Pakistan finish on 126/5 at Stumps on rain-hit Day 1 of 2nd Test against England

Still have no idea why pak would bat in these conditions

The management at times are truely clueless

Feel like BA prefers the angle in from SC... doesn’t like holding his drive in against JA.

Abid Ali has scored a 60 which makes you wonder that is he good enough for SENA conditions. I personally think no and the commentators have picked his weakness is on the back-foot and shorter balls and his mode of dismissal was similar too.

Abid did his job. Azhar and Shan should’ve stayed there for a while.

30-40 runs from both would’ve made sure we weren’t 3 down before 150 runs.

Anderson has bowled 15 overs out of 39 overs and consistently bowling mid 80s at 38 years of age.

Babar playing some really poor shots. Needs to concentrate

This. We need appreciate that he has got us the runs on the board and the time that needed to be spent. SM and AA, not as much.

Waiting for another AS implosion...

Anderson is bowling a wonderful spell here. Things might be comfortable once he is out of the attack.

Since this is the final session, Pakistan can send in a nightwatchman (Yasir Shah) if they lose another wicket.

England do not have a quality spinner thou

If a wicket is a bit dry you also get to see uneven bounce and bit of reverse as the match progresses. Pak's 3rd innings batting in the first test match didnt instill much confidence as well.

That was a quality over from Anderson. Probably deserved a wicket.

Asad trying to get run out again?

I will take his 60 runs as a opener in current conditions...

BA just needs to play a few ugly innings to realise the importance of grinding. Just hates putting away his drive.

Maybe in his mind, his face off against Steyn in SA makes him feel he can go after it but I don’t feel so sure.

The conditions would be overcast throughout the match. Pakistan should try to score runs before they lose their wickets. Positive and aggressive cricket might take us around 300.

Azhar always the guy who bats for hours and 100 balls but gets u only 25-30 runs. He is not babar or an ordinary batsman who can score at least 50 runs if he bats 100 balls

Their professionalism and fitness levels are phenomenal.

England finally have a balanced all-round pace attack. It took them 5 tests to get there.

To think - each of Broad, Woakes and Curran have missed matches this summer not because they were resting but because Archer was picked over them. Apart from a few tail enders he has done nothing to justify those decisions.

England lost 1 of those matches, and almost lost the other one if it wasn't for Pakistan letting them off the hook in the last session of the previous match.

In the context of this match, these 60 runs will be important thanks to two drops by the English fielders. But it will haunt us more later. Abid is pretty good for flat decks though.

England are still reliant on Broad and Anderson just like their were reliant on likes of Strauss, Cook, Trott etc.

England haven't been able to find replacements for Broad and Anderson yet.

Pak should atleast draw the match considering the weather and everything.

Actually same applies for Shan.

We can afford only one grinder (max two grinders).

With Fawad Alam being in the side if I’m not wrong he is a grinder too. So I don’t know if we can score some quick runs.

Asad is running like crazy a person!
Is he scared of Sam Curran or that's just his plan!?

Babar must be patient. Conditions will ease, just see off this bit of pressure.

Yes and no. His weakness is blatantly clear now. At the same time, looks like an easier one to rectify than some others’.

If he works on it and gets it right, can spend the time and score the runs like he has been doing over his last 2 innings here, then won’t be easy to drop. Let’s see. Age not on his side of course, but let’s see.

Not sure if they will improve deastically given the forecast. At the same time, just feel he needs to play a few ugly innings. Aesthetics and all aside, just needs to store away his drive for a bit a la SRT’s 241.

It's embarrassing, you cannot tell whether a senior batsman has walked in or not.

Absolutely. Won’t forgive him for bottling the match at The Gabba where Pakistan needed only 30 runs to win whilst chasing 450+...

As soon as there is some pressure Asad goes missing.

Poor effort today so far by pakistan with the bat, needs atleast one of remaining batsmen now to get a big hundred

He seems to be nervous as always :))

Usual habit of Shafiq. Not the first time he's ran away like a chicken. He did this during Adelaide test when Pakistan toured Australia in 16/17. Amir was at the other end and instead of protecting him he was doing everything to get to the other end.

Shafiq is the biggest coward I've seen on a cricket pitch. But the most cowardly act I've ever witnessed was Misbah's 2011 Mohali knock.

On a side note I was watching highlights of Kohli’s batting in England yesterday and boy I was amazed... it is absolutely crazy how he turned the tides that summer.

Absolute matchwinner with a killer instinct.

Wish he was Pakistani.

I’m starting to think that Misbah wants everyone to become like Misbah himself.

That’s why he chooses players who are like Misbah :)

Haha lol, imagine BA getting the sack for not being Misbah-esque....

What a pathetic dismissal. Nothing special in the ball, just hung his bat outside

Deep footmarks are visible already. Is this a 1st day pitch? Is it because of the rain?

Boy will he be nervous. Cannot recall rooting for someone so much recently. InshAllah he does well now FA.
