What's new

India (317/5) beat England (251) by 66 runs to win first ODI at Pune

A couple of injury updates from the BCCI:
- Shreyas Iyer subluxated his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans and won't take any further part in the game.
- Rohit Sharma was hit on the right elbow while batting and felt some pain later. He won't take the field.

England steadily messing up another run chase. They have become much too reliant on Roy and Bairstow in both ODIs and T20s. The rest of the batting isn’t offering much.

Absence of Joe Root is a massive hole.

Roy and Buttler in T20s..

Joe root the accumulator is vital to this team's combination. All they needed to do is rotate stirke after such a great opening partnership.

Just like Ajit Agarkar :inti

Yes that’s actually a pretty good comparison. While Ajit had a pretty long ODI career and had a decent record too, he was never someone people expected of to take so many wickets but he kept on delivering more often than not.

Shardul Thakur what a Massive improvement he has shown in last 4 Months as Cricketer with both ball and Bat.

:salute

Absence of Joe Root is a massive hole.

It is indeed. Nobody there to drop anchor. He would have been absolutely perfect to come in at first drop today and keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Absence of Joe Root is a massive hole.

Eng could have selected Dawid Malan in the ODI squad in the absence of Root to do that role of consolidator. Stokes has the technique but, has no experience of batting in those numbers and trying to anchor the innings.

Jasprit and the two Mohammads should be India's first choice pace attack. Ishant took 70 matches to become a decent bowler, Thakur is a portly trundler, Kumar has always been a defensive bowler and the rest are not worth mentioning.

The disrespekt Palghar express gets here is unbelievable.

I bet the likes of Naseem Shah, Hasnain and Musa have posters of Thakur in their bedrooms!

Imagine the bhangra by the usual suspects if Rohit’s captaincy had sparked this collapse. Now that Kohli is leading the team, not a word of praise.

They are now itching to see England win from here so that they can blame Kohli’s tactics and rotation of bowlers.

Yes, bad call by Morgan.

Malan is a like-for-like replace for Root in LOIs and must play in ODIs when Root is unavailable.

Thakur's first spell, 22 runs in 2 overs.
Second spell: 3/15 in 4 overs.

Krunal Pandya's 26-ball 50 is the fastest half-century ever by a debutant in ODI cricket. Pandya reached the milestone with a single off Tom Curran. He overtook John Morris (35 balls) of New Zealand, who set the record against England in 1990. It is also the fastest ODI fifty by an Indian since 2012.

Yeah, that was a blunder despite the fast start, wasted a wicket there.

Man our domestic cricket is really improving

When the grassroots structure get stronger the domestic cricket naturally starts to improve as well. With IPL and money flowing in the right direction it was destined to happen as the interest of cricket in India was always huge and now that interest has been monetized and invested decently which is allowing more kids to opt for cricket creating competition in the grassroots level and in turn domestic level as well.

Ease up sometimes, bro. Enjoy the game. Why do you occupy your mind with these already-discussed-to-death arguments all the time? Give it a rest.

Yeah.. this point about T20 leagues I keep bringing in all threads.. how it’s a necessity esp for South Asia..

Is this Thakur guy the real deal or is just riding his luck? From what little I've seen of him, he looked quite ordinary - but he's been racking up good numbers.

Less than 6 RPO required by England, easy peasy for England.

Butler one was umpires call could have gone either way, but as they say if you do not put the ball in the right areas then yu wont get the results. Looks like england under estimated him.

He was bowling faster today , not sure how?

The fact that india have come to almost a winning position after eng were 130-0 in 14 overs shows how brilliant india is as a team.

Another Indian debutant taking to international cricket like a fish to the sea. :rabada2

If England lose this match it will be a massive bottle job. They were half way to the target for two wickets down and miles ahead of the RRR. This has been a disgraceful surrender from the middle order so far.

It's a myth that shardul is a trundler.
He averages between 136-140 and swings it.
Even during later spells during Brisbane test.
Don't let looks deceive you. He is not a 120kph trundler as is being out

Terrible shot selection and game awareness. Hard to believe a top team can play like this.

England missed Root big time tonight. He's the perfect guy to come out after 130/0 in 14 overs chasing 317.

India is a powerhouse team , they can come back in the game any time , very talented players with exceptional bench strength

A lot of ageism fueled propaganda against Dhawan but he continues to prove his destractors wrong. Clearly still the best ODI opener in Asia after the great Rohit Sharma.

High time india moved on from these guys

Their style of batting is outdated Hogging and wasting deliveries uptop

As bairstow n roy have shown this there is a more effevtive way to bat In most cases its a match losing effort

They are 34 and 35 Time india started planning for the next world cup by playing players who can meet the modern demands of limited overs cricket and not bat like its test cricket for the first 10 overz costing india gamez

England will win if they bat the overs, but they have thrown away so many wickets already. I think India are favourites here.

The problem is not ability, Sharma especially has power hitting skills of a demigod.
This mentality that lower order players need to bat at high str rate while top order comfortably stat pads needs to change.
The problem is approach, with Dhawan we can say that yeah he isn't that much of a hitter.
Shaw and Sharma should be our openers and both should be on attack mode from ball one

But Sharma always takes some time before he starts hitting

Those who thought Moeen Ali would take it home from here would not have followed RCB Cricket...!

no other team has this kind of batting depth....insane...England's current LOI team is GOAT

England has a deep batting , but the issue is that because of this the middle order has become complacent and they play too many extravagant shots as a result keep loosing wickets

Ishant Sharma is certainly a superior pace bowler in SENA conditions to Shami. India should only play Shami at home
