India end Day 3 of the 4th Test against England on 40/0, needing another 152 more to win the series

Had a slight feeling that this would happen yesterday.

If Sharma hits a quick 30 then its game over.

Great comeback from India.
 
Ashwin gets the 5-fer

Great bowling but this wasn't a 150 wicket. It's going to be hell of a fourth innings.
 
I felt Eng missed a trick here, they should have declared with about 20 overs to have a go at Indians, could have had Indians easily 4 or 5 down with ENG wrapping up the test match tomorrow.

This Foakes/Bashir partnership was an absolute waste for around 9 runs, 25 odd overs..

Feels like we've got the succession sewed up as well in Axar and Kuldeep. We should get 6 to 7 years out of them.
 
How many over today to face for us? Ain't going to be easy against Jim grump and co...hope we come out of today unscathed.
 
Root's taking the new ball? Justified I guess but sad. Jadeja and Ashwin took it for India and what a difference that is in quality.

It's not going to easy chase as india chased 150+ score from long time only once and that was pant special at gabba .
 
India have decidedly come out to be positive. Look for the singles and bad balls. Absolutely the right strategy on a pitch like this with the hard ball
 
India cruising...Rohit has no apparent weakness in his technique. I have rarely seen him getting troubled by many bowlers. The only thing he lacks is brain cell and mostly gets out trying to play poor shots aka WC final shot.

For me Leach is still the best spinning option. A spinner with no control cannot play bar these dust bowls.
 
One more over .and this will be last over. I still think anderson was best choice for breakthrough but stokes has other plan
 
The amazing thing about this half hour of play is that we've more or less wiped out England's first innings lead without losing a wicket. Now we just have to match England's poor second innings to win.

What a find Jaiswal's been though.
 
Abysmal England performance today led by their bazzy skipper.

India have annihilated their opponents without breaking sweat.
 
Game set and match India.

When the crunch time came they really stepped up and showed their class.

Yes Jurel was brilliant but it was stokes pathetic captaincy otherwise England would have taken 140+ 1st innings lead .
Even today when India start the chase match was 50-50 but his negative captaincy bring india favourite here. 2 wickets today would have made them favourite.
 
Setting aside the Pakistan posters who obviously wanted India to lose, it's been so funny to watch some of the panic stricken Indian posters.

10+ years of unprecedented dominance and two WTC finals should've taught them by now to trust our boys... especially at home but they just won't learn.

Rohit's pathetic captaincy outdid Stokes. He hardly used Kuldeep. India should have crushed ENgland in the first innings with right bowling changes.
 
A rollercoaster day of Test cricket has gone from England in a superb position to India being in the driving seat.

Is there any hope for England to save the series?

Are you saying Ashwin and co are great on flat pitches? Or ENG don't enjoy batting on flat pitches? Or was Jurel playing on a minefield?

Maybe you feel the pitch was changing its color faster than a chameleon?

Dhruv Jurel what an awesome effort, deserved a 100, well done to Kulli and Akash as well....Eng have surely thrown away a chance - you don't win too many if you get dismissed for under 150 , but what stood our was our spirit, our will to fight agaist adversity, Kulli , akash and Dhruv - fantastic effort.
It aint over yet, I'd back Eng to make us sweat bricks, good start though by our guys
 
This doesn’t change how horrible India have been against club bowlers but enjoy this for now against England C :yk2

England's hopes of forcing a series decider faded dramatically in the face of a stirring India fightback on day three of the fourth Test in Ranchi.

With dogged lower-order resistance and spin bowling of the highest quality, India turned the match on its head. From beginning Sunday 134 behind with only three first-innings wickets in hand, the hosts ended 40-0 in pursuit of 192 to take an unassailable 3-1 lead.

They were dragged to 307 by Dhruv Jurel's 90. The wicketkeeper, crucially dropped on 59 by Ollie Robinson, added 76 with Kuldeep Yadav and another 40 with number 10 Akash Deep.

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir ended with 5-119, at 20 years and 135 days the second-youngest England bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

England's lead was a precious 46, every run of which seemed vital as India's spinners conjured tricks from the surface on a riveting, tension-filled afternoon.

Zak Crawley's attractive 60 and Jonny Bairstow's counter-punching 30 were invaluable. No-one else passed 17 in England's 145, Ravichandran Ashwin magnificent for 5-51 and Kuldeep unerring in his 4-22.

India were given 25 minutes to bat before the close and used them to great effect, scoring at five an over. Captain Rohit Sharma has 24 and Yashasvi Jaiswal 16.

Somehow, England need an instant rally on the fourth morning to keep the series alive.

england are really missing harry brook and jack leach.

stokes should go for the bumper barrage tactic, it should effective on this pitch with variable bounce.

England only has club level bowlers if that's the case.

When you only have vanilla midget cricketers only in your domestic talent pool , you try to get them over no matter what.
 
No visiting team has ever successfully defended a sub 200 4th innings total in India

Another slight advantage for India is that not only did they get the choice of roller in between innings but they also get to use it tomorrow morning after just 8 overs of batting.

Harry Brook's game against spin on turning wicket was suspect. He was exposed even in the IPL. He would have struggled for sure. Indian spin attack is not exactly in top form. Still they are more than a handful.
 
Dhruv Jurel's knock was the game changer for India. Jadeja, Ashwin and Kuldeep all three have picked 5-6 wickets in this match but Jurel's batting and keeping was the standout from this test.
 
Superb day of Test cricket — the game totally changed and now India are in the box seat.
A real performance of character from India, as the game could have got away from them, but they were prepared to grit it out and then attack with the ball.
Its India’s to lose (and it won’t be a “fifth” day wicket)

That’s exactly it. 190 on this pitch wasn’t enough to be safe, but it would still be defendable with a world class attack. England don’t have that. They needed 260 minimum to really pose a challenge.

Unless there is some kind of dramatic pitch implosion tomorrow morning and England get a lot of luck, then this one is another win for India.
 
India may well go on to win the test and series. But there are glaring issues in the Indian batting, this England attack has to be one of the worst I've seen, yet they have constantly had India in real trouble

His worst day as captain. In morning session and final half an hour he made poor decisions and totally blew it. Has been stinking up the joint with the bat for a while as well. He’s got some questions to answer after this series.

India is playing without Kohli, KL Rahul, Pujara, Rahane, Shreyas and the batting line up is very inexperienced. Rohit Sharma is the most experienced batsman and he himself only has 57 tests. The team includes youngsters like Jaiswal & Gill and debutants like Sarfaraz, Jurel and Patidar. They are doing really well to compete against a team with experienced players like Anderson, Root, Bairstow, Stokes et all.

Yashaswi also scored both the double centuries on a flat pitches.
This pitch has doesn't have any demons as we saw with kuldeep who faced 100+ balls without any trouble.
It's just bumrah's brilliance who actually made this series a contest.

Stokes is as usual doing his “look at me” captaincy calls.Why would he not open with Anderson is only Stokes would understand.

I hope the names you mentioned (minus Kohli) always stay away from the team. They have been great (especially Pujara) of the team, but their time is over.

I actually thought it was a mistake not to recall one of Rahane or Pujara to give some ballast to the middle order once Kohli and Rahul couldn't play but it's turned out well. Sarfaraz has shown up, Jurel has emerged and we more or less know that Patidar probably doesn't have what it takes.

If we win tomorrow and take the series, it could be a seminal change of guard type occasion

In batting, we could've started finding the next generation in Jaiswal & Sarfaraz.
We would've established a clear backup to Pant in Jurel.
Kuldeep and Axar are ready to take on greater spinning responsibilities and they have both demonstrated all-round capabilities (surprisingly so in Kuldeep's case)
Siraj and hopefully Akash Deep can build a partnership with Bumrah to complete the takeover from our awesome pace trio of Shami-Umesh-Ishant who have played such a key role in our success over the last 10 years.

Good stat but not useful one. Kulya is a blocky blockson. Control is easier when you deadbat 95% of your balls and have little intention of scoring.

Fantastic inning by him today though.

India don't hv kohli, shami, pant, KL & bumrah. This is Ind C team with 3 debutants and 2 rookies.

The pitch had long periods of being very flat and other periods of being very lively. This is obvious by the fact that in the first two innings both of the middle orders collapsed while tailenders like Ollie Robinson and Kuldeep Yadav got to pile on the runs.

India’s advantage is obviously that Kuldeep Yadav + Jadeja + Ashwin are 100x better of a spin attack than Hartley, Bashir, and Joe Root and they can obviously exploit home conditions much more than England’s spin attack. Kuldeep Yadav and Ashwin bowled great to put India in a match winning situation.

For India this is a transition period. Few flunked. Few have stepped up. INdia has to accept a few losses along the way.

The pitch has changed dramatically across days. The first day of the match the ball was seaming and spinning everywhere for the first hour and then it went so flat that your bowlers were getting hammered by Ollie Robinson. During the second day, your middle order got demolished but England could not even get Kuldeep Yadav out.

Today the pitch actually broke down later in the day but Ashwin + Jadeja + Yadav are obviously way better than Bashir, Hartley, and Root to take advantage of that.

If you look at the stat Ashwin turned the ball the least among all bowlers from both sides in the 2nd innings. He didn't try to turn even one ball. He just changes grip when he bowls new ball and under cuts. None of the Ashwin's ball was scooting or turning big or even bouncing. He simply beat them in flight. Not a single wicket from Ashwin has anything to do with pitch. JUst that ENglish batsmen when they can't sweep, reverse sweep don't have many answer. Yadav ofcourse turns the ball anywhere being a wristie. He was grossly under-utilized in the first innings. Otherwise he would have done more damage when India allowed the game to drift.
