India will miss ishant badly but umesh is a good bowler and he will rightfully replace him. Jamieson will be replaced by Wagner. Toss will play a huge role. Both teams should fight hard to negate the toss factor.

May the best team win.

Let's go.

Both Jamie and Wagner will play. I predict an innings and 16 wickets defeat for India as Kiwis will probably put 650/4 on board and India will be all out at 169 and 184 scores with Rahane scoring a beautiful 38 and 42 re-establishing himself as India's best batsmen overseas.

I am eagerly waiting for this Test as well and it’s starting at the MOST suitable time - 5:30 pm on Friday afternoon. I can’t recall when Kiwis lost a home Test after winning toss or India anywhere when Kohli has won it; therefore the game starts actually 30 minutes before first ball.

Hagley oval is newly laid ground after the earthquake but it’s still very similar to old Lancaster Park, Sir Hadlee’s home turf - I’ll be extremely surprised if Kiwis play any spinner here. Wagner is a sort of old ball specialist, therefore they don’t need any darter trying to spin it; Southee, CDG & Wegnar have to be extra alert to makeup the over rate; Kiwis will be fine with 4.5 men pace attack.

For India, I think the call is 3 pacers or 4 pacers - Vehari isn’t adding much with bat and 3 pacers are just not enough here. Ashwin will play here, means only question mark is if it’s Vehari, Gill or 4th pacer - I would have picked 4th pacer because India is trailing in a Two Test series and without major weather interruptions, this game will end in direct result - my best bet is to go all out with attack and back on a master innings from one of their three experienced batsmen. Last Test, after second ball, Indian attack looked too flat because of the work load of three pacers, two of them aged into mid 30s.

It’ll be a cracker of a Test for sure and this series has flipped to extreme : 5-0 followed by 3-0; this one can go either way - 2-0 or 1-1.

don't think NZ will score that much but looking at the pitch prepared for this match, pretty sure that the same will happen again as in the first test (NZ - 350, Ind 200 & 150). but that pitch was good to bat on most of the time, though.

With track this green if Indian win the toss then it will be tough 1st session for the Kiwi top order.

Looking forward to this one! :vk

Nz next tour to India all pitch will be rank Turner .

That will suit them more - TRUST ME. On absolute rank turners, it gives them a slim chance for an upset - win toss, bat first, one of Ken, Latham, Ross plays a master innings, tail supports a bit and they can set 200 on day 4/5 wickets with two Indian origin spinners in Patel, Sodhi defending that total - small, but a realistic possibility.

It won't be a decent contest if the Tests are played on good, 5 days tracks with a little brownish grass to bind the top surface for first 3 days and then explode - in fact, Kiwis might struggle to make IND bat 4 times in 3 Tests and not sure how many times they'll take 10 wickets in one innings, let alone 20 in a game, regardless of who wins toss.

Nothing wrong though on that Hagley oval track - BCCI is probably trying to press the nerve button with that tweet so that the groundsmen shave may be 50% of the grass, but the beauty of Test cricket lies in it's diversity. When it started 145 years back, they were struggling to find a proper name - then someone came with it : "Test Match", because it truly tests the skill, endurance and adaptability of a players. And, that's why that WIN Team of Lloyd will remain ever unique - in a span of 12 months they won 5-0 in UK, 3-0 in India and 3-1 in Australia!!!!

that's cause other teams barely knew how to hold a bat at the time.

BCCI crying. This is the way to go against them and they don’t like it

You think so? No need to go against BCCI
BCCI has no right to demand any changes regardinf overseas pitches lol.

n.z or any team for the matter can tailor the pitches to suit their team's abilities.

Looks beautiful honestly. N.z is such a beautiful country. Great scenery. Pitch looks lush green. Amazing.

Never seen anything like it haha. Only in England. Weather probably helps them created such pitches.

Damn it's going to be hard to score.

You think, Greg Chappell, Border, Hughes, Hooks, Gower, Gooch, Lamb, Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Amarnath barely knew to hold the bats ..........

Ishant injured? He was only good bowler lol

Hopefully Saini and Umesh both play now

My team looking at that pitch

Gill
Aggarwal
Pujara
Kohli
Vihari
Pant
Jadeja
Saini
Umesh
Shami
Bumrah

Alright for a start, win the toss for god's sake. Kohli wins useless tosses in jamodis against SL, WI etc but when it matters the most he loses it. Lost 2/3 in SAF, 5/5 in England and in the WC semi.

No spinner please. Go with Saini and Umesh. Drop Vihari and play Gill at 5 with Rahane at 6. We're going into this game as massive underdogs, so might as well try something new.

New Zealand need to win to have a chance of getting to the test championship final.

That's the good thing about the test championship. Every game matters.

NZ indeed is one of the most beautiful countries in world. But, I have traveled to NZ, Switzerland, Netherlands, Mexico, Scotland and Hawai - there is hardly any country more naturally beautiful than Canada, particularly, Alberta, BC & Pacific Provinces. Canada is so big that one life is not enough to see a fraction of it, and it's too cold for most parts for 9 months, but it has everything that you may wish - sea shore, lakes, mountain range, glaciers, forest.....

And, these Canadian Lawmakers are still stuck with their traditional views - tourists will destroy the natural beauty of their country, hence they have made it extremely expensive for foreigners (Excluding Yanks & Brits) to visit Canada. If these people had the vision.... just make it easy for our deshi people to open restaurants (& allow to maintain like our deshi style) and chatti (You can say Dharamshala to sleep in night) - potentials are unreal. At present, you have to pour at least a million to start with - for the standards & rules set here for establishing any such resort and taxes are too high.

Whoever is the Twitter account handler of the BCCI needs to be sacked. Tweets like these suggest they have already lost mentally.

They’re just joking. And I am pretty sure Indian Team are not gonna get upset with what is said on twitter. Its a literal cesspool.

Why would you drop Vihari for failure in one Test, that too his first ever in Newzealand? Even experienced batsmen like Kohli, Rahane and Pujara failed.

Kohli's luck in Test matches in overseas :

In SA - 3 matches - 2 tosses lost
In WI - 6 matches - 5 tosses lost
In Eng-5 matches - 5 tosses lost
In Aus-6 matches - 3 tosses lost
In NZ - 1 match - 1 toss lost

Overall - 21 matches - 16 tosses lost.

it's just a joke. People need to have some chill pill.

If they go for 5 bowlers, who else can be dropped? Remember, it’s not a clown show for 20 overs - you need specialist openers & No. 3. Only other option is to drop Shaw and open with Pujara, which will back fire because that brings Kohli at 3 against new ball, might be too early.

No, if they want to go with 5 bowlers and Shaw is dropped, then Vihari will open.

He has played as a make-shift opener in Australia as well.

But don't think Shaw will be dropped after 1 match.

One of the greenest pitches I have seen in my life.

Pacers should dominate.

Depends how much grass they leave on the actual match pitch. Many times I have seen such pictures of pitches 1 day before and curators shave off the grass before the test starts

But would be exciting if they leave it on. I Always enjoy such pitches

How in world can some one learn to win tosses. What absurdity!!

Just now i was watching some Haider Ali videos on youtube and came across old Prithvi Shaw videos. I didn't know he was already hailed as the next Tendulkar at the age of 15. There seems to be a lot of hype and expectations from him. Hopefully, he won't be dropped for this test.

This.

Rank turners reduce the gap between the teams in those conditions.

Come on you hobbits! Defeat the hordes of Mordor! For the Shire!

Whoever wins the toss is likely to bowl first here - I am not sure though. This track will remain similar for at least 3 days and last time IND scored similar number in 2nd innings under broad sun light. This reminds me of J'burg track which IND won - bat first, bat well and take your catches. Chasing won't be easier either here, unless they shave out some grass this morning.

They are just not good enough to not make excuses. Already the world of Test cricket has changed so much. If you do away with the toss, it will be impossible to compare this Indian team with its contemporaries of the past.

So? yes it's bad luck but? toss has to stay in test cricket. Part of the game.

I expected Du plesis to be a whiner. Not kohli.

if kohli's team can negate the toss factor that will make them the greatest team. So instead of complaining india should work on negating the toss.

no I am totally against changing the toss structure. Nothing should change.

I would suggest bouncer limits to be increased to 4 per over though. Will be more entertaining for the crowd watching fast bowlers in terryfing form.

Maybe west indies can be great again.

Looking at the pitch, India are in for another shocking performance if they bat first.

I thought India would win this series. I seriously underestimated how good NZ are at home. Their team is pretty settled. They field well and give it their all.

Big 1st innings score is probably the key here.

Trent Boult is going to run through the Indians on this track.

Another toss loss for Kohli. Why does he say heads always?

He has a very bad record in losing overseas tosses, very weird pattern.

Anyway, up for an exciting test if pitch behaves as expected

India lose the toss.

If India can put 220+ batting first. They have a big chance. This is a green carpet so at least first 2 days will not be easy for batting. Day 2 morning, pitch might be quickest with similar movement still available

So, India are effectively going in with 2 good bowlers in Shami and Bumrah.

Jadeja will most probably just fill in the overs.

And Umesh is playing his first test here and does not have a good record in SENA.

Guys acting like the Toss was bad for India.

New Zealand know how to grind on tough wickets at home. Even scrapping to 220 is a good total batting first with their attack

If the conditions remain the same, there is no issue but if it flattens out by the second session then yeah.
