Pitch and conditions

Hagley Oval has hosted only two ODIs before, but the pitch is unlikely to be as green as the one the Test was played on. Expect good bounce, carry and a hint of turn. The weather is forecast to remain fine for the duration of the game.

Dimuth is another Tharanga like player, not consistent. He scores a 50, then 3 single digit figures, another 40, another 3 single digit figures, 100 and another 5 single digit scores and there on. If they wanted a player who was going to be there, might as well gone with Tharanga he hit a century and 50 in 2004, he was about 20 years old then. I would have gone with Mahela opening and Chandimal instead of Dimuth.

Come on Kiwis, the form that Williamson is in, Srilankan bowlers possess no threat. Hope Milne picks up a 5fer.

Lankans are favourites. Excellent ODI outfit though they have a giant achilles heel in India.

They did well in Oz over the last few years.

They should replace Dimuth with Chandimal and let Mahela open the innings with Dilshan.

This is LOI brah...... :109:

If Anderson and Mcculum clicks today and the way Rohit smashed 264 against Lanka, I think history will be written today. Let Kiwis bat first, 500 here we come. Boom Boom :afridi

I don't understand why Ryder :kohli is not in the team.

Sri Lanka have won the toss and have elected to bat. NZcricketfan :D

NZ bowling : Adam Milne, McClenaghan , Boult ,Corey Anderson, Nathan McCullum

SL bowling : Kula,Lakmal, Mathews, Perera, Jeevan Mendis, Sena and Dilshan of course.

Lanka has a lot of uncles in their team, Sanga, Dilshan, Mahela, Herath etc

After they retire, wonder what will happen.

Two very good ODI teams.

Supporting SL here.

@ some sri lankan fans, is it ok to write only Lanka or you guys prefer Sri Lanks or only SL?

New Zealand Team

MJ Guptill, KS Williamson, TWM Latham, GD Elliott, CJ Anderson, BB McCullum*, L Ronchi†, NL McCullum, AF Milne, MJ McClenaghan, TA Boult

Sri Lanka Team

TM Dilshan, FDM Karunaratne, KC Sangakkara†, DPMD Jayawardene, AD Mathews*, HDRL Thirimanne, NLTC Perera, BMAJ Mendis, KMDN Kulasekara, SMSM Senanayake, RMS Eranga

Milne averaging 62, but this will come down.

Milne 4 balls around 137. Seems like he is concing on line and length.

I would have picked Matt Henry in the world cup squad.... but he doesn't even get a chance in an odi? Awful selection.

Milne was bowling 152 kph from ball 1 in UAEbut has not crossed 145 kph here, mostly bowling in 130s.

Dimuth's inclusion is bad, if they are so keen on playing Mahela in the middle, they should have gone on with Tharanga or Kusal lol.

Wickets got some pace and bounce in it, slow start here from SL.

He has done well as an opener but Dilshan looks like a complete hack against good pace bowling..

Kiwis fielding always earns them extra wickets and saves so many runs!

The NZ commentator sounded delusional..... average of 33 and strike rate of 79 is not a "phenomenon" by any means....

Good to see another bowling friendly pitch. much better than the last two I saw in Aus-Ind test series. Good to see because I was tired of batsmen dominating cricket for a long time.

He avoided to mention the average, must have felt like a fool when he saw the average.

I think Mathews should be batting up the order with the form he is in.

Kiwis have their obsession with bits and pieces players, starting from Harris to Anton Devcich. Mahela is a terrible batsman away from home, doesn't have a 50 in kiwi soil.

If this Kiwi side doesn't win the world cup, they never can. One of the strongest contenders this WC.

Good on Russel not taking rubbish from Doull, though Doull is sort of right

Would take Henry any day over this rubbish bowler

Why is Nathan Mcculum still playing? Is he there because he is Macca's brother? Averaging 48.21 with the ball, with a SR of 59.9. Gotta feel for Ish Sodhi
