So the semi-finalists of the SLPL 2012 have already been decided, but this game between Uva and Nagenahira decides who plays who in the semis. This game is the last group match of this season's SLPL before the semis start.

There is only 1 Pakistani in each team:

Uva: Hammad Azam (replaces Shoaib Malik)

Nagenahira: Imran Nazir (back from injury; replaces Ahmed Shehzad)

It'll be interesting to see how Hammad's all-round performance is. Also, Nazir's batting will be important for Pakistan in the T20 world cup and for the Australia series.

Uva won the toss and are batting first. Current score: 40/1 (6 overs). Kandamby just got out, but it was a no-ball. Hammad's batting didn't come yet.

Should be a good game!

Shehzad dropped after the crap performance so far rightfully so. Should imran nazir have played? If i was team management Id let him play in the all important SF and not risk him for this dead rubber match.

and nasir hossain didnt get a single match in this tournament

Kandamby hits a :four

Uva now 62/1 after 9 overs.

Shehzad on air says that he's not impressed with his form, but he says he is expecting to be playing in the semi-finals. :)) He says giving local players a chance was important too (which is why he was 'rested'?). :23:

No offence but apart from the top 3 Wayamba batsman(tamim, kami, jaya) ive hardly seen some good aggressive batting and sixes. The plan of most teams is to just settle during the first 6 overs thats why we havent seen big scores from other teams. Wayamba on the other hand made full use powerplay overs, since its not so easy to get runs with 5 fielders outside the circle and boundaries are not as small as they were in IPL

Shahzads team playing wth only 3 foreign players?

Yeah, you can play a maximum of 4.

BTW Kandamby just smashed a full-toss on the leg-side for the 6, and next bowl his catch got dropped. The fielder had it in his hand, but I don't know how it fell out. :))

Uva Next are 73/1 after 10 overs.

Commies said that 160 on this pitch is achievable, so that's what Uva should target then.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed but, of late Cricinfo have become quite lackadaisical in their commentary of the SLPL games. On PP as well the daily SLPL threads have also become scarce. There's interest in today's game purely because of Nazir and Azam's participation. Worrying signs for the SLPL.

Yup, I was wondering the same thing today while making this thread. But at least the SLPL>BPL. :))

Another :6 to Munaweera!

But a dreadful run-out right next ball, Kandamby :out :))

Uva 93/2 after 11.2 overs.

Will Hammad come in next? :hammad

No Hammad, Shiv Chanderpaul comes in instead. Let's hope Shiv goes early so that Hammad comes in. :23: But then there's Oram and Mcdonald as well.

the quality cricket has been so poor. Sitters dropped, when the batsman is supposed to get out the ball turns out to be a no ball, hardly much six. SLPL hasnt been a hit like BPL but the good thing is that the locals stepped in this tournament unlike BPL or IPL

Disagree, thought BPL was better, mainly because more people turned up and because batting, bowling and fielding performances in general were more entertaining. Really needs to pick up during the semi final and final stages.

I dont think azam would bat early. There are guys like oram, mcdonall still to come so dont think azam will enter before no. 8

why teams sign chanderpaul ..... he is painful to watch in t20

i hope 4 forgeiner they play in semi will b oram, gul, hammad and mcdonald

Lol who (besides Geo News) cared about BPL? :))

Why do you need HYPE outside bangladesh? There was a lot of interest among bangladeshis to follow BPL and thus BPL was a success and the quality of the cricket was good there and not to mention there was a lot of entertainment thx to guys like gayle, pollard, nazir, shehzad. The Payment issue messed things up though but that was after the tournament ended

Even the body language of the players dont look so great. It seems that they simply dont enjoy playing under empty stands.

There's a lot of noise in the crowd today too...

THe Keeper of Nagenahira is Brother of Dilshan ..
T,M.Sampath :umarakmal :kami

Well I did, but that was only because of the presence of the Pakistani players, specifically Nazir if I'm honest, and Gayle. If there was no Pakistani/Gayle presence in any match, I didn't really bother.

Heavy showers, doesn't look like we'll get to see Hammad after all. :))

A spell on Hammad by Misbah? :misbah

In that case you should like SLPL more because not only Nazir's there, but Afridi, Ajmal, and many more Pakistanis are present.

And Nazir is the only reason I'm following this match. If we discoount his second match, this will be only his second completed innings of the whole tournament. Assuming he insha'Allah doesn't get injured again.

Baakee sab tau UAE chaley ge hain Australians se dau dau haat karney.

looks like Imran Nazir wont get to play his innings becuse of rain. Looks like the wait continues.

McDonald will be on strike in the next over. Uva 152/6 after 19 overs. 165 on the cards?

we hyped over hammmad so much ........
poor fawad didnt get a game

I personally feel that Hammad Azam is overhyped. He has a long way to go before he can reach Razzaq's stature.

Then again, the lad is young.

Hammad is not a slogger. He is a proper ODI middle/lower order batsman with good technique. What do you expect from him when he is sent in the last over of a T20 match?

I feel he should be given a proper run in ODIs, not tests or T20s.

yes hes not a slogger but is good hitter ... better to send him early

This may be dead rubber to many but this is very important for both teams.

The loser will play Wayamba who look a very tough team to beat and I seriously doubt any of these 2 can beat them. Also, the loser will play tomorrow so no rest before the match

On the other hand the winner plays kanduruta who dont look such a great team and without ajmal and tanvir I dont find them good at all. Also, the winner of today's match will get an off day between matches

looks like Imran Nazir hasn't changed his batting style much..attacking every ball like he used to

no one would want to face Wayamba in semis lol they look unbeatable side at the moment.
