What's new

Pakistan end Day 1 of the 1st Test on 33/4 after bowling out South Africa for 220

How come Pak bowlers were not getting so much out of the pitch?

If we keep making these kind of pitches then how will we win even at home. Should have gone for a better wicket. This one is too volatile.

Poor pitch man. They had over 3 weeks to get this ready after QEA and this is not good for cricket.

Shan masood is still better than Flat bully abid ali.

Shan
Azhar should be openers until Imam is ready according to Mohd wasim.

We cannot blame pitch for our batting failure. Our batsmen will fail even batting paradise.

invariable bounce, Pakistan are against the ropes here big time

Imam has technical issues aswell playing Haider giving him experience against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Usually the bowlers who hit the pitch hard get the benefits of variable bounce and our bowlers aren't of that ilk. Besides, they didn't bowl straight enough.

Look at how Babar bats. That is a base level requirement for test match batting.

The recent debutants all have a very loose technique and zero temperament. Tbh they seem pretty dim. Not a lot of IQ in this squad at the moment.

Since 2015 fast bowling stats are extraordinary for SA (Avg of 21) and also good for India, Aus and Eng. Pak’s stats as expected have been ordinary for the period with avg of 32

This and they obviously are not accurate enough to exploit much

What is Waqar doing as coach? He is not correcting our bowlers making same mistakes again and again. Getting fat cheque doing nothing

Azhar Ali is such a good batsmen for Pakistan. I hope he continues for another 2 years we need him, hoping for Azhar and Babar 200 runs partnership here. Come on Babar smack rabada.

This is why we ranked no.7. We made a road pitch and expecting our team to become a good team.

This is why India is the most successful team right now, pitches they make are supporting pitches.

Pakistan may fall into their own trap, if spinners don’t do anything today.

Just going trough the thread.
You seem to be a good pitch reader, PCB should hire you. I know feel the pitch is supportive enough so are we also a successful team?

Good thing is olivier went the kolpak way. Otherwise we would have needed concussion substitutes.

Our batters are not good enough i knew every run would matter their spinners havent even come in yet...

I Like Pitches which are supporting, you dont need dead rubbers. That is the only way you going to find good players, who has good techniques.

I feel the bounce may get more consistent as the ball gets older. Need to be really careful these two for a while.

Why SA don't have any sponsors on their shirt?
Only NB on their sleeves which isn't the main shirt sponsor.

One of these two needs to get a big score and then Fawad and Rizwan to chip in as well.

Awful awful pitch

Rashid Latif warned the management of pitch having invariable bounce if they try to create a spin track on this ground

The South Africans watched India's tactics against Australia in Australia. They are using the exact same bowling tactics and field placements against our batting line up

This pitch is playing like a 4th day pitch . . lack of preparation or done on purpose?!

Quite a few balls staying down. Need an exceptional effort from atleast one Pak batsmen to get some lead in the first innings as 4th innings here cant be easy

South Africa averages 24 (not 21) and India averages 25 if we take from 1st Jan 2015

If the South African batting was much cop, Pakistan would have no hope of winning even a single test.

Losing 2 wickets isn't that big an issue for Pakistan as everyone knows that we have tailenders opening the batting, but it's crucial that these two are still in at the close of play.

Those tactics should, at least temporarily, work against most orthodox batsmen.

If bowlers can bowl 85mph or higher wicket to wicket, there are very few orthodox shots to be played: glance, tuck, flick, defence. Just place fielders in the corresponding positions and if the bowlers can keep their discipline makes it a battle of attrition.

Having said that, depending upon whose concentration and attrition levels triumph, can come across as a boring/defensive tactic.

Also, on a pitch like this with the uneven bounce, bowling wicket to wicket is cricket 101.

Tabraiz Shamsi update:

The player was replaced in the line-up just before the toss due to sudden onset lower back pain.
The medical team will assess him further and manage him accordingly.

This is where I think Pakistan just dont seem to have an extra dimension in their thought process

Why is Babar and Azhar so deep in their crease waiting like sitting ducks for the lbw or the ball that stays low?

Problem is pace of SA bowlers is pretty good so standing a bit forward would also not be easy

These guys are bowling 140+. If you go dowm too much, you will get one on the head.

They were bowling 10kp/h less speed.

The average speed of Afridi was more than Rabada

Rabada 137 avg, fastest 143

Afridi 139 avg, fastest 145.2

Nortje 141 avg, fastest 145.6

Ali 133 avg, fastest 143

Our bowlers are not accurate and disciplined enough. From where can you get the speed numbers?

South Africa managing to tie up Babar, which is pretty difficult. He loves playing his strokes

Pakistani pitches are never great for spinners. That’s SL, BD and part of India.

Seems like Misbah screwed up here asking for a dust-bowl.

When you only have two pace bowlers you need both of them to create difficulty, Hasan was bowling too slowly so no pressure from one end. Apart from his short pitched stuff he wasn't really getting anything from the pitch. When the pitch has variable bounce, it's much harder to negotiate when the ball is coming at you quicker.

Not the only factor though, SA bowlers have been more accurate as well.

Ramiz is so clueless, he doesn't even know the location of the stadium in Karachi. He must have been travelling to Karachi for more than 50 years now. :facepalm

Azhar looks awful these days. Always looks hurried

Like it or not, he’s the one standing at the crease, not Abid and not Imran Butt.

In retrospect after seeing this pitch, I would have played this (and I was asking for the same before the match started too):

1. Azhar Ali
2. Abid Ali
3. Babar Azam
4. Saud Shakeel
5. Fawad Alam
6. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
7. Faheem Ashraf
8. Hassan Ali
9. Yasir Shah
10. Sajid Khan
11. Shaheen Afridi

what a soft dismissal, did the curator think we han misyou batting for us, ghar me b chohay, Misbah deserve nothing better. Loving it. Had hogai yar,

Not sure how Pak is even gonna score 200 here like this. :mw1

Brilliant day of cricket this. Now the match has gotten interesting.

Pakistan needs a lead of more than a hundred to be competitive.

Babar just didn't look himself . . extremely tentative and rusty . . his movements, bat flow .. everything was off!

Are we allowed to quote ourselves from other threads ‘highlighting’ Babar’s proficiency against spin?
