Younis really getting into sohail khan here. 3 boundaries on the trot. Sohail, credit to him, responds with a couple of quick bouncers.

Great over by Anwar ali; really troubled younis there. Set him up with a couple of inswingers before bowling a beautiful away-cutter that got the edge and went for 4. Unlucky.

I had one of those Pakistani afternoon naps so I missed the end. Anyone know of the score?

I sent an e-mail to cricinfo about their lack of coverage here and got a reply from Osman Samiuddin.

We were scheduled to cover most matches in the Pentangular this season (not all) for the first time ever with bbb and session by session bulletins, but the plan fell through at the last minute because of some problems with staff.
I can understand your disappointment because I am equally, if not more disappointed myself.
What we are planning to do from next season is to cover all Quaid trophy matches as well as the Pentang, ball by ball as well as proper match coverage for important games like the semis and the finals.
We made a start this season by covering the Quaid trophy final and we plan to increase this coverage next season.
As to what else has been rubbish about our coverage of Pakistan cricket, I'd like to know please.
Thanks for your mail,
Regards,

Osman Samiuddin

YK seems to have a knack of scoring heavily in 2nd inns of recent matches.

who got the 3 nwfp wkts in the 2nd innings?

Anwar Ali got two. Not sure who got the other but it wasn't Sohail Khan (even though he was bowling well when I was watching)

Did you actually say their coverage was 'rubbish'?

Hash your a legend :19:

Yes I did.

I regret it now though because I've just had a couple of e-mails from Osman Samiuddin and he has put things into perspective for me. He's actually quite a nice chap and has to pretty much run the Pakistan section of cricinfo by himself.

hameed has a big problem in his technique he falls over and is a big candidate for lbw

don't mess with the pathans...those traitors playing for sindh are getting a good woopin.....younus khan is a legend

J_essense the ones playing for NWFP are pashtuns not patahans big difference 85% of the people living in Frontier and Afghan call themselves Pathans but are not, diffrent thing. Speaking Pushtu or Calling your self a khan doest make anybody a Pathan, Monglian may be not a Pathan atleast that what my Grand father used to tell me

man i am lost...lol..sorry but yara i thought pashtun, pathan, pukhtoon are all the same thing? here is the deal with being a pathan, and its very simple from what i know. technically all you need is to be able to speek pashto and follow the code of conducts of pukhtoonwali to be considered a pathan. now technically you could be born a punjaabi but if you practice the mentioned two things, you are a true pathan. now if a pathan moves to the US for examples and loose all his/her values of pukhtoonwali, then you can technically be born from pukhtoon parents but will not have what it takes to be a pathan. so pathan is technically more of state of being and being a part of pathan tribe sorta guarantees 99% of the time that they will all speak pashto and follow pukhtoonwali code of conduct. so you may be right abt people people calling themselves pathans but in reallity don't qualify to be one....here is a what a pukhtoon poet says abt being pathan...

Pathan is not merely a race but, in fact, a state of mind; there is a Pathan lying in side every man, who at times wakes up and overpowers him" BY ABDUL GHANI KHAN

off topic...oooooi am in trouble :P

Osman's a good lad and as he said in his e-mail I'm sure he's just as
disappointed as us that there's no coverage of the Pentangular games!!

After watching 2nd day highlightes I made following observations:

1) Anwar Ali is not an allrounder at all but his bowling seems to have improved and now he has the ability to bowl outswing.

2) Naumanullah shuffles right infront of stumps and would be a very good candidate for LBW.

3) Younis was more active while on the field than Afridi and plannned Afridi's wicket.

4) Yasir Hameed is still CRAP.

5) Wasti needs to go on a diet ASAP

6) Shakeel is pretty decent he swings the bowl both ways and bowls on a good length.

7) Both Kaneria and Afridi were horrendous with the ball.

8) Sarfraz can hold his own in batting.

9) The bounce on the pitch is dying with ever over.

10) Finally but most importantly Sohail Khan is very good with reverse swing!!!!

Somebody needs to upload these God damn highlights for people who have no access to coverage!

Watched both Sohail and Anwar today. Anwar Ali's inswing is still immense, while Sohail Khan's reverse swing really is substantial. These two have great potential, and our selectors are buffoons for not giving these guys enough chances. I would have these two in my team any day over the likes of Niazi, Rao, etc.

one thing to notice about Sohail Khan's reverse swing is that the conditions and geographical location of Karachi was ideal for R-swing bowling.

Let me correct you, NWFP People are PUKHTOONS and NOT PUSHTOONS. PUSHTOONS are the ones who belong to Baluchistan. Pathan is the word given by the foreigners to Pukhtoons and it doesn't exist in the Pukhto Dictionary.

For those of us who dotn have GEO, cant someone record these highlights!

NWFP 154/4. Wasti is out. Sohail Khan is bowling and getting impressive swing.

Agree with all of those. Watching Anwar Ali today and he looks just as impressive. His outswinger is quite deceptive, he bowls with good pace (looks around 84-86), gets decent bounce, and is generally quite aggressive. He should have a bright future.

Osman's a really cool guy. He's laid- back, down to earth, knows his cricket, and understands the system in Pakistan. He's a great representative for Pakistani cricket journalism.

Zeenix exactly Pathan is a different tribe altogether, most Pukthoons as you call it are not Pathans, that is factually wrong

NWFP 188/5. Adnan Raees out. c khurram manzoor b kaneria. it was a googly that he tried to hit over mid wicket but got an edge toward mid off.

century for Younis by hitting three consecutive boundaries off Kaneria.

Congratulations to the flat track bully Younis Khan for making a 100.

Considering both teams struggles to get runs in the first innings I dont know how you can call him a flat track bully

I was being sarcastic. Younis is actually one of my favourite players.

Well done again YK.
He is easily the 2nd best batsman Pakistan has but still get hate from many Ppers for being in the team.
I guess some people just can't get over his captaincy thing.

I think no one questions his Test performance. A few people are just pissed at his ODI performances.

No. People question his test performances as well.

'yasserkhan' or whatever his name is.

Sreesanth must be on verge of some kind of a world record here.

3 overs for 47!!

I guess he forgot to warn SL that they should be scared of him :D

Excellent delivery by Afridi to dismiss Younis. Floater that pitched and went with the arm, catching Younis on the crease and in line with the stumps. End of a fabulous innings by Younis. 111 classy runs. N.W.F.P: 228-6. With the 1st innings lead, that amounts to 282-6.

Should be a good chase.

whats Afridi's bowling figures Shiekh bhai

thanks...it will be interesting to see if they go with him or Y Arafat .
Little confused here. By ''they'' do you mean the pakistan team? If so, then in what role? Afridi as the lone spinner, batting at 7? Arafat as the 3rd seamer batting at 8? What position are they fighting for?

I suspect for the 5th bowler's spot

Kuptaan sahib will assume the 5th bowler's role and bat at 6. Here's the team:

Butt
Opener
Younis
Yousuf
Misbah
Malik
Akmal
Pacer

I am ok with that team as long as Kaptaan sahib is willing to bowl at least 10-12 overs a day.

This should still be a good team as long as all 3 pacers are specialist fast bowlers. I suspect they would want to squeeze in Arafat as the third pacer if one of Akhtar, Asif, or Gul is unfit.

malik is just hopeless at 6.

the only place he can play in a test is as opener.

we need that 6 spot for a real allrounder or a real specialist batsman.

Sarfaraz is a bundle of energy behind the stumps. He runs from one end to the other between the overs. Looking quite comfortable keeping to Danish and Afridi.

Saw him fumble a few against Sohail khan that came to him fast and swinging. That's a little worrying; you'd want akmals competitor to be as safe as a house behind the stumps.

Danish picks up the last 2 and finishes up with a 5-for.

309 to win for Sindh.

Come on!

the true passionist said:
Who has been the better spinner no just in terms of stats but in terms of threat to the batsmen?

Afridi or Kaneria
Well, Danish has had a lot more bowling to do than Afridi so I've seen more of him. Danish troubled all the batsmen (bar younis) and the tail especially had no idea against him. He didn't bowl many long hops and was generally quite consistent, though he did bowl too many doosras for my liking.

Afridi bowled like his usual self, mixing things up, and attacking the batsmen. Difference is that he used himself as the 5th bowler whereas Danish, along with Sohail and Anwar, was used as a frontline bowler.

Sindh: 21-0

Khalid latif actually gets a boundary through the off side...with no foot movement whatsoever.
