Pakistan finish on 126/5 at Stumps on rain-hit Day 1 of 2nd Test against England

I pity those people lacerating Shan Masood for getting out cheaply . . It really shows your personal dislike which you're furthering by using this dismissal than any kinda cricketing knowledge.

I have never claimed that Shan is or will become a good batsman . . he may always stay mediocre! Fair enough . . but the guy is coming off of 3 successive 100s . . the guy has the second highest average and the second most runs since coming back into the team! This surely isn't the time to get after Shan! He seems to be one of those players who can do whatever on the field but never win the approval of fans . .

People getting after him today shows more about them than Shan Masood's actual performance . .

Let's hope he continues to improve, and continues to get runs for Pakistan . . that's whats good for our cricket!

As for his dismissal today . . Sometimes, a decent bowler can get you out with the new ball in England!
Just go look at visiting openers average in England in the last 3 years!
Just go look at any openers average in England in the last 3 years!
Just go look at the record of the guy bowling with the new ball (probably the greatest of his generation) . . Best bowler in these conditions . . it's okay to get out to him early! He has done that to the best of them all . . don't use this dismissal to further your agenda against Shan! It doesn't look good . . What did you expect? He will score another 100? Or he will play out the new ball again? When was the last time we had such openers (let alone in this country) . .

Like I said, Shan may well finish his career with mediocre stats! But now is not the time to get after him . .

This is normal first session English first class cricket.

Batsmen just need to ride the plays and misses, and if you get to Lunch at 70-2 you are doing great.

Because they you should reach Tea at 160-3. The second new ball at 240-4 and the close at 260-5.

This isn’t a bowl first wicket. It’s a bat first and don’t panic wicket.

Agreed. Just worried we may see threads like Success got to his head. He was the single reason we were competitive in last test. Need to give him long run before any conclusions

Perfect opportunity for Fawad.

The green tinge on the wicket is already dying and this is going to be a lovely batting track.

And England have no bowlers with any pace. And the spinner is mediocre.

That fluke hundred is going to prove to be very costly as usual. Pakistani fans get excited very easily and fail to look at the bigger picture.

Masood never was and never will be good enough to score consistently at the highest level. You can work your backside off, but you will never excel at the highest level unless you have a lot of talent and he does not.

Hard work complements talent; it will never substitute talent.

Masood will never get his career average above 35.

Yep.

But but, he can speak great English.

Is it just me or Pakistani Batsmen are the nicest players in the world? They keep nodding their heads every time they are beaten by a good ball. I get that you should be respectful but you cant keep boosting the bowlers ego by egging him on with a nod!

Pretty concerning for Broad. Unless he has had asthma problems in the past.

He should test for Covid again

You joker.

Shan is the only player who plays the short ball comfortably in the country. He scored tough runs in SA also, so how was his 150 on that track a fluke?

This pair is negotiating highest quality of new ball bowling ..... then comes Woakes and Curran.

No he cant ... and Azhar hit a 200 in Australia. Every good player's average is good because of home conditions.

He hit 200 on the deadest wicket ever seen in Australia.

On which 15 wickets fell for 908 runs in the first four days.

Sohail Khan scored 65 and was run out.

Mitchell Starc scored 84.

That 200 was totally meaningless.

Only complete bozos failed on that track, like Misbah who managed less runs than Mohammad Amir and Sohail Khan.

Ollie Robinson is another England pacer who can bat a bit as well with a FC average of 21 and a FC 100 as well.

Alot of impatient posters on here, this is typically a opening morning of a test match. Jeez

We are a very reactionary bunch of fans I've noticed. One ball Abid plays and misses and there will be a flurry of comments ridiculing him, "can't play in SENA pitches", "won't be there for long". As soon as he hits a 4, posts start coming through saying how good he is looking, he'll score big today.

Pakistan should attack Curran here and not let him settle. He gets some good swing so they need to bat out of their crease and put him off his length etc.

Curran? Pakistan has by my count at least five superior left-arm quicks.

If you have Amir in the nets you have ZERO excuse for being dismissed by Sam Curran.

He scored 30s and 40s in South Africa and people were doing bhangra, which illustrates the point I am making.

A typical 10 innings period for Masood against a good attack looks like this, and that will not change in the future:

12, 0, 1, 32, 45, 27, 23, 70 or 100, 0, 1

He might play the short ball effectively but he is a dud against other types of deliveries, and once he gets figured out, he has nothing to fall back on.

Rob Key reports that the pitch didn’t look as dry as he was expecting – despite the scorchio temperatures we’ve had of late – but will become a belter for batting, so important that England make a few further in-roads in this morning session.

True. This guy Curran ran through Indian line-up couple of years back, which indeed suggests PAK should pick their net bowlers against India and Kohli, Rohit will start to shake .....

In comes the Pakistan destroyer....Chris Woakes.

Azhar has been out of nick for ages but if he and Abid can at least blunt the new ball until lunch that'll be a big help.

Yes but Shadab and Faheem are better batsmen than Kohli and Rohit but Misbah didn’t pick them...

Woakes the Pakistan destroyer and Curran the India destroyer. Perfect partnership for wickets galore 🤐🤐

Even in 2018 they won 2 of the 3 Tests in the British Isles by scoring more runs than Azhar and Shafiq.

Azhar’s top score was 50.
Shafiq’s top score was 62.
Faheem scored 83 in one innings!

Ha Ha .... funny and true. But on serious note, Shadab is shaping up to be a good all rounder. He is young, if we persist with him, at least in shorter format, I think he is a good option.

Curran makes the batsmen play every delivery. He will always find wickets. Same cannot he said about our much celebrated left-armers.

No rain till now, wont mind a shining sun destroying the predictions. :inti

This is a perfectly good scorecard after an hour.

Like at Old Trafford, Pakistan can get themselves into a strong position here.
