What's new

New Zealand end Day 1 of 2nd Test on 63/0 after India are bowled out for 242

Babar scored a 90* in his second match in NZ and yet people think Shaw is more talented than him lmao and Babar scored it when Southee still had some gas left in his tank unlike now.
Shaw is 21 years old and second innings is still left so hang on buddy.

Shaw is must for India for overseas tests. He will win games for India when he will have some experience.

That wicket belonged to that slipsman. one hande left handed catch.

Green pitch? It only looks like a green pitch otherwise there is nothing which shows that it is a bowling wicket and not to forget he was protected by Agarwal and Pujara against Boult.

This is the first time i was watching shaw in test match and boy is he entertaining.
He can bring back the sehwag factor in our team, these quick 50 runs will really help us if somehow New Zealand also scores big.

Yeah totally, if he hung around till tea time, the guy would be three quarters towards a double!
Not many bats in the world can do that! And to think this guy is just 3 tests old, and 20 yrs age! Remarkable!

Anything to take the credit away from batsmen who made necessary adjustments. Southee was the best new ball bowler in the last match Not Boult. He took some freebie wickets.

it's green as hell. it's a mamba. Just cause he batted well doesn't mean it wasn't a green top dummy. Shaw is a good talent.

You do know batting gets better as the match goes in NZ.

Yes it usually does but it was still pretty difficult 2nd day, anyways I was just mentioning that Babar was also pretty young when he toured NZ

By that logic, Shaw should score a double hundred or at least a hundred in the next innings

Not in the first test. Movement was there right through the match. You already got owned in one test with a brilliant 54. You should compare him with guys like Pujara, Agarwal, Kohli on the same pitch. Don't bring Babar here.

Babar is special and so is shaw.

Shaw and Gill both are special talents and if they can handle themselves well they can be the next batting stars of India as everybody is already expecting I guess. Just need to keep on developing

Indian team is woefully inadequate to challenge NZ in these conditions. They will be lucky to get away with a draw here. Only positive is Shaw. Wish Gill had found his spot as well.

I don't trust this team. They look demotivated, rudderless. They could get bowled out for 170 from here.

If prithvi Shaw is good for test then he is certainly good for shorter formats..He is in sehwags mould with his approach towards batting .. technically little more polished then sehwag ..

His backfoot game is much better than Sehwag.

Sehwag had issues with movement as he always tries to stay besides the ball to play through off side. But INdia could afford to have someone like him because India had Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman in their line up. India is yet to settle ona nucleus in the middle order. So he still has to be a bit more selective. I certainly don't want him to change his approach. This is what got him here. He should continue.

His backfoot game is much better than Sehwag.

Sehwag had exceptional hand eye coordination. one in a million. He could thrash ultra express bowlers on true wickets for fun. Nobody can take the pitch out of the equation against him on true wickets. Also he thrashed spinners at will even on turning wickets. We have to check how good Shaw is there. But i agree his backfoot game is a bit like Sachin. But offside game is like Sehwag. Also the mindset.

kohli still can't play despite india starting well. he has been in really bad form this series. Tired ? C'mon rahane prove yourself now.

The pitch has played pretty well to be fair.

The cloud has come over to help prolong the swing.

Lol are you kidding me? Just 2 down with 84 on the board, being put into bat on THAT surface!

Par would have been 3/4 wickets here - Williamson should be gutted

on WHAT surface?

The surface wasn't as bad as people were saying.

When a batsman can score a 50 off 60 balls on a Day 1 surface, you know it's not that bad

lol Did everyone do that? No. That guy stood way outside the stumps negated any swing that was on the offer or any seam movement. He eventually threw his wicekt away rather than a good one took him out.

Kohli is tired.
If he is tired, shouldn’t have played the ODI series as he himself didn’t think it was important. To me, his ego is the villain here. I remember Tendulkar shelving his favorite cover-drive in Sydney during 2003 tour as he was getting out to that shot quite often. And he scored a double century that day. When things are NOT going good, you need to adapt.

Movement will be unpredictable for substantial period of time. Some will come a long way, some will come only a shade. same with ball going away.

There has been very little movement off the pitch. The grass is cut shorter than usual at 12mm.

If the sun was out it would be pretty good batting conditions.

The pitch is also offering good bouce now which stroke makers will enjoy.

Ball did move off the pitch all the time. Kohli's iwcket is prime example. It came back. Also CDG brought in so many balls of the pitch.

I've watched every ball and yes Colin did find some movement as he does on any pitch with his scrambled seam. Jamieson also got some balls to nip.

I am a Christchurch local and this pitch is not a mamba by any stretch of the imagination.

Then why leave so much grass lol Come on dude.

The grass is less than usual at 12mm as i previously stated. Its just a very uniform colour.

The pitch is always green at Hagley as otherwise it would be the road to end all roads. You need live grass on this pitch.

This is way too green. I don't complain as home team has the right to prepare pitches that suit their bowlers. Look another wicket. Ball is still doing a lot in the air and off the pitch. NZ has bowlers to exploit these conditions. Familiar conditions.

Lovely ball by Southee. Look at the carry there is plenty of bounce in this wicket.

It underlines what a good knock Shaw's knock was. Nobody looked comfortable. Southee is the one who is creating all sorts of problems. Shaw did not allow him to bowl his favorite length.

Why does the colour matter lol. You are caught up on preconcieved notions.

I play on a green pitch every week and some are absolute belters to bat on.

Are you telling me Grass plays no role in helping bowlers? Swing bowlers will be more lethal there than hit the deck bowlers.

At what point did tell you such a thing?

That is the whole point you are denying. Green doesn't mean tough. No it is tough. Many top teams have struggled. You can produce a wicket taking ball or two every over. There won't be any breathing space.

India is not deserving of #1 Test ranking. They just play a lot of cricket at home.

That Pak series was in November/December so the pitches would be way greener and stay green for long. This pitch is way dryer.

Share the image of the pitch and this one on day one. It is literally full of grass. Still full of grass. Today we even had rain.

Like the way the Indians are crying here, the pitch is a perfect NZ test wicket, there is a little swing, but in no way is it a green mamba.

Just because your Caption and team are duds, and cannot handle a pitch that has a little grass on it, it's not NZ's fault.

I have played on green mambas in Australia and this is not a green mamba.

Unless NZ or Australia or England thrash around every teams abroad there is no question of who deserves who doesn't deserve. England lost in NZ. NZ thrashed in OZ. OZ just managed a draw in England lost to India at home.

Here comes the "I have played" argument Who are you? Don Bradman?
