Pakistan finish on 126/5 at Stumps on rain-hit Day 1 of 2nd Test against England

Played out 85 balls on demanding conditions, then gets out in probably Anderson’s last over of spell (now it should extend). Azhar is finished actually- old Azhar would have stayed till tea at least after this.

His bowling analysis and expertise?

What do you get with Ramiz except for outlandish ideas and pathetic one-liners?
Analysis? The guy is clueless. Got his knickers into a twist when Athens (I think) asked him about whether Naseem was bowling from wider of the crease compared to previous games. Was quite a funny little debacle.

His commentary is limited to either reading the scorecard, the “I’ll tell you a story from my day”- taking all the focus away from the action at hand, and my personal favourite the, “I had a chat with him this morning” every time a Pakistani player does well.

Ramiz is a clown but Wasim is on another level of poor.

That's the big problem Pak always gives wicket in last of over of spell

I’ll take Ramiz over Wasim any day. Atleast Ramiz can be entertaining

You will get that in England, its early doors, have some faith.

I have faith but just saying should have bowled first they may stil get 250 but bowling first could have had England in trouble

Good captaincy from Root having 4 slips now for Abid after Azhar got out , and Abid is keep edging to the slips every now and then. this is how you apply pressure Azhar better learn by watching at least.

Eng needs stadiums with a roof at least for test cricket. :inti

What are you on about?

I distinctly remember Wasim in 2016 tour talking about how ENG is the best place when it comes to using the crease to your advantage (something that Woakes exploited that Summer) and how Amir is not bowling closer to the stumps since his comeback.

Not a single test without rain or a threat of rain in this English season of test cricket.

No it isnt good it's a bowling wicket first up it's not flat thiers swing and seem

Only two wickets in 34 overs and you think this is a Bowl First wicket?

I would have agreed if Pakistan was 35-7 at lunch.

The radar shows that it won't be a long spell of rain but I do not know how much time they will take to come back to the field.

Yes england dropped 2 catches and beat the bowl multiple times they had the majority of the luck

Test cricket in England is a spectacle but rain is a big spoilsport, effected the WC 19 as well big time.

Rain is forecast throughout the test. Doesn't matter if you bowl first or not, PAK pacers will get these conditions to bowl in too.

That what I am worried about ... English forecast is so inaccurate. We need to score a 350 here. Nowadays in england the weather is very strange. It is sunny and rain doesnt last for long, but they are playing in south so could be wrong.

Wonder how long this going to be ..... Wet and slow outfield with strong winds and swinging conditions. Even with Dom Bess, england still in favour.

just seeing the IK - Atherton interview during rain break. Athers questioning him about the dropping of Majid Khan despite him being cousin and hero of Imran.

Shame our management and captain don't have the bottle to drop players that deserve it.

Is there any chance of further play today? BBC weather doesn’t look promising for Southampton.

Shame our management and captain don't have the bottle to drop players that deserve it.

IK also pointed out the importance of a captain in cricket and how he leads the team on and off the field whereas other sports have a coach/manager who's in charge of the team's performance.

Rain has stopped and the storm has subsided. An inspection is taking place at 3:15pm, in just over 15 minutes.

The radar suggests that we might get an uninterrupted spell of cricket once we are back on till some time around 6. Let's see.

This sort of stop start will always favour bowling side - bowlers are getting rest in between, but batsmen will have to start all over again. Won’t be surprised if PAK loses a wicket or two just after restart.

Last time Fawad Alam played a test, Kohli, Smith, and Williamson weren't even Test cricketers. Now they all are in Fab 4!!

Yes. Rain always makes things tricky for batsmen.

I think Broad and Anderson may start another spell even though they just finished a spell.

Anderson dismissing batsmen most number of times in Tests:
11 - Peter Siddle
9 - M Clarke/ D Warner/ S Tendulkar
8 - S Watson/ Azhar Ali

Last game, Shan Masood got 2 reprieves and he went on to make a big score. Now Abid Ali gets two. Let's see what he does.

One has little confidence in bowling when Woakes and Jos played like that. This is a bat first wicket anyways

And please note - the CAPTAIN took that decision - nobody even remembers who the Head Coach or Chief Selector were!

Bowlers dismissing Azhar Ali most number of times in Tests:
10 - Rangana Herath
8 - James Anderson*
6 - Stuart Broad
5 - Chris Woakes

James Anderson has 592 Test wickets currently. Can he reach 600 wickets during this Test?

Precisely!

England bat deep and Pakistan bowling is inexperienced and inconsistent. One partnership by England will seal the game early for Pakistan

Yes they bat deep but thier middle order is vunrelable.pakistan strength is thier bowling

That’s always the case. No one cares about the selection committee in Misbah’s time either. He will be remembered for the line up he played/did not play etc.

Much prefer captains who are willing to fight the board even if it means shortening their tenures. At least then you have full accountability / responsibility for winning or losing.
