With Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel standing unbeaten on Day 1, Pakistan will look to extend their recovery and build a commanding total on Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies at Multan Cricket Stadium. After a delayed start due to bad weather, Pakistan finished the opening day at 143-4 in 41.3 overs, with Rizwan (51*) and Shakeel (56*) holding the fort.

The pair came together at a critical moment, with Pakistan reeling at 46-4 after early dismissals. They forged an unbroken 97-run partnership for the fifth wicket, facing a total of 169 balls. Rizwan and Shakeel will now look to convert their starts into big scores on Day 2, setting a solid foundation for Pakistan’s innings.

The West Indies will need to make inroads quickly on Day 2 to stay in the contest, with pace bowler Jayden Seales and spinner Gudakesh Motie having proven effective on Day 1. Seales took three wickets, including the key dismissals of Babar Azam and Kamran Ghulam, while Motie removed Shan Masood in the early exchanges.

Pakistan’s middle order, including Rizwan and Shakeel, will look to consolidate and push the score past 200, while West Indies will be aiming to break the partnership and gain the upper hand.

Didn't watch a single ball today but after losing 4 wickets early on this is some fightback by Rizwan and Saud. Hopefully both can get centuries tomorrow, In sha Allah

Will fog spoil things daily? Only 41.3 overs were possible on Day 1.

If this persists, we may see a draw.

Rizwan played exceptionally well alongside Saud Shakeel, and both need to carry this momentum forward tomorrow. Hopefully, Rizwan doesn't retreat into a defensive shell.

Some of the dismissals man... it's a repeated issue with these guys. They just throw their wickets away.

Shan getting nicked down leg side, Kamran not offering a shot and getting LBW'd, this is why they continue to be an extremely poor batting side. Outside of Saud/Rizwan/Saud being consistent, it's just been a total mess for the top 4 and it's been an issue for quite sometime now.

if Pak score 300 here so they will win almost 80% of the game
You never know with Pakistan when they start a game as favourites. We experienced first hand against Bangladesh. If you can lose a test match after scoring 550 against a minnow. Then you can loose any test match.

Nope that time pak didn't had noman and sajid plus spinning tracks anything over 200 its game over for windies.

Anyone in the area? What the weather is supposed to be like for day two? I'm wondering if it's worth to stay up late at night too watch the first session or do you think first session play is not likely?

haha true... but here against WI they have recovered quite well.. i think above 250 would be a very good total

Pakistan should be looking to cross 250... it will be a good total on this pitch. Windies might struggle on this pitch when they come to bat

Things are not that great atm in Multan. We could haver another delayed start on Day 2.

Tea break : 2.55pm -3.15pm

3rd Session: 3.15pm - 5.30pm

98 overs to be bowled today.

West Indies don't have a quality spinner to backup Motie and it's hurting them here.

Nauman and Sajid work as a pair, which places a lot of pressure on these turning pitches.

Fastish darts with occasional turning ball will be hard to negotiate on this pitch. These guys are downright amateures. I believe guys like Mehidy hasan, Taijul would have bowled better.

He has scored a century in last series. We have to bear the burden of a deadbeat for couple of more series now...
Just letting you @DeadlyVenom posted stats for shan since he got captaincy.

I don't support shan by he has been Pakistan's 2nd best test batter statistically and overall Pakistan's 4th best test batter since he arrived.

He's comfortably behind agha and saud who don't have the numbers due to that aus series, have crucial knocks against England and now wi.

And he's behind rizwan statistically and genuinely as well.

But he been > Kamran, Babar, Hurraira, Abdullah, any one else for that matter.

Since he became he's been avg 37 with a 64 SR and scored 2 centuries. Again nothing revolutionary but not too bad either. It's very impressive for his standards.

I'd be more worried about babar azam who despite being the king has been outperformed by shan in every series since he became captain. That's outright embarrassing.

If shan is a dead weight( which i agree with) what does that make babar

Rizwan went for "comfort break" lol I don't think West Indies likes the drama from Rizwan. Frequently stopping bowlers on their run up.

Kinda wild to look through stats and see that Babar has 1 POTM award in his entire Test career.
Abdullah Shafique has 2 POTM awards in his short Test career so far as does Saud Shakeel. Their combined matches are 39 vs Babar's 57.

Speaks volumes IMO. The king of soft runs.

The amount of turn I see what is actually he pre-tea session of Day 1, if Riz can get a hundred here, PAK will win this Test effectively batting once. Suad got an unplayable one and he was actually unlucky to touch it - PAK has like 3.5 spinners. However, 350+ overs has to be bowled here, which is always a challenge in Nov-Jan Tests in PAK. Once WIN is under pressure, they'll start wasting time - max 6 hours will be possible, that's 27 hours X 12, that's like 300-325 overs - PAK should allocate at least 150 overs to get 20 wickets..... all it means, scoring rate in 1st innings needs to be faster.

babar has 8 centuries in 57 matches while abd has 5 in 22 matches

A bit unlucky for Salman there but he was also trying to play against the turn but yeah not an easy pitch to navigate. The slower flighted balls are turning a lot.

this was bound to happen..rizwan after playing every shot makes a reaction suggesting tehre is a run on..poor cricket all around..this could end quickly

The amount ball is turning, only way finger spinners can get LBW here is is they bowl round the wicket according to batsman. Incoming spin, hitting inside off line will miss leg by some margin while balls that can hit stick has to be bowled way outside off. Sajid bowling round the wicket will trouble WIN lefties.

There was never a run, but iz should have been loud & clear here; Nauman committed to early, too much.

very dumb cricket from rizwan ..sinclair was setting him up and in the end he gets his partner out and get out himself also..

Sinclair has 83 wickets in 30 First class games at 26 with just 2 fifers. Slightly better than a journeyman looking at the stat

Poor Windies cannot score more than 70 on this pitch in 4th innings.

It's an extremely tough surface to bat on.

Used to criticize India for doctoring pitches to this extent but the disease has now reached home

Indian pitches that had too much turn backfired. India won matches where pitch had a little bit of turn. Because Indian seamers like Shami, Umesh took a lot of wickets in india with reverse swing. It is not the pitch alone. It is the cricket ball that INida uses. If India uses SG ball on this pitch whole test will be over in 4 sessions.
