They should up the ante and try to score.

Defensive game will give Cummins options to attack and a collapse is always a possibility with this batting lineup

Pak fans in a situation where they want team to win but also knows in heart that if Pak wins, everything will be brushed under the carpet and same timid approach will continue in future. Lol

Here lies the issue, we could be scoring at a rate of 5 per over but as soon as Azhar comes in he will kill the scoring rate and momentum.

And then there's reverse swing to deal with.

Scoring 280 runs on last day won't be easy....Aussies should be kicking themselves if they don't end up winning

If pak strategize this properly, they have a massive chance to win.
Lyon is dud nowadays on 5th day, swepson is pathetic, green is bog average.
If they steadily milk these 3 guys , aus will be forced to overbowl cummins and starc and all pak have to do is see them out, they will burn out eventually.
If they are place at tea with minimum wicket loss and 175 to get, the chase is on as by them Aus would be dog tired. They have to play like a chess game, get singles and run aus ragged.

Coming in as a new batter and scoring fast is hard. Even against the pies that Pakistani spinners bowled.

Aussies tried to go for 4.5rpo but it was hard.

Asad Shafiq scored more runs than Jack Kallis in the 2013 series in South Africa. It doesn’t mean he is a better batsman.

I can give you millions of other examples.

Zampa is miles better than Shadab.

Target is not stiff with so many overs, but that's Aus. Even if they lose when trying to win, they will go for it. They did not want 0-0 out of this series.
 
Aus can lose here lol ,what kind of declaration was that?

175 in last session? that means only scoring 120 in 1st two sessions?

if we play positive cricket 2.7 to 3 runs per session isnt hard.
 
I agree but atleast try. Wickets were in hand. I am sure they could have hit nauman for a few more sixes

I don't think we will see a draw in this game. It will be either Aus or Pak win here. 260-270 runs on the last day do not need to bat fast.

There is nothing wrong in sending up their tailenders who can hit ahead of guys that are out of form and confidence

Exactly - 75-90 per session for the first two is a good target. The Aussies will be rattled by then and Pakistan are no more than 2 down

I was referring to the defensive approach of whole Pakistan cricket including management, players, coach everyone displayed in this series.
Management preparing patta pitches and chairman going on air accepting that. Batsmen not showing any intent to win at all, which every team does in home series. The only reason we can have a result in this series will be due to Aus playing for win by declaring early and dangling the carrot.
No one will take credit away from Pak batsmen if they win this match. But no one can deny they were timid whole time from day one of this series.

But it's okay if you guys are happy to continue the same in future.

yes, why not? if someone plays like che pu in gabba test 2021 , draws the sting out tires the bowlers and the others bat around him and attack when they are tired, no reason why they cant chase. Thats why i said - if they look for singles, play the ball on its merit and play out starc and cummins with no risks, they can run aus ragged.

1 nightwatchmen - azhar

your not going to score 175 runs in a session. if we get to last session tomorrow then 120 would be max to chase and even thats an ask with this team.

There is nothing wrong in sending up Sajid and Hassan before Fawad with the plan of attacking the Bowlers and hoping for a cameo to pull off. These boys are hopeless when they are trying to defend the ball as it is.
 
Pak should award Smith at the end of series for keeping them in contest. Lol
 
Why does Smith still field at slip position? He has been dropping catches over and over.
 
Smith's drop makes Pakistan a huge favorite on the last day. All 10 wickets in hands and the target is not stiff. Just need to bat normally and Pakistan will get those runs.
 
Great strategy by Pak yesterday to collapse and give away wickets to give Aus false sense of security luring them into the aggressive declaration.

I will mostly worry about reverse and not spinners. As long as Pakistan can counter reverse, I think Pakistan will win from here.
 
Pakistan's game to lose now.
Cummins must be ruing now for early declaration or the slow batting once the lead was 250+.
Australia needed one or two batsmen to score fifty at 80-90 SR.
Target of 400 and Pak batsmen would've gone into survival mode.

I remember an Ashes Test over 20 years ago when Gilchrist stand in captain declared ( bold declaration) and leaving Englsnd chasing 313. Mark Butcher scored 170+ and won the match.

I have rarely seen him running through sides to win a series in Asia. He is surely a threat, but I think the reverse is the main one here. Even tails can get some runs against Lyon, but I don't see them surviving reverse. Top-order needs to see off reverse here and the game is more than half won.

For this very reason Azhar should drop to no8 in the order. He can block to his heart’s content if we go 6 down
 
There should only be two results tomorrow either a Aussie or Pak win. A draw would be should a negative approach and will show the mindset of the captain.
