What's new

India [187 & 247] defeat South Africa [194 & 177] by 63 runs in the 3rd Test, SA win series 2-1

India always find a way to bottle overseas test if you go by recent history!
Wanderers 2013 , Wellington 2014 , Adelaide 2014,Capetown 2018 and Now maybe this..
the former 3 should have been easily won by india , 2 of them were drawn from highly improbable situation and india bottled the chase in Adelaide after kohli got out...they have been competitive but still only have won 1 match in Aus , Nz , Eng and Sa since 2011 , Pak have 3 in the same time

They still need 133 runs. A quick collapse and India can wrap a much needed Win.
Test of Indian bowlers' character in next session 💪

Great application by Elgar and Amla today. I reckon the Indian bowling has been flat, potentially due to the mindset that the pitch will do all their work for them. Fully deserved result if South Africa keep batting like this nonetheless.

One wkt can still open the flood gates
kohli needs to get bhuvi or bumrah on pandaya is as effective a fast bowler as kohli will be with the bowl on this pitch

Hmm not used to winning test matches regularly outside Asia minus WI plus not having a great pace attack was the reason. This time we do have a good attack so if we lose this match then all credit to RSA.

End conclusion is that India need a different leader. They won't win ahead if the team tactics remains this.

Where are those crybabies now? Loving every bit of this massacre on this so called unplayable and unsuitable pitch.

You should give a call to people who ran away from 15 minutes of crucial play yesterday only to permit usage of heavy roller after hours, congrats to series win, enjoy!!!

Credit to the 2 batsman for good application but as an Indian fan I would really like to know what the feck happened to the pitch, how does a pitch that had crazy movement and uneven bounce suddenly turn into a normal slightly helpful pitch.

MMHS can answer this.He was of the opinion that this pitch will get easier on 3rd and 4th day??

Pandya has been an utterly useless selection in this test match. Kohli and Shastri again missed a trick in selection by not picking a spinner. Much of a muchness about this attack now, Ashwin would have been a nice option for the captain in this situation.

could have scored more as well.

I think there was just one or two dangerous spots on the wickets, maybe the slight rain and heavy roller flattened the deformity. Maybe the Saffers found the dodgy spots, and the Indians couldnot.

Its quite possible the wicket eased up after lunch yesterday and has been doing fine since then. It's just that no one noticed.

Kohi and Shastri tactics are beyond my understandings. They are doing the opposite of what is required.

It's about momentum. RSA was very clever in using their rights. They outplayed india in that aspect. And deserves to be won.

Yesterday, kohli should have made an objection of not going ahead.

He didn't.

Now pay the price.

Not even 1 ball misbehaving.

What happened to this pitch. Looks flat and bowlers deflated.

Congrats SA. Well played. India is no match for them in their own den.

Match can still go either way.

Agree, these kind of targets look easy when you are half way and then suddenly you lose. Having said that another 50 runs and game will be in bag.

SA should win from here. It will be poor performance to lose from here. Pitch has no demons as well.

From online commentary it seems like pitch has started to do something. Indian bowlers should exploit this to the fullest now! Shami is usually useful in such situations!

What an incredible partnership by Elgar and Amla.

Amla scored over a 100 runs in this test, superb batting. At 34 years of age and still the best test batsman from either side.

Amla with that exaggerated trigger movements mastered 2 inngs in this test match

Deserves the man of the match if SA win this

Come on, get one decent partnership here and we will be home.

The longer AB stays the quicker SA taking this to home

If india can get him early their chances are high then

ABD goes. Massive flop in this match. India will be back in the game if they can get another in a couple of overs.

Well if the pitch again starts to do bad, umpires may again offer it to batsmen and South Africa will take that. They will again come fresh tomorrow... (Some more nourishment to the pitch overnight) While Kohli on the other hand went with the aggression yesterday. Perhaps someone like Dhoni would have handled it carefully by opting to go out at some stage. We would have extended the lead maybe!

100 runs left. One big partnership is needed here.

35-40 runs partnership here and the target will look a lot closer.

anything more than 50 and Inida will be having a chance even if it is only 3 down.

Agree, but SA will feel more confident if 30-40 runs are added here without losing any more wickets. With 6-7 wickets in hands, you can hack 50-60 runs despite playing poorly. Trick is to get closer to target without losing more wickets.

I would have liked to see South Africa send in de Kock after Amla finally fell and asked him to get a quick 20-30 runs.

SA are 3 down. 100 runs still required more. A collapse would mean India will win this. This is a fascinating game. Can still go either way.

AB never looked under control in this whole match. He has opened the gate for India.

If he would have stayed for some time would have taken the target to lesser score at a faster rate.

3 good games in a row. Series should have been 4 or 5 tests. Watching Eng play 5 tests in Ind and Aus was mind numbing due to no fight from Eng. It's good that Aus series is not 3 tests.

Not a bad idea given that kid is not scoring runs anyway.

As long as ABD keeps flunking these high profile moments, there’s always room to question his mettle

Series was won due to AB earlier and now the 3rd test, which is a dead rubber, becomes the high profile moment?

He did his part when it mattered and that too twice. What high profile moments- it is a dead rubber.

3-0 won't be a fair reflection of this series tbh if that happens.

This game is important for South Africa. They win this and they go joint #1 in the rankings and also whitewash India for the first time in decades, I believe. For India, it is all about saving some face and getting into the groove for the ODI series.

Every game is important, but runs when series is alive is worth a lot more to me. AB scored and SA won series.

Tell me about it. History will say that Pakistan lost 3-nil in Australia recently but we competed far better than that. Came within 40 runs of winning the first game which is much closer than India in this series.

AB these days is becoming like KPesque(don't know if it is right or wrong). Can win it on his day but leaving huge yards left for others to do when on crisis.

AB and Elgar and Amla and Faf. It was a team effort, this series has not been a one man show from the South Africans.

That first test was because of Shafiq brilliance but overall that series was nowhere close.

This has been a fantastic series. However, Indian team have failed to capitalized on big moments. When the batting clicked for first time, their bowling disappointed. But the game isn't over yet.

Sorry but that's a damn poor analogy Billu. Pakistan were getting smashed at 5 an over and then OZ declared. Pakistan could not take 20 wickets in any test match.

What a Test - I think it might go to even single digit margin, or even tie!!!

FaF should have sent Kok against old ball as ask him to go after.

Exactly a 100 runs to win. 7 wickets in Hand. The Wall ELgar at the crease. Faf just needs to be there, support him as long as he can.

Phehlukwayo is another useless selection

But but.. according to Michael Holding this match should have been abandoned yesterday, what with the number of batsmen sent to hospital with concussions/broken effin arms. The expression 'with friends like these, who needs enemies' comes to mind with such sensationalist commentary from someone who is purportedly a test cricket elitist. Test cricket needs such pitches occasionally to remain relevant in this day and age, the players will just need to adapt.

Ab scored in pressure situations in each of the first 2 tests. He is a human , he can fail.

I disagree about Aus-Pakistan series being competitive.

Pakistan managed to bowl out Aus only one inning in entire series. Aus scored 2K+ runs , 88 runs per wicket. Pakistan got bowled out pretty much every time and scored less than 30 runs per wicket.

One team scoring near 90 runs per wicket and another team scoring near 30 runs per wicket. I won't call it being competitive.

After all the criticism last night Elgar faced, surprisingly he is the one who is seeing of this game.

Going by this logic kohli has done nothing in his career. Choked in high profile finals. Failed in both the tests while chasing. Failed in england. Failed miserably vs aus at home. Failed in wc sf vs pak in 2011.

He is paid to tell something that riles up audience, otherwise Social media money kahan se aaye? Just from his one comment, I can tell that Zukerberg has made several millions - that amount cascades every where down the line.

Some of the Test's played at Mikes home town in 70s & 80s won't have even started by that standard.

I have been severely critical on Kohli for his captaincy but whatever his tactical nous he is a great leader, always gets his team to fight, Dhoni always let things go south without a fight.
