Pakistan Under 19s v West Indies Under 19s | World Cup | Palmerston North| 15/1/2010

I remember Saj Bhai once mentioned Raza Hasan name somewhere and said remember his name. So far in this game he has a great econ rate

The only reason Ahmed is not in team because Salman butt is a magician with ball in hand

233/7 in 43.2 Overs
Run Rate: 5.38

This may be a closer finish than we think.

Pakistan win by 40 runs.

Good fight back after the initial onslaught by the Windies openers. At least something to look forward to.

Well done.

Usman Qadir seems like a special bowler. He slowed them down by taking crucial wickets. Our fast bowling attack looks mediocre which is saying something considering that's our strong point in cricket.

Real impressive performance by Babar and Hasan as well.

Babar is gonna move up fast, what a talent.

no real good prospect as far bowling is concern as every body knows that there are plenty of bowlers so may be is the reason

Congrats for the win although I suspect that we can win the worldcup with these pacers.

Who are the good pacers in this team though?

Prior WC teams...we have had some good pacers coming through..but in this team I don't see any "extraordinary pacer" for this level..like prior..

COngrats to all of you. Pak won it with ease. i looked at the scorecard and the only player i know is Ahmed Shehzad and one or two more but where are the other fast bowlers. isnt talha 19 years old. shouldnt he be playing and what about M.irfan. this bowling attack looks weak apart from the spinners. so thats a concern mate. saw few overs of afghanistan team batting and all they did was block as it was first few overs. so hope pak win this one and gets success.

Talha is 20-21..and Mohammad Irfan is 25-27 I think..

but why isn't Adil Raza in this squad..the guy was suppose to be like "Asifique" bowler..

bro this was the first group match..I think they have to win one more to go on to the next stage

Didnt we win the first game against another team with Babur scoring is first 100 of tournament?

Babar Azam made 120 runs and bowled 10 overs with good econ and 2 wickets.. This guy is crazy good.

good win but kaleem sana needs to come in for Bhatti, we may as well play the specialist fast bowler instead of trying out a part timer like bhatti to open the bowling. It means Qadir has to bat at 7, but given that we have a strong lineup ahead of him that should be fine.

key game is Bangladesh, they are a strong side and if we beat them in all probability we avoid India in the Quarters.

Abdul Ameer will be the quickest bowler of the tournament but he lacks intelligence and a bowling mind.

Dominant Babar stifles West Indies

Dominant Babar stifles West Indies

An all-round performance from Pakistan opener Muhammad Babar Azam has given Pakistan a solid win over the West Indies in their opening ICC U19 CWC game on a windswept Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North.

Pakistan set up its winning total after West Indies won the toss and put Pakistan into bat. The side made the most of a reasonably flat pitch to post 297, with Babar scoring 129 runs off 132 balls including 14 fours and a six. He brought up his hundred from 110 balls, regular hitting boundaries to maintain the run-rate. Babar also combined with captain Azeem Ghumman, the next highest scorer with 49, to put on a 224 run partnership for the third wicket.

The West Indies were energetic in the field but their bowling was not tight enough through the middle overs to put pressure on the Pakistan batsmen. Pakistan lost a few late wickets with two run-outs, including Babar, but some late hitting from Hammad Azam, scoring 28 off 15 balls, helped boost the score to 297 for seven.

Left-arm off-spinner Jomel Warrican was the pick of the West Indian bowlers with three for 63. Jason Holder also chipped in with two for 50.

The West Indies started their run chase extremely well thanks to an entertaining and aggressive knock from Trevon Griffith who hit 84 off 55 balls, who launched the run rate past 12 runs per over. Griffith was especially punishing of the quicker bowlers, despatching them to all parts of the ground.

The picture changed dramatically, however, with the onset of the Pakistan slow bowlers, who kept a tight rein on the West Indies batsmen, making it very difficult to score quickly. With the West Indies onslaught halted the pursuit of 298 fell apart, and only opener Kraigg Braithwaite was able to offer late resistance, being stranded on 92 not out at the end of the innings.

Ahmad Shahzad was the best of the Pakistan bowlers with three for 43 from seven overs, while Babar backed up his batting performance with an impressive return of three for 35 from ten overs.

Bring that Bilawal Bhutto from Sialkot guy,we need a decent pacer

What is so special about Bilawal Bhatti? I mean I am hearing for couple of days about him being another pace sensation.

A quick question: What happens to all this talent once they get a bit older? They just seem to vanish into thin air?

Lost in the system.

Don't have the backing that some other players have political or otherwise.

Turns out they weren't actually that good to begin with.

Not nurtured properly.

So many reason Keith, so many. :)

They never get selected in-spite performing season after season

All this story about Sana reminds me of the last U19 WC:

Mohammad Aamer was our best bowler and he got unwell and admitted to a hospital and then sent back. Now Sana is injured and sent back to Pakistan.

If this means that we have found a new Mohammad Aamer then I am more than happy.

On a serious note I hope his injury isn't serious and we wish him good luck.

Seems like a brilliant all round performance from Muhammad Babar

Hopefully he will continue to score runs - we need as many decent batsmen as we can find

Well Played boys! Great way to start the campaign. Babar Azam seems like a gem of a player. I really hope he can develop nicely and isnt 'lost' in the system.
Good Luck U19s for the coming matches. Inshallah we can regain the trophy!

Babar is very good player, i also heard that his fielding is very good.

Please dont expect much from his bowling anymore !! He's just a parttimer.
