, global lenders, friendly countries, the Constitution, parliament, institutions, media, among others. He further stated that Imran was not showing up even when he was summoned by the court.

The premier also accused the deposed prime minister of doing to the court what he did to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. Sharif's government has been alleging that the Imran-led government deviated from the IMF programme's conditions, resulting in its suspension and a severe financial crunch for the country.

Shehbaz maintained that Imran was doing to the court what he did to national interests and friendly countries of Pakistan. He accused Imran of having an inappropriate attitude and approach towards friendly countries and their heads, but did not provide any specific details about his conduct.

Lastly, he accused the PTI chief of doing to the court what he did to the public in the shape of inflation.

The premier's statement comes on the heels of an order by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspending non-bailable arrest warrants against Imran in the Toshakhana case until March 13. The court directed him to appear before the sessions court on March 13, warning that he may be declared an absconder if he does not comply.

The Punjab Home Department on Wednesday banned “all kinds of protests, demonstrations and sit-ins” in Lahore for seven days, citing the “overall security situation” in the wake of recent “wave of terrorism and threat alerts”.

A notification issued by the home ministry said the ban was imposed on “holding all kinds of assemblies, gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, processions, demonstrations, […] protests and such like other activities across the district Lahore to avert any untoward incident”.

The prohibition — imposed under Section 144 (temporary orders in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger) of the Code of Criminal Procedure — is to be in effect immediately.

It is pertinent to mention that the PTI had announced a rally in Lahore today, while an Aurat March is also set to being taken out.

A worker of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been killed in clashes with police in Lahore, the party claimed on Wednesday, as the government imposed Section 144 to ban public gatherings ahead of PTI rally in the provincial capital.

In a message on Twitter, PTI Chairman Imran Khan accused the provincial police of brutality and murdering party worker Ali Bilal in clashes near his residence in Zaman Park.

"Ali Bilal unarmed & our dedicated & passionate PTI worker murdered by Punjab police," the former prime minister said in a tweet.

"Shameful, this brutality on unarmed PTI workers who were coming to attend election rally. Pakistan is in the grip of murderous criminals. We will file cases against IG, CCPO & others for murder," he added.

PTI leaders Farrukh Habib, Azhar Mashwani and Mussarat Cheema reiterated the claims of violence and brutality by the Punjab police on party supporters coming to attend the rally.

"The fascist government has crossed all limits of brutality. An old worker of PTI Ali Bilal was martyred due to police brutality and violence. The imported government has started shedding the blood of [political] workers," Farrukh Habib said in a tweet.

The PTI leaders accused police of torturing its supporters who had come out to protest in the provincial capital. The party further claimed that its 'peaceful' workers were arrested in Lahore soon after reports emerged that the provincial capital had been placed under Section 144, banning public gatherings.

Shortly afterwards, PTI chairman Imran Khan called off the rally alleging that the caretaker admninistration had launched a crackdown on PTI supporters not in the interest of law and order but to avoid elections in Punjab province.

In a video address, Imran told party workers "to return home peacefully" as the government was instigating demonstrators "to resort to chaos, but we will not let them succeed".

Earlier in the day, the Punjab caretaker government said in a notification shared that it has imposed a ban on all kinds of assemblies, gatherings and rallies under "serious security threats" and fears of "disruption of traffic".

It may be noted that the PTI was scheduled to hold a rally today for a power show in the provincial capital.

Furthermore, Aurat March was also scheduled to take place today near Faletti’s hotel after the Lahore High Court (LHC) had ruled that ensuring the safety of the rally's participants was the responsibility of the local administration.

PTI chief and former premier Imran Khan questioned under what law the caretaker government of Punjab imposed the ban considering that "hardly 55 days [are] left" for elections to take place in the province after the dissolution of the provincial assembly.

Imran said that the ban was in "brazen contempt of the [Supreme Court's] SC".

Last week, the apex court had ordered that President Arif Alvi should announce the date of the Punjab Assembly election, while the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) governor would set the election date of the provincial assembly in consultation with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has filed three petitions seeking protective bail in different cases, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

Imran Khan submitted three petitions in the Lahore High Court (LHC), seeking protective bail in different cases.

A Quetta police team has arrived in Lahore to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in compliance with a court order.

According to Geo News, a five-member team led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigations Nadeem had arrived in Lahore to arrest the PTI chief. The team includes Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Sattar, a sub-inspector and two other officers.

They will be assisted by the Lahore police.

A day earlier, a local court in Quetta issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the PTI chief in a case registered against him under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA).

The judicial magistrate issued the arrest warrant and directed authorities to present the former prime minister in court.

A first information report (FIR) was registered at a police station in Quetta against Khan for the comments he made against state institutions and their officers during a speech on Sunday.

Complainant Abdul Khalil Kakar had registered the complaint at the Bijli Road Police Station against the PTI chief. The FIR included Sections 153A, 124A, and 505 of the PPC and Section 20 of PECA.

Kakar had alleged that the PTI chief’s statement was an attempt to destroy public peace and order.

In the speech on Sunday, the PTI chief had come down hard on the “state institutions” after a team of Islamabad police had arrived at his Zaman Park residence to arrest him in the Toshakhana case.

The deposed prime minister — who was ousted from power in April last year — vented his rage while addressing party workers and supporters at Zaman Park residence in Lahore who participated in the "Jail Bharo Tehreek" (voluntary arrest movement).

In his fiery speech, the PTI chairman said that he had neither kneeled before any institution or person nor would let the nation do so.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Friday questioned who was the “most powerful” person in the country, who he claimed was busy bulldozing court orders, sabotaging the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe the attempt on his life, and now trying to cover up party worker Zille Shah’s death.

Calling his political opponents Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif “criminals”, Mr Khan said those imposed on the nation were taking the country towards complete disaster and urged the people to join the ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ movement like a living nation to defeat the anti-Pakistan and anti-people forces.

Flanked by former health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid, the former prime minister expressed deep concern and pain over severe torture unleashed on party worker Ali Bilal, also known as Zille Shah.

Regretting that the incumbent rulers tortured and killed “a special child”, Mr Khan said the PTI would contest this case against the caretaker chief minister, IG Police and CCPO, Lahore, with full force, because it would determine whether the people of Pakistan were living in a jungle or a human society. Mr Khan regretted that the police named him in the case registered over the PTI worker’s killing.

Islamabad Police arrives on helicopter, possible arrest of Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Desperate to put him behind bars, a police party from Islamabad flew by helicopter to Lahore to arrest PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the 'judge threatening case' after a district and sessions court issued his non-bailable arrest warrants for failing to attend the hearing.

Earlier, Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim released the three-page reserved verdict.

Dismissing Khan's petition seeking exemption from attending the hearing of the case in person, the court ordered the police to produce the PTI chief before it by March 29.

Islamabad police team arrives to take Khan in custody as he gears up to spearhead a massive election rally in a show of power with thousands of frenzied workers waiting for him to take the lead in the party's efforts to turn up the heat on the government.

The police say they would need a sizable backup to pick up Khan and take him to Islamabad, according to sources.

The former prime minister, who was deposed in a vote of no-confidence last year, once again skipped the hearing. Instead, he filed a plea for an exemption from physically appearing before the judge, requesting permission for joining the court proceedings virtually via video link.

During the hearing, a lawyer for the PTI chief, Intezar Haider Panjutha, said it was not safe for the 71-year-old politician to come to Islamabad amid security threats against him, adding that they have filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking permission to appear virtually before the courts.

Another member of Khan's legal team, Naeem Haider Panjutha, said a petition has been filed seeking exemption from attendance on behalf of the former prime minister on security grounds.

The lawyer also requested to accept Imran's plea, mentioning "not appearing for some reasons and not willing to appear are two different things."

Earlier, the sessions court had rejected the PTI chief's plea by saying "if Imran did not appear in court today, a non-bailable arrest warrant against him would be issued.

The judge said that if Imran Khan does not appear during court hours today, he would issue a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.

After that, the court briefly adjourned the hearing till 12:30pm and later resumed it.

A case has been registered against the PTI chair at Islamabad's Margalla police station for hurling threatening remarks at judge Zeba Chaudhry.

Why isnt Zardari , Bilawal, those who worked for them and all the PPP criminals free and not behind bars? Why IK when is not a thief like them.?

Because Pakistani's institutions are prone to corruption and can be bought. Those rejoicing in this thread are the beneficiaries of these crooks and are celebrating because they or their close relatives are going to continue looting the depleted country of its remaining resources.

This could be a great day for those who live off the blood, sweat and tears of the poor.

Sounds about right. This is why I dont take any PDM supporter or their party seriously at all.

They are so eager for IK to be not just jailed but killed. But imo one day the real corrupt leaders will face justice with a rope.

Islamabad court suspends Imran’s arrest warrants to March 16 in judge threats case

An Islamabad district and sessions court suspended on Tuesday non-bailable arrest warrants issued for PTI chairman Imran Khan in a case pertaining to threats issued to a judge.

On Monday, Senior Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim issued arrest warrants for Imran while hearing a case registered against the ex-premier for using threatening language against Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and the Islamabad police officials.

In yesterday’s hearing, Imran’s counsel had said that the former prime minister was ready to join the proceedings through video link. However, Judge Rahim rejected the plea and instructed the police to produce Imran in court by March 29.

Subsequently, the PTI challenged the warrants in the district court, which was taken up by the court of ADSJ Faizan Haider Gilani.

In its written order today, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the court said that Imran’s counsel contended that “due to security threat to the life of petitioner, the petitioner could not appear before the learned trial court”.

“In this regard, the security provided by the government has also been withdrawn. Learned counsel for the petitioner sought an adjournment to place on record the letter of the Government of Punjab, whereby, the security provided to the petitioner (former prime minister) was withdrawn,” the court noted.

It said the petitioner’s counsel sought an adjournment to place on record the letter of the Punjab government, whereby, the security provided to Imran was withdrawn. “Let the needful be done,” the ruling said.

It said that the arguments raised by Imran’s petition needed consideration.

“Now to come up for arguments on 16.03.2023. In the meanwhile, operation of the impugned order is hereby suspended till the next date,” the order added.

The ToshaKhana ("TK") fiasco is finally going to be rounded up it seems after the release of the registry (or 80% of the registry excluding judges and generals).

Similarly the case against IK in ToshaKhana will also now die its overdue death. From a legal perspective I wanted to share my thoughts on illegal elements associated with TK cases.

1. First illegal allegation is that IK after retaining the gifts did not disclose these gifts in nomination papers for elections.
The argument IK has made is that given he sold the gifts immediately after retaining them the cash flow from the sale is part of his bank statement and the bank statement is part of his declared assets. Hence the TK gifts that have been sold have their receipts in the bank and further any taxes arising on their respective sales have also been done correctly.
On the flip side now we can see ex PMs retaining luxury cars, watches, jewellery and many ornaments. Its alleged that none of these TK gifts have been part of any elected member's nomination papers. Even the cars taken away were not disclosed. Therefore there is a clear case now waiting to be made by ECP on all elected members failing to disclose these gifts in their papers.

2. Second allegation on IK is that the gifts are given to the state rather than individuals hence IK cannot proceed with the sale of these gifts.
This is a moral argument as in the TK legal document it states nowhere that gifts are for state only and cannot be for individuals. If that was the case then no Govt official would have had the option to buyback the gifts in the first place but since the policy exists this argument holds no weight.
Ex PMs like Khaqqan Abbasi are now coming out stating that gifts were bought by individuals have all the right what to do with the gift post purchasing as its their property now.

3. Lastly there are voices on forum here as well as in political atmosphere that states that IK is a thief because he bought the gift from TK.
This is a moral argument once again. There are laws for TK and if IK has bought gifts within the space of these laws then there is no law breaking. However if gifts are bought outside the stated laws for example law states cars cannot be bought back or non-elected members do not have access to TK then there can be legal proceedings against the culprits.

Bottomline on this topic is that elites in our country which includes elected members, establishment and other people at senior posts have no morals. Unfortunately this is a cultural problem and won't go away anytime soon.

The Islamabad police team reached Lahore to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan after a district and sessions court issued his non-bailable arrest warrants for failing to attend the hearing in Toshakhana reference, ARY News reported.

The court of ADSJ Zafar Iqbal restored non-bailable arrest warrants for Imran in the Toshakhana reference. It instructed the police to arrest the PTI chief and present him in court by March 18.
