What's new

India v England | 3rd Test | Mohali | Nov 26-30, 2016 | Day 1

Stokes,Butler,Woakes,Bairstow their batting just doesn't get over.

Eng lost 3 wickets due to poor batting. Only Umesh Yadav's ball was too much to handle. Kind of wasted the toss here, still Eng can score big runs here. Pitch is very good to bat.

Self-destruction by England today. India getting lucky.

Agreed. Poor shots from Root and Moeen. Cook deserved to be out lot early so it evened out.

Pacers deserved more wickets, bowled in the right channels @ 87-90 MPH consistently.

How many catches have been dropped when Shami and Yadav bowled? Is it less or more than Amir? Some one should open thread withh hypothetical average if all catches were taken, lol.

Going by the amount of chances created by pacers, I don't think this Test will go to 5th day - if ENG is to compete, they'll need to score 300 in 1st innings, don't think they are going to make more than 200 on Day 3/4 wicket.

Mohali & Eden are probably 2 fastest out fields in world; Fatullah as well.

All 5 bowlers getting 1 each, which indicates poor batting, rather than wicket.

Stokes unhappy with :kohli after that dismissal.

145/5. 2 more wickets before tea is a must as Buttler and Bairstow bat at a good SR.

Not watching. Is it a rank turner or just bad batting by England?

Except Hameed ,terrible batting esp Cook dropped twice and still gave it away,Root played a bad shot as well. Bairstow has been steady although dropped once as well.

Root played a shot to 5th bowler after slogging for 12 balls, for which a No. 3 should carry drinks in next match. Others were actually well worked out - Moeen, Stokes, Cook. Hameed was unlucky.

almost 9 already in these tests

Buttler's highest score in U.A.E is 23, he won't last long.

Butler is playing well actually, better than JB. He is so destructive that a set Josh can add 100+ for last 3/4 wickets. It took England 5 Tests, but against teams with best bowler being offie, Butler should have played from Dhaka Test (I give Chittagong as Miraj wasn't known then).

I enjoy watching Butler bat in ODIs, In Test I only tune in to watch De Kock bat.

Game probably again at balance - if one of this pair can end the day unbeaten, with not more than 7 down, Poms will be in dominating position.

This pitch will get progressively difficult to bat on.

England will hold the aces if they get to 350. That miss by Parthiv of YJB is going to be costly.

A little disappointing captaincy from Kohli..

Should have used Ashwin more vs Butler and Bairstow..

Butler didn't faced much of Ashwin in his first 20-25 balls and then Ashwin was taken out of attack. Ash also got Bairstow nicked once by Parthiv who dropped it.

England on top here I think. Mohali is not one of those grounds where 550 plays 500. If we can get 350 in this dig, honestly with India batting last I think we will have a great chance of levelling up.

Also, I think, Batty will give Cook better control of run drain & Jimmi wasn't there in 1st Test. But ENG'll need to catch far better than the hosts.

People over hypes Root, but I am really impressed by JB - it's like Kohli-Rahne story.

What is the pitch like? And what you guys reckon is a par 1st innings total? can't watch the game yet

Except in England, Kohli has dominated and outformed Rahane in every series. Kohli wasn't even rated highly by Indian fans before this series. That double hundred against NZ Kickstarted his golden run in tests. That innings was very unkohliesque with lots of patience.

Slightly India's day imo,but getting the tail out tomorrow would make sure it was ours anything above 300 will keep the tides in balance.

Kohli is a better batsmen than Rahane and Root will prove to be better than Bairstow. Bairstow is getting plenty of credit on this forum and by other pundits so not sure what your on about.

2nd day is usually the best in Mohali with pitch settling in

Good comeback in the last session, just 66 runs and 3 wickets :)

Ball might do a bit in the morning, we need to wrap it up fast and put 400 on board.

Its perfect for India. Mohali first hour there is always something for bowlers, after that it becomes easier. Only thing is Indians should bat well (2 full days preferably). Otherwise batting longer in 4th innings is going to be extremely tough (even saving/drawing a test match would be difficult for this batting line up which is not yet a settled one!)

Not slightly. It's India's day by some distance. Good batting conditions. Nothing for bowlers apart from some swing for pacers early in the match. I would have taken anything less than 400. Fortunately, we are restricting for much less than that.
