What's new

India [269/2] beat England [268] by eight wickets in the first ODI to take 1-0 series lead

If india bats first in next two matches i can see rohit making another double ton on this pitches.

Can't believe comparing Root and Kohli was even a thing. Kohli has an aura that he will score big and strikes fear into the opposition. Even when not fully on song when he's set , you'll back him to score a century. When Root is set and his best you still don't have confidence he will score big.

Kohli is vastly superior and much stronger mentally.

Bowler friendly pitch as ENG strong batting could do only 268 runs

Becomes batting friendly when Indians bat

Big dilemma for Pak fans what to criticize

Try this " England players still mourning soccer World cup loss and not in mood to play cricket so did not give 100% otherwise 400 runs was formality"

Kohli has always been selfless. If somebody is in better touch he would gladly take the passive role.

True. Most other Indian batsmen would have gone berserk chasing that 50, or like it happened in the 2000s, Rohit would have been asked to hold back.

Big difference between both team is kuldeep yadav. England can still bat against our pacers and they have quality batsman for this pitches but they just can't play wrist spin.

India well on course to finish the game within 40 overs , I doubt even 350 would have been enough here for Poms.

Hoping for best top 4 , so CT final like situation doesn't happen again.

That can happen to any team. Unfortunately that is how game is . One bad day and its a knockout game , you cannot help it. But over all India top three is aggressive and also consistent .

With this slow wicket England played right into the hands of India

The best LOI spinner taking 6 wickets doesn't make it slow. This pitch is a proper 450+ run english batta we saw against Australia and Pakistan in the past.

Can't call this wicket exceptionally slow - 350 would have been a par score here considering how small the ground is. It looks slow because India has been batting at a leisurely pace

But honestly the English pitches are utterly rubbish when they don't swing - they offer almost nothing to the bowlers. Nor does England have any exceptional pace or spin bowlers to extract anything out of this wicket.

Even the commentators were saying that 280, 300 would have been a good total becz wicket wasnt fast enough.

The way Rashid got Kohli out you can see the ball stopped a bit .

Indian batsmen are used to playing on such tracks in India so its wasnt something new for them

England needs to produce bowler friendly wickets in next two ODIs to get a chance, fast flat track would be 50-50 but this type of wicket is gonna see them lose again

They have gully mohallah level bowlers, if they produce bowling friendly pitches it will help India even more.

Their best bet is to bat second and outbat India in a batting shoot out.

Yes it was not at all exceptionally slow but England bastmen were really poor. Its like if the wicket is slightly different from their usual pacy or swinging wickets they struggle

India won by 8 wickets

Big strong win by India , Poms have to go to drawing board and look to find alternatives here

Yes if Eng does win the toss they are definitely gonna chase.

India could have easily scored 400+ here batting first. A real eye opener for the English this match.

India matches Poms in there batting , where as in Bowling India far ahead at the moment. Results are showing that.

It looks like Eng cricket team is also shocked by their football world cup exit. :yk2

I wonder how this will impact England psychologically in their preparation for the Test series.

India win by eight wickets to take the series lead and it's been a thumping performance. Once they broke England's opening stand India never looked back. Kuldeep Yadav the man who did most of the damage but India's other bowlers ensured England could never get away from them with the bat. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes managed to build a middle-order platform, but there was no late explosion this time. Then with the bat it was a cakewalk for India, led by another masterful hundred from Rohit Sharma and a lovely innings from Virat Kohli.

The fact that India restricted England to such score without their best death bowlers (B gang) is quite impressive. All kudos to young Kuldeep but, Indian batsmen are playing fluently in this series as well.

When you think India has no bhuvi bumrah shami this is a convincing win. In CT India gambled by playing completely washed out Ashwin. Lost to two sub content teams. This line up is far better. India’s only problem is middle and lower order batting

What is he saying?

India have really put down a marker. As a Pakistani fan I only hope that they've peaked as they look better in every way since the CT.

They've added a 4th match winner in Rahul to make it a top 4.
Replaced their test spinners with two absolute world beaters (especially Kuldeep)
Their fast bowling was impressive in SA, and Bumrah seems to have improved.

Only question mark is the lower middle order. If Kartik or Raina play to their best, they're all set to dominate white-ball cricket for a while. No real weaknesses apart from not having a 6th bowling option. Pandya really lends them balance that way by bowling his quota out.

I literally feel we're the only side that can challenge them right now. We might lose to New Zealand and England but we'll put a much better fight up against India.

Hahaha. Sometimes one liners make you laugh more than anything. Even Haathi-Chinti or Santa-Banta jokes :D

Now that's how you Win against a World No#1 ODI Team like a Boss! Total domination and a team full of Matchwinners! A tight slap to all those people who stated this English Batsmen are dangerous and it's difficult win against them in England. India is showing how it's done effortlessly. Go India Go! Continue your domination in World Cricket! Congratulations!!!!

India have been spanking England lol it seems.

for some reason i dont have that much interest in cricket anymore though. Havent watched either the t20 series or this one. Heck even the Pak t20 tri series.

hopefully by the time tests roll around the cricket love is reignited

India continues to prove why they are the best ODI team in the world by some distance. They have all the basis covered and will win a series against any team in any conditions.

It was laughable to see some of our Indo-phobic friends dismiss India's chances in this series because of England's powerful batting lineup.

But didn’t you say this series would be one of the best since England and India are the two best teams in the world? :13:

Seems like a one sided series to me...

Say what you may ..... but the Indians have a terrific ODI side !!!! A 5 Match Series between US and Them would do wonder for the game of Cricket to be played at a neutral venue !!! Absolutely can’t wait for it to happen. We may just come out ahead in the end .... but a reversal will not be a surprise or a set back !!!
Cricket Gods ..... make it happen !!!!!

Asia cup is coming up in couple of months...no excuses are allowed then..

Clearly, the Indian team is doing a few things right and its showing. However, I can assure you that things can still get better for the Indian team.
To begin with, we have the young guns from the U19 and IPL who are pure class batting wise and can any day topple Raina's position in the team and maybe Shikhar Dhawan's. Dhoni doesn't deserve a place in the team but I guess he is going to be there.
Bowling wise, we still have more than a few genuine quicks and a couple of left armers who are capable of bowling in excess of 90mph consistently.
The inclusion of these players will only make the team stronger.

Only NZ and Pakistan can beat India.

Can't see New Zealand beat India on those flat tracks however. Pakistan I can, thought I'd guess that a 5 match series would go 3-2 to India as they're more settled as a side.

Dhawan is a gun-batsman and so was Raina in his prime. I would take Dhawan in a heart-beat. Indian fans have short memories considering the guy scored 2 centuries in SA if I remember right.

No chance in this hot weather.

India have to play this lad Kuldeep in the tests because Root can’t pick him, Bairstow can’t pick him, only Buttler can at the moment.
