Ireland vs Pakistan | Only Test | Dublin | May 11-15, 2018 | Day 2 | Match Thread

Sometimes we must look past stats; Does Fawad look like someone who can stand up to top bowlers and look them in the eye?

Younis Khan would never had debuted in Test cricket if that is your Criteria. Test matches are won via hard work and grit which Fawad has been doing for a decade without fail!!

Yes that is a good quality of Fawad but doing it in these conditions is a different matter.

Ireland needs to get them out for under 300 and they will have a real chance! The pitch is about as flat as a first-day pitch can be given all the rain etc.

Different matter?? Grit, determination and hard work isn't something you'll lose if you play under foreign conditions mate it is part of one's character as an individual.

The technique and the looking good part however gets a severe examination and players who have that minus the former will always come short

You can have all the grit, determination you want but if you lack the ability you can’t use it.

I'll just say Younis Khan has 10k runs and Misbah took Pakistan to #1 test ranking, if ability was everything Azhar wouldn't have become a test match opener with a 300+ high score as he originally was a leg spinning tail ender.

Sorry to say your argument holds zero weightage.

Shadab and Fahim looking good at 7 and 8. Problem is that whole Pak middle order seems to be batting one position too high and frankly Sarfaraz is not good enough to be in top 6. Really cannot see them pulling off 5 bowler team against England.

Would like to see Fakhar open inns followed by Azhar+Haris+Shafiq middle order.
Babar can be given rope to learn Test batting at 6 with Sarfaraz and Shadab at 7 and 8.

Pakistan 236
Ireland 88
Pakistan 278/2
Ireland 146

Pakistan beat Ireland by 426 runs.

Player of the match- Asad Shafiq for his 62 &113*.

No bro - unless you think the likes of Fawad Alam, Aizaz Cheema and Iftikhar Ahmed should be in the team because they are top F.C. performers....

Aizaz Cheema was robbed off a place in the mid to late 2000s due to Inzy's phobia of selecting young and uncapped players. He had the skills at his peak was bowling 145 clicks.

Iftikhar Ahmed on the other hand looks like one of those uncles you see in the park and tell's everyone he's 26 when he's more like 46.

Good cameos from Shadab and Fahim

Can easily replace a potentially 40 averaging batsman if they consistently score 20 runs each.

ahmedwaqas92 That was a nice little bullying sesh maybe we shouldn't have gone so hard. :afaq

Guys relax. Its not easy pitch to bat on. Any Asian team would struggle in early summer season as the bowl moves around alot. Whether it Ireland 🇮🇪 or If it was England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. We are likely to struggle in these conditions. But I think we will be fine against Irl and probably will win. But Against 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 hmm we need good start and imam and azhar cant give that to us, we need fakhar opening with imam and azhar at 3

You can thank the UAE for that (#1 ranking).

Azhar worked really hard on his game, which is not my point.

Damn good stuff from Ireland. Poor from Pakistan batsmen. Need lower order to score a bit more. Real talk we gotta get this dub otherwise England'll beat us.

People just bring any random logic to defend their argument don't they..........

Yes we chased 373 against SL in UAE didn't we?? and also Oval and Lord's became part of the Middle East as well I guess

Fawad is definitely needed in the UAE. Not overseas.

So people who can't help us win the UAE (as Fawad is needed there), the young talented 'superstars' i.e. should be trusted with enabling us to overhaul gun teams in their own back yard.........

:14: :14: :14:

Wait so is this a green pitch or nah? Or our batsman just dead garbage?

A bit of both.

Swing/seam on offer, but also batsmen are not equipped with the ability to play the moving ball.

South Africa series will be a monumental disaster.

6 down below 200!!!!! Sarfraz must be playing a Captain's knock to pull the struggling cart........

Whatever, I’m glad that Mickey etc aren’t spreadsheet warriors.

What you reckon is a good score?
Ireland will also bat last.

May be 170 - don't expect IRL to bat against PAK attack for more than 2 sessions on last day. There is a little spongy bounce; with sun if it hardens a bit they'll struggle against Shadab. PAK's 1st innings is always like this - ruk ruk ke chalti gadi, but 2nd innings should be different. Test is 2 innings game, hence T20 often is much closer & Test wider than it should.

Lots of hate for Sarfaraz, same people 'll run with their tail between their legs when he takes his team towards victory, they deserve a captain like Azhar

This UAE model of batting has destroyed PAK cricket - these young kids Shadab, Fahim, Imam are still not spoiled by UAE, which is clearly evident in their approach.

Shadab proving me right... I predicted he 'll score more than our batsmen :salute

Sussex’s Imran Khan :)

looks so good to see these young guns smacking the ball.

But they are also natural agressive players and most often then not will play like this.

They kind of bring back the PAK flair..

The specialist batsmen should be ashamed of themselves - these two kids playing without fear and not going into a shell.

hows the bowling looking now after 60+ overs? still seaming? or bowlers look tired?

Even more so since it was kinda predictable. I said that they might outscore the specialists even before they got started.

Shadab is the future no 6 for us, and soon he will be a better batsman than Sarfraz Ahmed

A fresh and new batch of players not imbedded in a negative mindset set by the team does wonders.

Ex: ENG in the mid-00’s.

On green pitches, the best defense is a solid offense.

You are bound to be caught behind if you try and get behind the line of the ball.

Whack it around and you will reap the benefits.

One of the reasons why I love innings like Botham’s 149* and Pandya’s 92 earlier this year.

Part of UAE was moods operandi - Plan Alpha, it doesn't encourage aggressive players. As per that playbook, PAK should open with 2 spinners and slot an ODI line-up of Azhar, Shehzad, MoHa, YK, Misbah, & Asad in top 6......

Junaids theory working to a tee.

It’s Mickey Arthur’s theory.

Pakistan will often be 160-5. They need to have a lower-middle order to convert that into 290-340 all out

Word our RR is blazin.

3.4 dayyummmm :aag

very good batting by these two, also batting quite fearlessly as they know not much to come to better just look to score and get as much as possible instead of going into a shell. The top order batsmen have a different kind of pressure and expectations from them.

3rd and 4rth seamers have been leaking runs. Main seamers not getting much sideways with old ball

Do you think he will start with 2 spinners in the UAE against NZ later this year or still wield three pacers?
