Mohammad Zeeshan, the Pakistan rising star from under 19 team squad joins Peshawar Zalmi. A great addition for PZ team. 👏👏

Peshawar Zalmi has selected Noor Ahmad in the Platinum category. This shows the intentions with which they are coming to PSL 9.

Should have gone with more all-rounders, but overall, it's still a decent squad. I hope they don't play with long tail yet again, as it led to our downfall last year.

Good squad

All they need now is a good captain to make this work for them

Saim
Mo Haris
TKC
Asif Ali
Haseebullah

Zalmi look like they will be the most fun to watch. They just need anyone but Babar as captain.

Any team with Babar as captain will struggle.

People should look out for Daniel Mousley.

He is a talented youngster. Scored a 100 in U19 WC Final back in 2019-20. Bats left handed, can strike the ball and bowls off spin too. He may very well be a breakout English player in PSL. Just like Harry Brook did for Lahore in PSL 7.

He will breakout and then never return to PSL once he is 38 years old

Squad looks pretty strong and might be the strongest. Batting is great and bowling seems improved from last season or at least will have more options for Babar to work with. If bowling clicks at all... watch out.

Possible XI
Babar Azam
Saim Ayub
Muhammad Harris
Tom K-Cadmore
Rovman Powell
Asif Ali
Aamir Jamal
Naveen ul Haq
Salman Irshad
Noor Ahmad
Muhammad Zeeshan

Read somewhere Naveen has been banned for 20 months due to a breach in some contract….

PZ might have to find a replacement if Lungi isn’t fully available

The bond between Darren Sammy and Peshawar Zalmi is truly unbreakable.

Daren Sammy has been appointed as the Head Coach of Peshawar Zalmi for Pakistan Super League Season 9.

Peshawar Zalmi Chairman Javed Afridi said that Daren Sammy is not only integral part of Zalmi Family from Day one of Pakistan Super League but also played vital role in reviving International Cricket in Pakistan & he once again welcome Sammy in Zalmi Family and PSL 9.

Daren Sammy said in his message that he is happy once again to be associated with Peshawar Zalmi,: “Peshawar Zalmi is my family and im super excited for PSL Season 9.” Darren Sammy said that as captain for Peshawar Zalmi, Winning the trophy of PSL 2 is one of the happy memories & now he is hopefull hope that the team will perform well in coming Pakistan Super League Season 9 as well.

The tactician, Daren Sammy is all set to lead his men in yellow to their second championship title

Darren Sammy, a two-time World T20 winner for West Indies, is considered the greatest captain in the T20 format.

In a significant setback for Peshawar Zalmi, South African pacer Lungi Ngidi is likely to miss the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 due to delays in obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket South Africa.

Ngidi's ongoing fitness concerns are cited as the cause behind the NOC delay. With the PSL 9 Draft already including Ngidi in Peshawar Zalmi's roster, the franchise may look for a replacement in the upcoming supplementary and replacement draft scheduled for January 29.

PSL Nine Supplementary and Replacement Players announced

Peshawar Zalmi, announcing their replacements, drafted Waqar Salamkheil in the silver category for Lungi Ngidi, who was not available for the whole season after being picked in the HBL PSL Draft in December. Fast bowler Khurram Shahzad will be partially available, with pacer Arshad Iqbal named as his replacement in silver category. Gus Atkinson is set to replace Noor Ahmed, who is not available to Peshawar Zalmi due to international commitments. Meanwhile, they have reserved their pick for the replacement of partially available Naveen ul Haq.

Waqar Salamkheil is an excellent pick. Lahore Qalandars should have been the ones in for him considering they need someone to bowl Rashid Khan’s overs

The hero of West Indies in the Test series (2024) against Australia , Shamar Joseph has joined Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 9.

Good signing. This year's PSL draft was held at a pathetic time. Did no favors to lift PSL. PSL's build up has been boring this year again with no "big guns". Think PSL peaked in 2019.

To be totally transparent as a Pakistani fan, when our guys get lured into T20 franchises, it hurts. But to learn about Shamar Joseph joining PSL, it's really great news.

Peshawar Zalmi carries the burden of expectations of millions from the battle-hardened province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), for who cricket has become a source of identity, pride and joy.

The Pashto word Zalmi – translating to youth – holds a profound meaning in the rich cultural tapestry of the region. This essence is encapsulated in their logo as well, with the turban standing tall as a significant symbol. Javed Afridi, the owner of the franchise, had a clear vision; an aim to bring back joy to the people of Pakistan especially to the province of KP.

“Owning a cricket team, especially Peshawar Zalmi, transcended the realm of a business venture for me; it was a profound calling fueled by an unwavering love for the sport and a sincere concern for the state of cricket in Pakistan,” Javed recalled.

Peshawar Zalmi began their PSL journey on a high note when the Shahid Afridi-led team reached the play-offs of the inaugural season, played in 2016. Daren Sammy – then West Indian skipper and reigning T20 World Cup champion, was part of Zalmi’s squad. Since then, Sammy has been staunchly attached to the franchise, while matching Zalmi’s zeal to bring back international cricket in Pakistan.

The second edition of the League saw Zalmi win the final, played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With Shahid not available due to injury, Sammy led Peshawar to a 58-run victory against Quetta Gladiators.

The title wasn't just a triumph for Peshawar Zalmi; it unfolded as a grand victory echoing through the streets and hearts of the entire city and its resilient people. Fans of the Peshawar-based franchise revelled in the joy of seeing their own team play and clinch the first-ever title on home soil.

“Peshawar, like many regions, had faced its fair share of challenges, compounded by a notable dearth of entertainment options for its residents. The significance of bringing home the title surpassed the realm of a mere cricketing achievement; it became a unifying force that reverberated across the entire Pashtun community and beyond,” Javed shared.

Determined to help expand the sport at a higher level, the franchise has also reached out to cricketers from lesser known cricketing territories such as China by roping in a couple of budding Chinese cricketers and providing them with the feel of the game and atmosphere to help develop the talent.

“Global Zalmi, our flagship initiative, stands at the forefront of our global aspirations. With 32 registered cricket clubs worldwide, this dynamic expression of our commitment to cricket's global growth is a testament to our dedication. As a future plan, we aim to expand this network to all continents,” he highlighted.

In the subsequent season, Zalmi’s impressive form continued and carried them to their second consecutive final. The side ended as runners-up against Islamabad United, who clinched their second title.

In 2019, Peshawar Zalmi played their third consecutive final; this time losing to Quetta Gladiators.

Zalmi struggled in the fifth edition of the League – played in 2020 and impacted by COVID – and finished at fourth place. In the following year, they bounced back and qualified for their fourth final although Multan Sultans clinched the title at the end.

The seventh edition of HBL PSL saw a different Peshawar Zalmi emerge under Sammy as the head coach. With six wins in the tournament, the team finished at third position. The following year, Babar Azam – Pakistan’s premier batter – joined the franchise to lead Peshawar Zalmi to the play-offs where they lost to defending champions Lahore Qalandars and missed out on a berth in the final.

In the past eight editions of the HBL PSL, Peshawar Zalmi hold the best record as they have featured in four finals and have at least reached the play-offs on every other occasion. They aim to exhibit their best in future seasons as well, while also looking forward to playing at their home turf one day.

“The plan on our horizon is to continue amassing titles, not merely as a testament to our cricketing prowess but as a promise to the people of Peshawar who eagerly await to see their favorite players in action on their home ground,” Javed concluded.

Paul Walter's comments in his post match conference yesterday:

(On playing with PZ) Yeah, it was amazing. Tough start for me in the couple (of matches). Wasn't playing so, watching the wickets. It's definitely a tough place to bowl and just loves to learn and would try to get better as the competition goes on.

Even after the brilliant bowling spells by Saim Ayub, Peshawar Zalmi spin department has recorded the worst average in the history of the PSL.
