What's new

Somerset vs Pakistanis | Tour Match | Taunton | Jul 3rd-5th, 2016 | Day 2

Amir looks good, as well as sohail. Rahat was rather unimpressive. Hoping to see wahab and IK Jr for next practice game. Rahat is too similar to Amir for me, and ofc doesn't compare. So we should bring wahab or ik if it's a flatter track for the main games.

Rahat is no good, poor stats too. I would start with IK.

Like I said, Sohail Khan would be WONDERFUL in these conditions.

Imran Khan and Wahab both are RUBBISH for England. Particularly the trundler Imran snr.

Sohail khan and Amir should start the 1st test. Wahab and imran should get the next warm up match to see who should start. Rahat needs to improve, not a good start but wouldn't write him off yet.

Fully agree with you. Dont even understand why people want Imran to play in this series tbh. What does he bring on non UAE pitches. Has to be Amir, Sohail and Rahat/Wahab

Imran is useless in these conditions, would rather see Wahab play. I'm not convinced over Rahat quite yet either, but Imran Khan is a no go zone for me, he's waste of space in this squad. Ehsan would have been a better pick.

Judging from these videos, Sohail Khan has proven he can make good use of the new Dukes ball and bowl decent lines. He should be a lock in for the first test alongside Amir.

The third spot is between Rahat and Wahab for me, and I'm leaning towards Wahab to be perfectly honest. Rahat has a very poor attitude and doesn't have anything to offer with the bat or in the field. Both of them are spray guns, but Wahab brings something different to the table seeing Amir and Sohail can both swing the ball. Wahab could be useful if reverse swing comes into play or of conditions flatten out, and I'm counting in it to do so because I highly doubt England will serve green mambas up against Mohammad Amir.

So a drop catch on Sohail but not the easiest dropped by Misbah having a bad game.

Boundary from every single Rahat over so far  Sounds like he's bowling too short as usual.

As expected Rahat garbage.

Seriously should've taken Ehsan over him.

Our bowling is too good for Somerset.

Still disappointed with the batting effort though. Not enough runs against an attack that is far from international standard.

Meh, we should have played against a more competent team.

This is a waste of time for the team. They should have been tested a bit more, especially with the ball since you can always trust our batsmen to self-destruct regardless of the opposition.

Wasn't that great a delivery, played on. Still bowling the wrong length.

Rahat still Bowling on a short length. Not good.

Really wanted him to perform well and play the 1st test.

I reckon Rahat is much better than IK...

1. He is about 8k quicker
2. IK is a decent swing bowler, but Rahat can bring the ball in, and as a left-hander, that always causes problems. See - M.Amir, W.Akram
3. Because he has extra pace and height, he can also get extra bounce, which IK does not get

IK would not be much different from a good English county bowler and the type of stuff these guys play day in, day out.

may be that is deliberate from ecb to not give pakistan a strong opposition i think pcb can do nothing about it

fair point, but it was a back of a length ball that produced Hildreth's edge, and he is the best batsman (maybe apart from Tresco) in this Somerset team.

Hell be useless on this tour. Will waste a spot. This is why Arthur rates Sohail more as well. This should be the attack in the first Test as well. Maybe Wahab in place of Rahat

We need someone who can keep the flow of runs and also get us wickets.rahat is not good for that neither is wahab
Ik also uses his mind and is better fielder and tailender.

Look at their players, apart from an expired Trescothick and Hildreth, none of their players are anywhere near international standard.

This is a complete mismatch; Zimbabwe will whitewash this team in a Test series.

This isn't good practice for Pakistan. They should have played against a competitive team.

When there is such a big gulf between the quality of two teams, pitch doesn't matter.

On a green pitch, Amir alone will probably take 8 wickets against this lineup.

On a turning pitch, Yasir will take all 10 wickets.

Wahab bowled that crucial spell in UAE to win us that test against England. I've yet to see IK jr do that. Yes he got a 5-fer but it wasn't as match changing as Wahab's spell was. Always need that bowler who can bring something extra to the table. Though i'd like to see them both in next practice game to get a better idea.

OK, entitled to your opinion on this so my last reply, but...

1. IK can't bat, both him and Rahat are genuine no. 11's

2. Yasir Shah will be expected to dry up runs, I'd rather have three wicket-taking, attacking fast bowlers.

3. Having said that, Rahat has gotten quality batsmen out on flat tracks in the UAE by drying up the runs, so he can do that too. I take your point that he does occasionally bowl short, wide deliveries, but I do not think IK has the same kind of wicket taking ability that Rahat does.

4. Rahat is more experienced in intl cricket and that is important on a big tour.

I guess time will tell whether you or I are right though!

Rahat averages 36 he is garbage.

the balls aamir bowled will get out anyone in the world.
Only sohail khan and rahat induced mistakes.aamir deliveries were unplayable.

Out of 9 teams, Somerset finished 6th last season.

We should have played Yorkshire, Middlesex or Durham.

Amir bowled well but the batsmen had poor techniques as well.

Somerset destroyed the touring indians in a warm up game , i know that is no benchmark but its not easy for touring teams against local sides.
