What's new

New Zealand end Day 1 of 2nd Test on 63/0 after India are bowled out for 242

Is Navdeep Saini in the squad? India need to try new pacers in overseas Tests in a case of emergency.

Now, Kiwis have put pressure on themselves as well - they have to go to lunch with IND 4 down, at least 3 down, otherwise advantage IND. Chasing won't be easy here and there could be a bit spongy bounce, means wicket should get a little faster on Day 2.

IND opted for Jadeja over Ash for his batting ...... seriously?

That is a beautiful looking pitch.

Condering how dry it has been in Christchurch recently i would expect it to be flatter than it looks. It did rain over night though.

I thought if India were going to make a change it would be Shaw who has looked out of his depth in these conditions.

Any idea what happened to Ishwar Pandey? Waqar Younis said that he is going to be the future of India but then he never played for India which is surprising given that he used to play for CSK.

Yes, Ash doesn't know how to take wickets overseas and Jadeja is more economical as well. India can go through a lot of overs from Jadeja without giving enough runs when they will have to give breathing space to their only three pacers.

Ah, didn't see that. Didn't seem necessary tbh.

Either way, Shaw shouldn't be playing.

Agree.

Really foolish to drop a spinner who took 3 wickets in non-conducive conditions only to shore up the batting with a slightly better no. 8.

Seems like the groundsman havent liked the criticism about the flat pitches with wellington being slower than usual and this with more grass.

There was a time when there were a lot of Indian pacers who were getting ignored like Rahul Shukla, Ishwar Pandey and now these players are nowhere to be found.

Shaw will hit three cracking boundaries IMO at start of games play

it's n.z's home. They can do whatever the hell they want. Green mambas, flat, or rank turners lol whatever. Their country. Their pitch. Their rules.

N.z doesn't have to accomodate for anyone.

Wish i was there today now. Im going along tomorrow to the game with my Indian friend who has been talking smack all summer but stopped recently for some reason.

I think they had a similar pitch against England as well in a Test and then Watling went on to score a double.

They were in contention when we did not have guys like Saini, Avesh, Mavi, Nagarkoti and Prasidh Krishna on the bench.

There is silence before the storm.

Obviously we want conditions to suit us but they also put an emphasis on entertainment. The past few years the pitches have been very sedate after the first session.

All NZ pitches were slow when i grew up im the 90s and only the past 15 years or so we have been producing harder faster wickets.

People may remember Brendon McCullum scored the fastest test century on a similar style wicket. In fact this very pitch.

The flat pitches would be worse for pakistan. Hopefully when pakistan tours the pitches are slower and offer assistance for fast bowlers.

Shaw should just play his natural game here. No point scratching around and nicking off eventually.

I don't think the bowlers you have mentioned are in contention except for Saini.

Kohli recently mentioned that Prasidh Krishna could be a surprise package for the T20 WC.

Avesh has been with the Indian team on a quite a few tours including the 2019 WC.

Guys like Mavi and Porel are playing for India A.

Avesh was there as a net bowler. That doesn't mean anything tbh

Yea pretty much. Pakistan used to love our pitches although we had a pretty terrible batting lineup through the 90s.

A wicket like the basin reserve last test would bring Abbas into the game.

I also enjoyed our series in 2009-10 and 2010/11. Especially 09/10. That dundedin test was fun with.Bonds 5 fer. Then the next game has Asif and Aamir bowling well. Great series for fast bowling.

Why there not much talk about pitch when pitch is greenish but so called Cricket pandit talk a lot about when India prepared turning track??

Bonds last test i think :(.

He bowled himself to pieces that test to grab us a rare test win over you guys.

As expected. The pitch is not unplayable in fact very little seam movement so far.

Good shot from Shaw. There can be a short ball coming his way considering where he is standing in his crease

The ball really isn't doing much at all.

Looks green but that's about it. Actually looks like a pretty good pitch to bat on.

The real test of this pitch will be when Philander 2.0 ie Colin De Grandhomme comes into the attack.

Jesus Southee goes full and the ball doesn't move an inch.

Might be worth it bringing in CdG and Jamieson.

Should have batted first, pitch already looking flat lol.

Ball coming nicely onto the bat and the ball not moving whatsoever.

Saini was also there as a net bowler.

Why do you think particularly these bowlers were chosen over other domestic pacers ?

It's just BCCI wasting their money because they can afford it. I have bowled to international players as well in the nets so it doesn't mean anything.

Shaw entering danger phase now where he gets everybody excited about his talent then gets out.

Just watch Indians hype this innings up as runs on a green top.

This pitch is looking good to bat on and there hasn't been a ball that has moved.

Ball is coming onto bat nicely. I think its sunny thats what matters. NZ would have wanted cloudy conditions.

Shaw hits one boundary and he becomes the next Tendulkar. This is the reason I dislike this player

It'll get faster on Day 2. Kiwis were almost forced to bowl first here for 5 men pace attack, but I do think think it's a good toss to lose.

Why is Shaw playing as if he is in an ODI match.

Looks decent enoguh though

The worry is India make a big score here and put us under the pump.

What is Shaw doing? He had the better view and could have told him not to review. Mental midget.
