What's new

Mumbai Indians are the champions of IPL 2017

RCB putting all their eggs in the Tymal Mills basket.

If he stays fit with their batting power, he might still be a good price at 1200L.

I would win IPL alone on the fact that I would beat these clueless people at the auction with smart bids.

Mills is absolute average. I saw him at BPL, he was quite ****.

LOL "Unlucky ishant" no bids along with Kyle Abott.

Understand Guptill sucks vs spin like the useless Darcy Short, but Roy going unsold is astounding.

Next year Purses will be tripled.Man the prices will be through the roof.
What, who said that? They should really put a hard cap on individual player salaries & especially on foreigners. This is daylight robbery, really it's the 1.3 billion people who'd be paying for this farce of an auction :40:

No team needs pure batsman for this season? And availability issues with English players.

Heard from a source.Things will be clear around Oct 2017.

Over the hill crap like Kieron Pollard retained for 950 lakhs lol, any pace at this guy and he is useless like in this years BBL.
Only the low bouncing pitches is probably saving him.

God knows...But IPL rights are supposed to triple or quadruple in value. So more money to team owners.Lets see.
That also depends on how much will the rights be sold for, the last IPL rights were for 10yrs & this time it might be 5yrs or less. Smaller cycle means more money the next time bids come in, so at least 2~3x is more reasonable given we don't know how the IPL rights cycle(s) would go in the future.

This time

TV rights to be sold or 10years

Digital and Internet rights for 5 years.

Estimate is around 3-4bnUSD for this plus later add on when Digital rights are sold for another 5 years.

What do the sources say about the # of teams?

The league is still in its infancy. I would expect young Indian starlets to command increasing prices over time.

CSK and RR will return. Rest nothing is sure. Many factors into play.

Morgan went for double Roy's base price though!

Dont know how franchises think tbh but Morgan being a proven finisher in T20s went in his favour I guess. Teams prefer to spend on foreign players who could bat lower down the order and tend to play greenhorns as openers.

It could be possible that in most Matches Delhi Daredevils all 4 overseas players are South Africans .. De Kock,JP Duminy,Morris and Rabada ..

My team SRH gets Nabi at 30 lakhs.

Hope he does well. 1good season and he will be get a lot more next year.

The players get paid pro rata so Stokes will only get 40-50% of his auction figure depending on what
% of the IPL he's available for.

Nabi goes to SRH ..Hope he gets to play some games .. It's hard at times with the four foreign players Rule ..

It's still a bad buy though, kinda like Freddie circa 2008~09 IIRC.

That was one of the worst buy (more like an ego massaging decision) from my favt IPL team. Totally clueless purchase of a player who was well past his best days in cricket.

The base prices, budget caps and salary of all clubs shall be doubled/ tripled next year. Teams shall be valued based on their new price.

Indian star players like Dhoni, Rohit, Dhawan, Bumrah, UV, Rahul, Ashwin, Jaddu, Kohli will all make a lot of money.

Even overseas stars like Smith, Abd, Gayle, Starc, Stokes, Boult, Shakib, Malinga, Pollard, Bravo, Warner, Maxi will get enormous hikes.

Retained players have their own contract with their own teams. They make much more than the money lost by franchises to retain them. Kohli might be already getting 15 crore if not more.

Hmmm

There will be no retainment next season right? If Pune and Gujarat continue then it shall be 10 teams in the tourney. More chances for local and international stars.

Imagine Dhoni moving to Bangalore, Kohli moving to Kolkata, Rohit moving to Chennai, will be a bitter pill for loyal fans :)))

Mills did well against IND in recent T20's, Tahir never performed so well against us and moreover even local Ind players play leg spin well.

He might get picked in round 2 of auction when his base price is reduced.

He is ranked nr. 1 in T20 and ODI.

Just took a fifer against NZ.

I would take Tahir over Mills anyday of the week.

RCB coach Vettori saw him first hand at Brisbane Heat this year. Also, Kohli played him in the T20 series vs England. They are not as clueless as you think

It doesn't mean jack @IPL. Indians have always tonked Tahir all around the park. Steyn is without a doubt world's best for a long time but he fizzled big time in IPL.

Agreed. There is a method behind madness.

Mills could be the vital cog (especially with Starc missing out) for RCB in the summer time dry tracks (across the country) of April/May.

Check his economy rate in IPL. Why waste a overseas slot for a spinner when his performance can be nearly matched by a local spinner or all-rounder?

Yes, economy of 8.6+ in IPL.

No amount of wickets against a weak spin playing team like NZ can change that.

Yep, Tahir didn't set world on fire at IPL. Barring 1 season in 2014 (is it?) even Mitchell Johnson was a big flop at IPL.

Meanwhile, Afghani Rashid khan is going big here.

Rankings don't matter. If majority of Indians players can play something well (leg spin) why pick them for matches on our surfaces?

DeKock, Abd, Rabada, Steyn, Morkel, Faf and even Duminy are valued higher to Tahir as far as IPL is concerned.

Moreover, Mills is available whole season whereas Tahir might be gone for SA international duties in between.
