As the Lahore leg of the 2024 Pakistan Super League draws to a close, anticipation mounts for the clash between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United at the iconic Gadaffi Stadium, marking match number 13 of the tournament. Peshawar holds a significant advantage over Islamabad, having emerged victorious in three of their last five encounters.

Under the leadership of Shadab Khan, United commenced the season with a resounding triumph on opening night against the defending champions. However, subsequent back-to-back defeats have relegated them to the lower half of the standings. Despite Shadab Khan's exemplary all-round performance, bolstered by contributions from Agha Salman, the team has grappled with inconsistency, particularly evident in the underwhelming performances of Colin Munro, Alex Hales, and Azam Khan. Their bowling lineup, spearheaded by Naseem Shah and Tymal Mills, has shown glimpses of form, but the lack of effectiveness from Imad Wasim has proved detrimental, allowing opponents to amass formidable totals.

Conversely, Peshawar Zalmi endured a shaky start to the season with two initial losses before orchestrating a turnaround with two consecutive victories. Their resurgence hinges heavily on the contributions of the reliable Babar Azam and the explosive duo of Saim Ayub and Rovman Powell, who have shouldered the bulk of the batting responsibilities. While Luke Wood and Salman Irshad have performed credibly with the ball, Afghan sensation Naveen-ul-Haq is yet to hit his stride, relying on the support of Arif Yaqoob and Paul Walter in the bowling department. With both teams vying for crucial points, the stage is set for a riveting encounter, promising a spectacle of thrilling cricketing action at its finest.

Who will win the game tonight?

Not much rest for Peshawar eh. Islamabad need a win badly to stay relavent in the PSL.
Who would have thought IU would be struggling this much with the strong squad they have

I predict a win for IU today.

TOSS UPDATE

Islamabad United won the toss and chose to bowl first

Peshawar Zalmi remains unchanged. Islamabad United introduces Haider Ali and Tymal Mills in place of Alex Hales and Rumman Raees.

Babar has to set a foundation and then hit big by 10th over or get out trying. He cant hang around till 15th or 16th over and then get out not able to accelerate

Look at the difference between how Salman Agha bowled in the PP compared to Imad.

Salman Agha makes my XI for the t20 WC.

It looks like Imad has lost interest in cricket. Dont see any energy or motivation from him anymore. He needs a good performance to get back into rhythm

I wonder if Darren Sammy encourages Babar to play more aggressively and at a higher SR. He should to be honest.

Maybe he does. But Babar doesn't respond

Saim Ayub has shown more than enough that he should be persisted as opener.

We can’t get disencouraged when he fails.

Even if he blanks 10 innings in a row we should persist with Saim in the national team.

Agreed. He should be playing all T20's leading up to the world cup. If he continues a bad run of form prior to the world cup then maybe we warrants a drop, otherwise he needs to be in the team to boost Pakistan's chances of winning.

After playing so well, Saim Ayub totally misread the line of the ball

This is the perfect game scenario for Babar. He can play the anchor role very well and scoring at a high but not explosive rate.

Or as an opener.
Not sure if he would succeed there also, he has visible weakness against spin. Teams would opt for spin to trap him. The other problem is Pak is flooded with openers atm. Fakhar, Farhan already strong contenders in case Rizwan-Saim fails.

That review indicates Shadab is still a crap player, we should not fall for his fluke performances.

Babar 49 off 39 again on a road, having faced 18 powerplay deliveries

Babar Azam delivers once again with another crucial fifty, providing much-needed stability for Peshawar. Their score now stands at 114-3 after 13 overs. Can he lead Peshawar to a strong finish?

Not getting enough support from
other end. Saim, Haris and Haseeb got out cheaply.

Its everyone's job to hit sixes but not Babars
You could say that yesterday but today the match situation is different. It makes sense for one batsmen to hold down the fort.

But have to go for the big hits after the 16th over on both ends

Haris & Ayub are walking wickets if they can’t score in these circus leagues international bowlers will eat em alive.

Long live Babar & Rizwans 35/0 of 5 overs

Biggest fraud in T20 cricket alongside Rizwan and there are people defending this rubbish approach!

You just stay on the one note criticism.

Ultimately, batsmen have to bat according to the match situation. Cant keep swinging blindly if 5 players are down on the other end.

Babar cant hit big, and that's a well established fact but , if he can score at SR 130+ while the other end keeps up the tempo that's fine. The problem was a situation like yesterday, where he was taking up the strike while no wickets had fallen.

Marina Iqbal "he sets the bar so high that he is always disappointed missing out on boundaries"

Is this a cricket game or SNL skit

Been out there for 45 balls (8 overs)

still cant keep his shape to hit a six!

72 off 50

RVD hit 100 off 52 balls yesterday batting at 3

this guy Babar lol

Looks like shuffling outside and lapping it down leg side is a new shot for Babar. Hard to recall him using it before and he's done it couple of times now. Good to see him trying to add more range to his shots.

oof Hunain taken to the cleaners by Babar. Massive over and still one more to go.

Babar batting during that over was the most fun I had watching him bat for a long time.

It’s actually hilarious how people with zero cricketing knowledge get shown up time and time again lol.

Honestly if it was me getting everything wrong constantly I would have logged out of PP years ago. I don’t know how they bear the constant embarrassment.
