65 for 1 (14.0 overs)

Matt Prior opening. 43 not out.

Riaz Afridi picking up Strauss for 5.

The one-day leg of England's tour of Pakistan got underway in the leafy surrounds of Bagh-e-Jinnah in Lahore, as Pakistan A won the toss and chose to bowl first in the misty morning conditions. Because of bad-light issues, this match has been designated a 45-over-a-side affair, although even with a 9.30am start - half-an-hour earlier than was the case for last week's Test - it is unlikely that a result will be possible unless one side or the other collapses spectacularly.

That prospect was enhanced significantly when Andrew Strauss became the first victim of the morning, caught behind off Riaz Afridi for 5. Fresh off the plane from England, where he had been attending the birth of his first child, and named captain as well in the absence of a host of senior players, Strauss and Matt Prior, his opening partner, struggled in the bowler-friendly conditions, adding just 19 runs in the first six overs.

England's team for this match includes all three one-day specialists - Kabir Ali, Ian Blackwell and Vikram Solanki, as well as Prior and James Anderson, neither of whom took part in the Test series. Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison have been rested ahead of the first one-day international in three days' time, while Michael Vaughan is back home in England undergoing treatment on his injured right knee.

For Pakistan, the most significant name on the team-sheet is Abdul Razzaq, who is returning from injury and could yet play a big part in the one-day series, not to mention the forthcoming Test series against India.

81 for 1 (16.0 overs)

Prior has reached his 50.

Solanki also going roughly run a ball.

95 for 2 (18.0 overs)

Razzaq picks up Solanki in his first over..

300 score on the cards albeit only a 45 over match.

104 for 3 (20.0 overs)

Arafat Bowled Pieterson for 2.

138 for 4. (28.0 overs)

Prior out for 72. Tahir Khan picked him up.

Matt Prior grasped his opportunity to impress at the top of the order, as England recovered from a difficult start to the one-day leg of their tour of Pakistan. After 28 overs against Pakistan A, they had moved along to 134 for 4, with Prior pushing his claims for a first-team place with boundary-laden 72.

But as the sun cut through the clouds and the early life in the pitch died down, Prior began to unfurl the selection of strokes that could earn him a role as England's Supersub when Marcus Trescothick returns to the top of the order. He added 76 for the second wicket with Vikram Solanki, who has been offered another opportunity in the absence of Michael Vaughan.

Trescothick, Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison have been rested ahead of the first one-day international in three days' time, while Vaughan is back home in England preparing for surgery on his injured right knee.

Solanki had moved along to an attractive 26 when he was superbly caught by Tahir Khan, running back from point to take a skied swish over his shoulder. That gave Abdul Razzaq a welcome wicket on his comeback from injury, and soon afterwards Kevin Pietersen's difficult tour continued, as he was bowled by a beauty from Yasir Arafat for 2. Prior's performance came to an end as he top-edged a sweep to short backward square-leg, giving Tahir Khan his first wicket of the innings.

204 for 7 (42.0 overs)

Rao Iftikar picking up wickets of Kabir Ali and Ian Blackwell... impressive figures of 2 for 23 off 7 overs..

236 for 7 (45 overs) -innings close.

Collingwood unbeaten 75 off 78 balls.

Bell 12 not out

Kabir Ali's dismissal was a freak.

The driven ball hit Collingwoods bat and looped up in the air and then caught.

:)) :)) Collingwood having a tough tour, eh?

Matt Prior grasped his opportunity to impress at the top of the order, and Paul Collingwood quickly transferred his Test form into the one-day arena, as England recovered from a difficult start to their one-off warm-up match against Pakistan A.

At the innings break, they had compiled a decent 236 for 7 in 45 overs, with Collingwood unbeaten on 75 from 79 balls. Earlier, Prior had been the main man for England. In the absence of Marcus Trescothick, he took his opportunity to impress at the top of the order and cracked a boundary-laden 72.

Because of bad-light issues, this match has been designated a 45-over-a-side affair, although even with a 9.30am start - half-an-hour earlier than was the case for last week's Test - it is unlikely that a result will be possible unless England can rattle through the opposition.

On a misty morning, survival was tricky in the early stages of England's innings, and Prior and Andrew Strauss added just 21 runs in the first six overs before Strauss was caught behind off Riaz Afridi for 5. Fresh off the plane from England, where he had been attending the birth of his first child, and named captain for this fixture as well, it was a rude reacquaintance with the country.

But as the sun cut through the clouds and the early life in the pitch died down, Prior began to unfurl the selection of strokes that could earn him a role as England's Supersub when Trescothick returns to the top of the order. Prior's performance came to an end soon afterwards as he top-edged a sweep to short backward square-leg, giving Tahir his first wicket of the innings.

But Collingwood came into his own in the middle order, marshalling the remainder of the innings as a selection of colleagues played handy cameos around him. England's team for this match includes all three one-day specialists - Solanki, Kabir Ali and Ian Blackwell, as well as Prior and James Anderson, neither of whom took part in the Test series. Trescothick, Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison have been rested ahead of the first one-day international in three days' time, while Vaughan is back home in England preparing for surgery on his injured right knee.

Blackwell, who has a golden opportunity to cement a slot in the side ahead of the World Cup next winter, had moved along to a quickfire 15 when he was caught behind off Iftikhar Rao, while Kabir's innings ended in freakish circumstances, when his thumping straight drive cannoned off Collingwood's shoulder and looped into the hands of Rafitullah Mohammad at mid-on.

Flintoff, Harmison, Hoggard, Tresco????? Where are they?

Flintoff, Harmison and Trescothick are resting.

Hoggard wasn't in the ODI squad.

England's reserve wicket-keeper Matthew Prior made a strong case to be picked for the first one-dayer against Pakistan after scoring 72 in a warm-up.

Prior smacked 12 fours in his 84-ball innings as England hit 236-7 in their 45 overs against Pakistan A.

Paul Collingwood continued his fine form, scoring an unbeaten 75.

Stand-in skipper Andrew Strauss scored just five and Kevin Pietersen failed again with just two runs.

Tahir Khan and Iftikhar Anjum took two wickets each for Pakistan A in the match at Bagh-e-Jinnah.

England rested Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison in what is the only warm-up game before the five-match series starts in Lahore on Saturday.

Vikram Solanki hit 26, Ian Blackwell 15 and Kabir Ali four, although he was especially unlucky to fall to an oddity of a dismissal.

His full-blooded on-drive hit non-striker Collingwood's bat and looped up for a comfortable catch at mid-on.

England were put in to bat in by Pakistan A captain Abdul Razzaq.

22 for 1 (6.0 overs)

I am listening to bcc radio 5 live bulletins.

Rafatullah 30 of 30 so far, looks like he might get a nod ahead of Hameed for the first ODI.

I think this is the ODI squad from PCB website...No Rafatullah!! :O

1. Inzamam-ul-Haq Captain
2. Younis Khan Vice Captain
3. Salman Butt
4. Shoaib Malik
5. Mohammad Yousuf
6. Abdul Razzaq
7. Kamran Akmal
8. Arshad Khan
9. Yasir Arafat
10. Naved-ul-Hasan
11. Shoaib Akhtar
12. Mohammad Asif
13. Yasir Hameed
14. Mohammad Sami
15. Danish Kaneria

Presumably this is for the first 2 one-dayers only as there is no Afridi.
Likewise a good performance here would open the door for Rafatullah to be added in time for the 3rd game.

But Inzi did mention inclusion of Rafataullah in the team when he gave a pretty lame excuse of having Sami in the team despite countless pathetic performances.

I'm a big fan of Yasir H...but having said that, would like to see Rafatullah in the 1st ODI....looks a good player....

Who's rafatullah? Never heard of him.......

140 for 4 (30.0 overs)

Collingwood bowls Razzaq for 8...probably tried to cut him.

140/4 (30 ov)

The Razzaler is gone!

Batsmen: R B 4s 6s
Bazid Khan 35 47 2 0
Faisal Iqbal 5 9 0 0

How do you get bowled by Collingwood??? The guy is just so slow! It looks like hes rusty and better placed at number 6/7 in the batting order. They should be able to knock off these runs, after the good start they've had, and against these bowlers.

Bazid Khan can prove a point here by winning us this game.

Bazid will start attacking after his fifty. Hell finish the game in a couple overs since all the tension is gone.

Pakistan A 158/4 (34 ov)

Pakistan A require another 79 runs in 66 balls with 6 wickets remaining

Bazid Khan 49 not out
Faisal Iqbal 9 not out

Riffy played very nicely from what I saw !

168 for 4 from 36 overs

Bazid not out 53
Faisal not out 15

Yeah bazid should finish this quickly but he has changed his approach quite a bit. He plays slower before he would hit flourish of stroke no matter the consequence.
