What's new

India vs England | 1st Test | Ahmedabad | 18/11/12 | Day 4

But he chucks according to some know-it-alls :bedi

According to Bedi, everyone throws except for himself and his co-spinners. Old geezer needs to find a better way to spend his retirement than appearing on the TV and annoying the hell out of audiences.

Some bitter anti English posters were saying Smith > Cook.

This settles it, the ugliest batsman of all time averages mid 30s in India with a paltry highest score of 73.

Still think we might lose it today. At least it would give us all a lie in tomorrow.

My earlier worries of Cook making a big score against us is coming true(I hope he does not go beyond 150). He is going to be thorn in our flesh in this entire series.

MSD need to make full use of Zak's experience in getting Lefties out, starting with him would be ideal post tea break.

To be fair McGrath would have a task getting Cook out in this mode. Have to wait for the unlikely magic ball/mistake or he just does not get out. Not seen him look so relaxed since the Ashes. Just try and get the others out instead, they're rubbish.

Not too sure about that one. Sure would have been a great battle. Cook's concentration vs McGrath;s relentless plugging away near the off stump. Here's their meeting. McGrath wins here

Yer McGrath owned him back in the day, but Cook is about ten times the player since 2010, so it would be a corker now.

Pakistani bowlers bowled pretty well to him in england and then spinners did well against him in UAE. A wonderful defence though.

If england somehow manage to not lose any more wickets today , things will become interesting.

Well, they would be ahead on the last day, but it would take a double ton from Cook and a ton from Prior, and then runs from the bowlers, and even then Sehwag would chase a small target down.

But they could still lose it tonight. One more wicket and the hutch door is open.

Even if we set them a target of 150 India would chase it in one session ha, given our catastrophic bowling selection and generally poor form. Game's gone.

I thought Prior looked pretty good in the first innings. He got out because it was the last wicket. If he had stuck in since Swann is a decent bat, they could have added a few runs and more importantly frustrated India.

Agree, but would be a honourable ending to the test.

The Yuvi's bowling looks to have gone downhill sadly.

21 runs boys, then at the very least done more than India in England.

Well done our all-rounder Matty! He continues to show most of the top order up.

Surely he must bat at #6 at Kolkata.

Cook is really turning the heat on here. He knows the bowlers are tired and he is cashing in. Brilliant batting.

150!

Well done.

And ha, pointing out no sixes. The man has 7 in the entirety of his Test career.

Great effort Cooky!

Like a WW2 pilot fighting to bring his crippled bomber home....

We need to start batting like this in first innings' to compete in the subcontinent.

Prior 51* (115). Really buckling down and walking the walk. Brilliant little knock.

Should have been run-out with a decent throw really. That would have been a joke way to lose a wicket.

Wife's delivery.

Interesting to think about the impending India innings. Gambhir won't bat for starters. Will Sach open?

:sachin opening in tests? :))) You gotta be kidding. He never bats at any other spot than no.4 not even when Dravid was opening, Laxman was struggling for form. He didnt even bat at 3. No chance of opening. Expect :kohli to come in at no.3.

first ball goes for :four :))) :))) must be thinking am I the only bowler in Indian team?:)))

India starting to bowl some gash now. England need to stick in there and avoid the mistakes.

Deficit is just 28 runs now

Bowlers looks tired and pitch is lsowly becoming more n more flat as the day passes.

Not very good signs for MSD n the Team.

I have been enjoying today. Absolute grit. Still fairly hopeless, but small pleasures

Poor from MSD. Needs to show more imagination, just going through the motion complacently.

Thus far, Indian Bowlers have bowled 185 overs (combined 1st and 2nd Innings) against England's 160 overs.

Ashwin 62 Overs

Ojha 58 overs

Yeah its good to see some fight from England finally. Only if we dint had that one really mad session in the 3rd day morning, we might have been on course to draw this match atleast.

A bit more resistance from Trott and Pietersen and England would have been in a fantastic position to save the match

34 overs left in the day, if this pair sticks till stumps, I think England are in with a great shout of saving the test although on a day 5 pitch, they would be one Ojha/Ashwin spell away from crumbling.

Didn't I tell you? :hamster:

oh thats sad.Pujara should open now.Kohli at 3

Why? Shouldnt :sachin move up a spot as well. This spot hogging is something is something I dont like.

Pujara at open and :kohli at 3 is what I would like to see in the future Indian lineup. Time to play the best players upfront rather than hiding them in the middle where its just oh so darn cosy

Get a lead of around 10 today which means scoring 27/0 in the last 13 overs and get ready for a tuk tuk crusade tomorrow.

If Cook can bat out tomorrow as well, England will definitely draw this match.

Rahane > Pujara > Kohli in tests.

Yes Rahane hasn't played one yet but look at his FC record.

Good comeback by England.. but only option is draw for them.....

Bluddy hell, if you'd offered that at any point over the last week we would have bitten your hand off. England's best chance was always to get a look at India, build some form and draw this one, then make inroads later on.

We are still favourites to lose here though. Lols I guess Uncle Aleem just kept us in it there, makes up for the Fatel dismissal. He always redresses the balance

Another way to look at it would be if Cook gets a double and Prior a hundred.

It would pretty much ensure safety.
