And also no :hafeez to bowl to left hander :misbah

He was the weakest link in our squad. don't just judge based on the last test. Actually it was Rahat and Yasir shah who got out most of the left handers.

Prof's performance against Aust both with the bowl and bat was horrible :hafeez

In last few series Pakistan has amassed huge totals. It wasnt really tested by huge or decent score of the opponent. Can today be that day?

We have enough bowlers who are good with the old ball but new ball skills have been terribly lacking.

So how do you rate Ehsan's new ball skills??

In these conditions you should be good with old ball to be consistently effective

Messi needs to develop a googly and a slider. Always useful when the batsman is stuck on the backfoot looking to play for spin.

He's clearly much better than all our current pacers barring Rahat when it comes to new ball skills and I think he can be really useful in England, NZ and SA. Gets good bounce as well.

Hurrah, Australasia's first session in the UAE Convict :)

I'm happy with the session, expecting us to collapse next session - KW and Taylor are out of touch, they will struggle here.

Need 3/4 wickets in the next session.

Pitch showing some life in the last few overs.

Flipper is not particularly useful on a day 1/2, but can be a lethal option when the pitch is gripping.

Needless wicket gifted otherwise a long partnership would have tired bowlers here. Pakistan has only 4 bowlers. If NZ can manage to not lose any wicket in the first hour after the lunch then Pakistan will again feel bit deflated. NZ simply needs to bat sensibly because wicket is not turning much right now.

I like the look of this Ehsan guy. He has very good discipline and I think a defensive captain like Misbah will enjoy having him at his disposal. Add to that, he is tall and has seemed to have really improved his pace from the last time I saw him.

Looks like a promising young bowler that should have been given more chances in the last year or so.

2nd session holds the key here ...

He is only what 21-22... So he still has a lot of time to show case his skills. Seems a good prospect none the less..

Watching Adil today, he has a case for the World Cup. He's tall, good pace, and can get the ball to swing. He's got good discipline, and control. He's a smart bowler, knows what to do, looked classes above Rahat in that respect. Irfan, Ehsan and Wahab will be a pretty good pace attack IMO.

Don't want to watch this session, have a bad feeling about it.

Nz going well , pakistan need to chip in with two quick wickets.
Only a matter of time before we gift you a few more. You need to bowl great balls or jaffas on this road to get wickets, the chances of which are quite low on this wicket.

Latham really has a lot of subcontinental batting features about him, good find for NZ

A little bit of reverse swing starting to happen

For people who know a little more about Ehsan Adil, can he reverse the ball?

It's what remains to be seen about him. He needs to be brought on soon. I reckon he will get some reverse at the pace he's bowling.

The best thing about ehsan adil I like is wicket to wicket stuff , so any movement from the pitch or in the air can prove crucial.

Big big opportunity for NZ to get Pakistan now, if the throw wicket yet again in this session it will be bad.

Mamoon what are your thoughts on Ehsan so far?

Looks very good. Decent pace, great wrist position and jags the ball around and gets good bounce because of his height. Should be a permanent part of our Test XI and replace Anwar Ali at number 8 in ODIs.

Yeah. He always gets the batsman to play. He seems to get a little bit of shape outwards, but also shapes it inwards at times. He'll be very good in Aus, Nz, Sa and Eng.

Williamson needs to be attacked more. He hasn't looked convincing so far but he's a quality player and could get a big hundred if he gets his eye in.

I'd take Wahab, Irfan and Adil to the World Cup as the first choice pace attack.

Agreed. I've heard he can bat too. I'd like to see him on the plane the Australia/NZ. An attack with Ehsan, Irfan and Wahab will be pretty good IMO. I really hope he's called up for the ODIs ahead of Tanvir/Gul.

Gul is past his prime but I fear he will be recalled for the World Cup by the selectors because of his experience. I'm pretty certain of it. Junaid's injury is not looking good at all so there is an opening for Ehsan.

Anwar Ali will probably get the NZ ODIs and if he continues to bowl poorly, he will be in trouble with Bhatti, Ehsan and Tanvir breathing on his neck.

For the first time in last 4 tests it looks like Pakistan will be tested. Koi tou thore runs banao, thoda maza shaza aye.

Junaid shouldn't be considered for the World Cup even if he is fit in time. He won't have enough match practice to come straight back into a World Cup. I'd pick Ehsan, he's a better option than Junaid in any case. But this is Pakistan, Gul and Tanvir are somehow going to be on that flight to Adelaide
