Hardworking 1 by Masood.

Showed a lot of character, determination, intelligence, maturity, composure and bla bla.

Make him captain.

As i said we should have bowled first...lots of seam they cant play anderson or curran here

Told you all it’s a bad decision to bat first here.

Ball is swinging because it is very humid.

Curran is the guy to watch out for. What quality to bring in for Stokes. England truly blessed in the seamer all rounder spot

That fluke hundred is going to prove to be very costly as usual. Pakistani fans get excited very easily and fail to look at the bigger picture.

Masood never was and never will be good enough to score consistently at the highest level. You can work your backside off, but you will never excel at the highest level unless you have a lot of talent and he does not.

Hard work complements talent; it will never substitute talent.

Masood will never get his career average above 35.

Asad, Azhar and Fawad? Are they the only problems you find?
My Pakistan Test eleven would be:

1. Sami Aslam
2. Imran Butt
3. Shan Masood (c)
4. Babar Azam
5. Asad Shafiq (replaced soon by Haider Ali)
6. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
7. Shadab Khan
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Mohammad Amir or Mohammad Abbas
10. Naseem Shah or Haris Rauf
11. Shaheen Shah Afridi

My only players over 30 are Shan Masood and Shafiq, and Shafiq is my next guy to be replaced by a youngster.

Not being Pakistani, I find it amazing that Misbah has gutted the young 2018 team to England and systematically stripped it of players in their twenties.

At full strength, Pakistan can field a better team than England. But I hope they get thumped for this geriatric selection process.

Can't - unless you are thinking of bringing Wasim, Waquar, Saeed, Inzi, Zaheer, Imran, Javed, Mazid ... back with a time machine.

This is what it's there - I don't want to spoil this thread at the start of a new Test, but there was ENOUGH to defend on Day 4 wicket at Traford - 277, and the PAK attack that failed to defend that is whats best available. In fact, if you were to chose the XI, PAK would have lost with a MUCH bigger margin, because you had been selling the idea of dropping the guy keeping PAK in that Test for some Mohammad Amir.

You are very good at entertaining gullible PAK fans regarding the talents not picked by Misbah, but reality is different.

Is Cricinfo slow to update Pakistan matches for some reason?

Noticed it even in the first test that they're a bit behind.

I think shan masood needs another coaching stint...
No matter who he hire as his coach... He was, he is and he will always be a mediocre batsman.

Glad to see overrated Archer being kicked out for good. He doesn't belong in test arena alongside Cummins, Shami level bowlers

This XI will make ENG bat maximum 4 times out of 6, you can take it from some one following PAK cricket into 4th decade now, almost religiously - more than most Pakistanis here.

This Abid Ali looks atrocious

Might get away in the non moving pitches in Pak but another pak batter who has zero technique away from home

Abid Ali isn’t really an inspiring batsman. There is a reason he has played so late

Shan didn't gift his wicket away by playing a nothing shot. No opener can play that.

Typical Anderson dismissal. Even Pujara would struggle to defend that.

Anderson traps Masood on the front pad for a plum LBW:

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/8e3634" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

Abid doesn’t have a clue what is happening. It appears that he has never batted against quality swing bowling in his life.

Shan Masood got two lives during first Test. He scored a century.

Can Abid do the same?

Someone has to stick around to neutralize the new ball burst.

Can't manage to be rolled over under 200 here.

11/0 after 5 overs.

England are bowling well. Confidence seems high after first Test win.

Abid is very good on front foot, if he can survive till lunch, should enjoy batting here. Without Archer, ENG's fastest bowler is probably Broad, can't force him to back foot.

Pujara also averages around 50.

Masood will not get anywhere close to that figure even if he practices for 24 hours a day. He doesn’t have the base talent required to excel at the top level.

Investing in him is a waste of time unless Pakistan is content with its 7th ranking and making a sub 35 average player captain.

I think this has to be the worst batting line up for test for Pak ever bar Babar. Give zero confidence.

Agreed. That was a top over by Anderson, who is extremely pumped up and an ATG in these conditions.

This is about as tough as it gets for an opener anywhere in the world. And he showed that he can fight and survive in the last test.

Just needs to get through this initial period and he will score quickly and put England on the backfoot. Will silence a lot of haters too.

Azhar has never looked worse. He looks completely finished. The pressure of captaincy seems to have accelerated his decline.

Both batting and bowling units are equally rubbish. We overrate our bowling beyond limits but it doesn’t change the reality.

Pujara surely would have defended that ball with middle bat. His game is built on that.

Quite sad, considering he has everything going for him except the ability to be able to play at test level.

Anderson always seems to find extra motivation whenever there is talk of him retiring or getting dropped.

Azhar Ali is 6 ft tall? doesnt look like it

Max 5”9 imo. I know a guy who met Babar last year in England during the world cup and he said that Babar was 5”8-5”9.
Azhar Ali and Babar Azam have the same height.

Very warm and very humid. Big orthodox swing for days. This could be a real low-scoring dogfight. The addition of Curran’s batting may be critical.

Well it was michael atherton on commentary who said azahr is 6ft. He possibly could have misjudged azhars height

He doesn't need to average 50. If he averages in the early 40's as an opener, he will be very useful for Pakistan over the next 5 years.

I don't know the exact stats but since South Africa, I am sure he is achieving that - and that includes a couple of tough tours.
