9 overs, 10 runs, 2 wickets. Batting is tough out there for sure. :murali :warne

You people wanted to see bowlers pitch. This is what it is. Am not liking it.

Cricinfo: The last time India were bowled out on the first day of a home Test was back in 2008 against the same SA team in Ahmedabad for 76 runs.

Watching an India team without Dhoni still look strange to me even though Kohli is the captain from last 5/6 Tests.

SA batting does not appear deep - if they get Amla soon SA will be in deep trouble.

looks like this game will be over in 3 days, guess this is what happens when you produce a day 5 pitch to start a game with.

Lool no thanks. Yasir will eat us alive here.

Ditto Ashwin with our bats. Would be a great battle. Better than the lifeless roads we've normally played Test Cricket on. Best tests we've played were in 1999 those 3 tests in India all on result oriented wickets.

Indian might as well have just picked 5 spinners for the game, having medium pacers is a token gesture!

By the looks of it anything under a 100 run lead and we're in deep doo doo. Damn our batting looks thin without JP

Not enjoying this. too much action for the spinners on the 1st day. Would have preferred a traditional pitch which spins big 3rd day onwards

Dean Elgar with 4 wickets, who'd have predicted that yesterday. Indian batsmen not playing spin as they used to though this pitch seems a real turner.

Damn. Could have got more after 10-2 if we had not messed up with the bowling changes.

Even stevens day I would say.

I wouldn't be too harsh on the bowling changes. Apparently Amla had some short ball troubles which they wanted to exploit.

I do have concerns about the selection of both Umesh and Aaron. I think the captain and coach knew that the pace bowlers wouldn't have much of a part to play in this match, then instead of selecting both Umesh and Aaron, why didn't they select someone who could swing the ball early on. Some one like Bhuvi for instance.

8.2 overs....10-2.

Ashwin was taken off after getting a wicket.

Imagine Ashwin and Jaddu against this Elgar guy. Do you think he would have survived with so much pressure of ball going out and coming in?

Unnecessary changes unless Ashwin has injury issues.

Even Amla was trying a lot as capatin (some were god changes...some were unnecessary). If Jaddu had survived, people would have criticized him for not bowling Elgar more.

They went with Aaron and Umesh as they expect them to generate reverse swing on this rough surface.

Pretty substandard wicket but but box standard of what you expect to get in India, should make the rest of the game a low scoring but exciting one.
