Lyon is gonna come in soon and how Shan who isnt really comfortable against spin plays him can be important here.

I agree, Lyon will be Shans real test.

I know it's easy to say but imo he should make sure he is scoring runs of Lyon ever over while the ball isn't turning.

Never like to see pakistan play in the UAE
Such a dead country for cricket. No spectators

Even now a days when Pak batsmen struggle against spinners, right handers play off spinners generally well. Lets hope the trend continues.

Iftikhar’s role in this test will be an important one if things go even a little bit according to the plan. He will need to push the innings forward at no 6 to enable Pak to reach a decent total and might have to play with tail as well when his hitting ability can come in handy.

His bowling would be important against Warner, Head and Wade.

This is some great display of patience and concentration, didn't really expect Pak to play out first 10 overs unscathed.

31-0 but when i wake up

It will be 257 and Aus 40/2

Because that's pakistan cricket for ya

Pakistan - 33/0 after 13 overs.

First hour is done. Drinks break.

Good start from Pakistan.

Nice cover drive, finding his confidence now.

The seat colours at the Gabba are reallly annoying. Whose great idea was this?

He's mediocre for sure, it's why he went the Kolpak route. But he's a beast in conditions that support bounce as with his height and hit the deck style of bowling he gets plenty.

doesn't matter. don't need to justify the ability of that fraud. let's focus on pakistann. pakistan that faced s.africa were far weaker than current pakistan. Finally they have a good management structure. Right personnel picking the players. Giving chances to youth. Now the next step is to stick by them. Can't just give them one or 2 series and call it a bust.

It's paying off slowly and will do so in the long term. fantastic start by pakistan. Excellent batting. Absolutely shut them down.
I knew pakistam will come back firing and they will make a lot of people eat their words. let's go.

Good start. No wickets and sensible batting. No expansive shots. Who cares if Shan isn't playing strokes, it's test cricket. One thing these 2 guys need to do is to leave the ball on length, that is very important in these conditions with the true bounce. Only play when necessary or when it is a loose ball. There was a ball that Azhar edged to gully on the bounce, he didn't need to play at it, you can leave those on length.

Azhar will again take the strike against Lyon in this over. The longer the trend continues the better I guess

Shan seems better suited at number 3 as he isn't that good against the brand new ball, but when it is 10 overs old he is pretty solid. He has improved a huge amount in the last couple of years.

Haha, yeah the seats are annoying. Pretty clever though.

Sure, but so far they haven't really bowled any short and wide ones. Besides, with 3 slips and a gully it's pretty risky for the time being.
Besides Starc, it has been mostly fourth stump line. Maybe make room and go through point.

I don’t see much scoring option vs Hazlewood and Cummins. Shan has to bring out the pull shot soon.

It's the hope which kills you.

Need to score 450 to be in the game here.

People say they should fight hard and we wont have problems. When they fight hard people have problem with increasing hope. :wahab2

Yes, and it is important for Azhar to get to the pitch and smother the spin, as short leg really comes into play in Australia.

Sledging has begun :smith

The Aussie tactic when things aren't going their way. But it does make the game even more entertaining, the Aussies wouldn't be the Aussies without it, they would be Kiwis.

I hope the Pakistan quicks get in the Aussie faces as well.

Even if they go at current rate without loosing many wickets, they will score 231 by the end of the day which is fine in my opinion.

The Pak team messed him around early in his career. He then ran into poor form with a mix of facing some unplayable deliviries but yes he has worked hard. A Shan Masood 100 here would change his life forever.

I assume they wanted the ilusion of people sitting in seats when the stadium is empty. I only like Adelaide and Sydney. These football grounds dont look great with cricket being played.

I think we cant let lyon settle...if we just block.him.paine will.keep rotating his fast bowlers

Yea either play straight or go on back-foot and hit it behind short leg.

That’s what I did when I played Lyon in the video-game, I was also standing on leg stump to avoid hitting against the turn.

Haha, Cricket 19 or Don Bradman cricket?

As Javed Miandad has said, "Never drive a spinner down the ground", you have a good chance of being caught and bowled.

Why would you go to a guy who was terribly exposed on just his last tour? SA.

Let's not talk about "past tours".

Based on merit - both are line and length type of bowlers.

The differentiators are:

1) Pace
2) Current form (esp in Aus)

Now that should make things easier, who to select.

Besides, neither Abbas nor IK will run through the Aus lineup. Both aren't top quality.
Abbas wasn't at his best against South Africa but he wasn't hit to every corner of the ground like Imran Khan was at the SCG.

Both bowl at exactly the same pace, however, Abbas offers much more control and that with a better seam position and bowling tight in at the stumps.

If you watched the highlights of the tour game you would've seen that Imran Khan was limited to bowling wide of the crease which effectively takes LBW out of the equation completely and makes it difficult to swing the ball.

I'm not saying that Abbas would have dismantled Australia but he's more of a wicket taking threat and as I mentioned before offers a lot more control.

Don't mind this at all from these 2. We have attacking players later down the order who can take on the old ball. If Pakistan can bat deep and take this game into day 5, it may get hard to bat on in day 5.

RR is under 2 it’s too slow

First session of a test series in a country where we've been notoriously bad. This is the perfect start. Australia has a 4 man attack and if we tire them out Babar and Iftikhar can wreck havoc later on

Say what you want about Misbah but the man knows his craft, which is test cricket. Under Mickey Pak would be 2-3 down by now demonstrating his intense hatred of losing. Openers in one hour showed more character than Mickey's entire tenure. Now this may not be enough to win a test but definitely a step towards the right direction.

We should have different coaches for different formats..

Brilliant start, a little slow but this is what you need in Australia - the Pujara way of grinding. I can’t recall when a touring side went to lunch zero down on first morning.

I would have absolutely loved to see Sameen Gul bowl for Pakistan along with Shaheen and Naseem. I believe Sameen has all the ingredients to be successful in these conditions. He is also more deserving than Imran Khan Sr. Sameen's FC stats are brilliant overall and this year.

Say what you want about Shan Masood, but this guy is pretty tough, he is a gritty player.
