What's new

Pakistan [428 & 134/1] beat Northamptonshire [259 & 301] by nine wickets in tour match

Congratulations to Amir, Abbas and Ashraf for picking up a grand total of zero wickets in these seamer friendly conditions.

If they tuk tuk throughout the next 3 days, I'll be more than happy with the performance.

Not surprising some people are just fine with the batsmen surviving. After all pakistanis have gotten used to this pathetic tuk tuk batting. First they can't get the wickets of some unknown batsmen then they can't score runs against unknown bowlers. Such is the quality of this team. But i bet your proud they haven't lost a wicket yet.

Did anyone watch the wickets? Was it poor batting or did Shadab turn it miles?

Was expecting a better performance from Abbas. If I am correct, he is the only one who has a more recent experience of English conditions.

Good for Shadab to get experience in first class cricket. Nice run out for the bowlers but extremely disappointed about the amount of wickets the seamers picked up. There's no excuse.

When I said the exact same thing in the "Yasir is injured" thread all posters including you said spinner is useless in England in "early summer"

Well you don't want to be relying excessively on your spinner in early season English conditions - it's critical to use the new ball effectively but our pacers are not bowling the right lengths. Maybe its partly due to the deluge of T20 we've been playing recently that we've forgotten how to bowl in Test conditions.

Northants, a Div 2 County team, should not be scoring at 3.5 RPO against us.

Abbas the trundler should be no where near the playing 11. He should not have been picked in the first place.

I just checked Lancashire's scorecard and Jimmy Anderson bowled 19 overs yesterday for no reward. Along with the Cook's, Root's and Bairstow's failures, seems like the England camp aren't doing great either.

Ray of hope.

That says much about nothing. They weren't playing Pakistan, we are barely competing with county teams.

Another poor start with the bat. Scoreboard going nowhere.

relying on seniors + bhanja might embarrass us to Ireland.

Asad Shafiq is not good enough to play test cricket period. Bhanja will be found out.

Fakhr has proven he can play in England. Usman Salahuddin, once given a chance will show how rubbish we were sticking with Asad Shafiq.

This is why I’ve been banging on about Fakhar opening.

Imam and Azhar survived like 10 overs and took the scoreboard nowhere. No momentum in the innings whatsoever. If Fakhar survives 10 overs he will definitely provide some impetus to the innings.

I mean look at this logic. The last inning Fakhr played in the UK he hit 100+. I know it was a one day, but it was in England and a huge pressure game. Atleast give the guy a chance in the practice game.

I think this was done on purpose to ensure than Inam's position in the playing XI is not challenged.

to put in in perspecitve, Northampton is the second worst county team right now. Number 9 in division 2 and Bhanja got a 11 of 60, damn.

Looks like Ireland will humiliate us in their first test. Both batting and bowling looks extremely poor

yes the logic.
Saad Ali - apparently the most impressive domestic batsman last season = on the bench
Usman S - 2nd best domestic player for a while behind Fawad = on the bench
Fakrh - possibly the best opener in the country = on the bench

Failure Asad S = in the XI
Bhanja with 1 or 2 good innings in domesitc = in the XI
Babar Azam = average first class player, so far failure in test cricket = in the XI

team selection will haunt us

Harris Sohail doing better than everyone else shows two things:

1. Domestic Performance is the best measure of selecting a player
2. We need to get the right playing XI!

Our test is the most boring team among test teams. Tuk tuk even a 3rd grade team!!!!

Exactly Micky's test team selection is a big question and cause us defeat against team like Sri Lanka

Some crazy Fakhar Zaman comments here.

Firstly, a Test opener needs to bat time to get the shine off the new ball. Runs are secondary.

Secondly, even on grassless wickets at the Champions Trophy, Fakhar Zaman got hit on the head about six times in England in a handful of matches.

That’s because he was taking the short ball on. He said it himself.

Fakhar can bat time lol. His FC average is higher than both Imam and Sami.

Junaid - That is why you have these practice games, to see how he might do. There is no way to know unless he is given a chance.

As for agressive openers, Sehwag and Warner say Hi

Its higer than Sami, Imam, Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam.

Asad Shafiq has a poor technique. Just sits deep in his crease, no forward press, no backlift. Don't see him getting any goods for Pak during this tour. They better give chance to someone like Saad who is in red hot form or Usman.

I don't mind the 3-0 loss upcoming. This series will be the end of all the deadweights likes Amir and Shafiq.

Think Harris may bat at 3. I'm not against that. Has the technique to see off the new ball and has enough strokes to attack spin once set. Also a good player of the pull and cut.

Shafiq also getting some vital time in the middle.

never seen Haris play a good pull

haris is probably our best batsman in the test cricket in both technique and temperament wise..

Good going Haris. Just needs to leave deliveries outside off unless its really wide or short. We do not want to gift England wickets.

Fazul team.... fazul selection.... we should excuse other selves from playing test cricket and just concentrate on T20 and T10.... that is the extent of our attention span.

So Acha Bacha Azhar and Bhanja Imam bat 10 overs and barely score any runs against a Div 2 side.... may God help us.

It’s Haris, not Harris.

Runs aren’t important for test openers Junaids

We have batted out 40 overs and scored only 90 runs against a side that came 9th in Div 2 County. Let that sink in for a second.

It's in our DNA. Either tuk or Boom. There is no middle game hence the low strike rates in Test cricket.

I think, start was good, but openers wasted the start after an hour stay. PAK should reach 450 at least from here on with Hari hitting a double, and may be Babar a hundred.

I would still take Fakhar over all these snails anyday of the week !!

Babar will probably get out to that off spinner.

It's not as if it is cloudy and overcast... seems like a bright sunny day with good batting conditions

You cannot change ones mindset overnight. They would rather keep it safe then risk a collapse.

It used to be the same in the ODI's but fortunately Mickey got trough them and things look better there.

Is it not sad that the quality of coverage (despite lack of sound) for this "practice match" is miles better than what PTV has for actual domestic and international matches. Hadh hi hai yaaaaaaar

Asad "Technique" Shafiq is barely moving his feet and just pushing his hands at the ball. Sitting duck this guy.

Exactly. Despite limitations it's still a decent coverage and we get to see Haris etc. bat. But watching PTV domestic games is a very hard task even in 2018.

What’s wrong with that?

It’s May 5!

Yesterday Bairstow and Root’s Yorkshire was 50 all out.

Pakistan just need to bat time and adapt to the conditions.

Things are not better in ODIs either, we just got whitewashed in NZ due to poor top order play outside of Fakhar remember?

every time Harris scores, I get more ****** of at all the years Fawad has not been selected.

In general the intent is better and we look to score of every delivery even though execution still needs work. But that has also to do with the players we select.

What I meant to say is that in the past Pak was a max 250 making batting team and they were content with it as well. Now they understand that even with the best bowlers that's not enough and it will not be tolerated.

Indeed, I didn't notice that White rises had a batting line-up which apart from Root & Johny had Pujara, Lyth & Bresnan.

Freedom day here in The Netherlands.

But yea as long as they do not gift their wickets it's fine.

The intent was clearly not there against NZ besides Fakhar because of wrong selection just like they are doing in the test team ... playing guys with sub 30s FC avgs while superior options are on the bench or in case of Fawad perennially ignored!

Might not look like it but it's what they are trying to do and what Mickey has been practising. Like I said earlier they still lack in execution but that takes time + better selection policy will help.

It really is a matter of selection, get the right players in for right formats on merit and it will show.

What a straight drive by Harry for 4 <3

The more I think such a talent was wasted for 5 years the more I hate the clueless lot at PCB
