India in a great position to win this Test match.

6 wickets needed by India with Australia requiring 219 runs to win.

India are closing in on a first Test victory in Australia for 10 years after continuing to dominate the opening match of their series in Adelaide.

The tourists added 156 to their overnight 151-3, despite losing their final four wickets for four runs, as they set their hosts 323 to win.

Australia, whose record fourth-innings run chase at Adelaide is 315-6 against England in 1902, ended day four 104-4.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets but Shaun Marsh is 31 not out.

Marsh has spent more than two hours at the crease and negotiated a testing final dozen overs in the company of Adelaide-born Travis Head, who was Australia's top scorer in first innings with 72.

Going into Day 5 it is uncannily similar to the 1999-2000 Australia v Pakistan Test at Hobart.

Australia was 140-5 chasing an improbable 369 to win.

The last remaining specialist batsman were Justin Langer and Adam Gilchrist.

Langer had been a fringe middle-Order batsman for 7 years, unable to cement a place in the team.

Gilchrist was a rookie in his second Test, who was viewed as a One Day Specialist.

After them, the remaining batsmen were hopeless - Warne, McGrath, Fleming and from memory I think Funky Miller rather than Scottie Muller.

And Pakistan had their GOAT attack. Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Mushtaq Ahmed and Waqar Younis, who bowled his last great Test match spells in that match.

But Waqar had twisted his ankle the previous afternoon.

And amazingly Australia managed to score the runs for the loss of only one wicket.

So you mean to say India have no chance?

No, I rate India 99% certain to win today.

It’s impossible to score more than 250 to win at Adelaide.

And Australia’s batting is awful.

If India does not win I’ll eat my hat.

I think both Marsh and Head are going to win this match for Australia ....even if they fail, as Australia bat very deep down, they could still win this with the help of Lyon and starc

India can only beat what Australia put up for them to beat.

It’s a very weak Australian batting line-up, combined with a strong but under-prepared bowling line-up.

I rate the Aussie batting potential as 3/10 while their bowling could be 8/10 but is actually currently functioning at 6/10.

India is batting at 5/10 while their potential is 7/10.

But India is bowling at 6/10 which is the best they are capable of.

So if India keeps playing at this level they will win today, I reckon in mid-afternoon with Australia 245 all out.

Thanks for your valuable assessment.

India deserves this.

There is no reasonable justification for banning the three players from Sandpapergate while exonerating the bowlers who were bowling the tampered balls.

India has batted sensibly and bowled quite well, and they deserve this victory.

Sure, it’s a weakened Aussie team. But an away series victory in Australia is a rare experience, and India need to secure it as quickly as they can and then just enjoy it.

Because believe me, winning a Test series in Australia is worth around ten World Cups!

So bowlers should have been banned as well?

Indian bowlers have out bowled Aussies here , Aussies have bogged down . That has pressurized them in playing false shots . Right now they have played 54 overs , Aussies should have been at 175 by now , despite losing 4 wickets . That is a big difference between previous Aussies side and this one. Runs are critical.

Well, they bowled with the doctored balls.

And the investigation consisted of nothing more than Cricket Australia asking “were you part of it?”, them saying “oh no” and Cricket Australia acquitting them.

This, remember, after Smith had given a press conference saying that he, Warner and Bancroft had discussed ball tampering with the “leadership group”, which everyone took to mean “Hazlewood, Lyon and Starc”. But now we are supposed to forget that Smith ever implicated them.

This is definitely the worst Australian batting line up I've ever seen.

Not a single world class batsmen in the team, freaking Finch is opening :)))

After this win , I think Indian confidence will be really high , India may play 5 bowlers with jadeja as fifth bowler. Aussies have to bring in another plan if they have to make any kind of comeback here

They are bad , but the issue is they have played negative cricket , the amount of overs they batted , they should have got more runs, that has hurt them more

Aus should bring back Smith and Warner, they've suffered enough. It's just sad seeing them lose so many matches.

Australia scoring at 2 runs an over at home :ibutt

Put Smith and Warner in this game and it would look completely different.

Any chance they bring back Smith and Warner after this disastrous Test?

I'm not even Australian and I want them back, I was someone who thought the bans were fair too.

Put a big partnership here. India will feel some pressure with that.

Australia now got a good chance of winning this game. Ashwin is bowling absolutely rubbish on a 5th day pitch. It wont be a drawn test for sure and there will be a result.

In Test Matches you need to be patient . India well ahead , and only Miracle can help Aussies. New ball will be due soon.

My heart says it aint over yet. I have a feeling Starc is going to score a quick fire 40 odd and win it for Australia.

Remember, Tim Paine just saved a test match on 5th day against Pakistan in UAE. So he is well capable of doing it. He has done it against Yasir and co. No reason why he cant against Ashwin.

Also, we Indians are well aware of Kohli's bad luck as a captain.

Seriously, Lyon was on another level yesterday. Except Rahane, everyone else looked like just matter of time before they got out to him.

Lyon bowled well and so is Ashwin. The only difference is that Indian batters gave wickets on a platter in the second half of the innings yesterday. Australian's aren't taking any risks against Ashwin, just trying to defend.

Nah, Lyon was able to hit rough regularly and troubled batsmen regularly.

That's because the rough is on the left side of the pitch and India had lots of right hand batters. Australia's predominantly left hand batters, negate the rough. Once the right handers came in to bat, Ash is hitting the rough consistently. Big difference.

Ahwin is looking a lot less threatening to right hand batsman.

137 to win. Aussies are fighting hard.

40-50 more runs here and Indians can panic. I know it's a long way, but I would like to see this pair adding 40-50 runs. Still India will be on top, but some doubt may start creeping in.

Not today. He looks like picking a wicket with every ball he is bowling this morning to Cummins and Paine. He has been unlucky.

New ball is the key ... my money is on Ishant and Bumrah to do the job.

anyone start getting that sinking feeling?

It's too early, but if this pair adds 40-50 runs then players will starts having that. It will provide fantastic end to this test.

relax man! It's all about 1 good ball. India is 1 wicket away. 137 is a lot of runs.

too many heartbreaks this summer in England.. that 4-1 should've been 3-2 in India's favor if not for our bowler's inability to take lower order wickets.

Bumrah must start after lunch. Terrible decision by kohli to take him off after Marsh wicket

I know the feeling ... if there is a bowling unit that can gift presents nicely wrapped with a bow on top then its the Indian attack. Still 137 is a lot of runs.

English Tail are better with the bat, Aussies Tail no where near that

Curran shouldn't even be counted as a tail ender. He's a decent bat.

England at the moment have luxury of playing 3 spinners plus 3 pacers , at the same time batting right down till number 10 , in OD probably number 11. No team in the world can match that.

There you go Starc...

Bring it below 100 runs..
