What's new

South Africa [145/4] defeat Pakistan [144/7] by 6 wickets in the 2nd T20I; Series tied 1-1

This ball sums up the game for Iftikhar with one catch as only bright spot

A comfortable win for SA. A lot to think about for Pak

Haider probably inquiring about PSL as he is in his team. :misbah

Misbah with his incompetent selections
Danish Aziz should have played

Misbah with his incompetent selections
Danish Aziz should have played

Unless, they can only walk with one leg or have one working arm, Misbah does not budge from his friends.

Good loss for Pak as long as they realise Ifti, Khushdil, Nawaz are not cut out for internationals. Question mark on Haris and Talat too.

Ball is spinning but, Iftikhar seems to be more of a darter than a spinner here

Doesnt matter when you dont have the spinners to take advantage of the pitch.

Shaheen shouldve been brought 6 overs before he was brought on.

Absolutely outplayed by a very weak South African side.

Batting was lacklustre, the fielding below par, the bowling out of sorts and the captaincy very average.

Hasnain has to play plus few others like amad butt ..we will.lose the series anyways so doesnt matter. I am.not defending this pathetic performance but toss is a huge factor

Batting was short by around 30 runs.
Bowling was wayward and the field placings was not good enough.

Rauf for husnain
Fahim for hassan ali
Iftikhar for asif ali

And I suppose this was our A team?

The sixes south africa hit were the difference bw the two teams. They must have hit 7-8 sixes vs our 1, that's a huge difference

LAHORE: Dwaine Pretorius produced the best Twenty20 International figures by a South African to help the Proteas draw level at 1-1 with Pakistan thanks to an excellent six-wicket win in match two at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday.

The all-rounder claimed five for 17 in four overs as the tourists restricted their hosts to just 144 for seven after winning the toss and bowling.

Reeza Hendricks and Pite van Biljon then struck 42 apiece – the visitors comfortably chasing down the target with 22 deliveries to spare. It means that three-match sequence will be decided when the final game of the tour is played at the same venue on Sunday.

But match two was all about Pretorius. Playing in his 13th T20I, the 31-year-old was in stellar form as he smashed his previous best international figures of one for 12 and beating Ryan McLaren’s record of five for 19 against West Indies at North Sound in 2010.

He was outstanding from the outset with his tight lines and length asking some real questions of the home side. Pretorius’ first wicket came in the second over when he got one to nip back and trap Pakistan captain Babar Azam leg before wicket for five.

Andile Phehlukwayo (1/31) and Tabraiz Shamsi (1/16), another man that was in superb form, then claimed a wicket each to leave the hosts on 48 for three in the seventh over.

Mohammad Rizwan was the only man that was making most of the runs at the other end, the match one centurion adding a strong 51 (41 balls, 6 fours, 1 six) to his tally.

Once he fell to a Pretorius slower ball, Iftikhar Ahmed (20) and Faheem Ashraf (30* off 12 balls) helped their side to a respectable, albeit modest total.

Janneman Malan (4) and Jon-Jon Smuts (7) did fall early in the Proteas’ chase to give the home side hope.

But Hendricks clubbed three sixes and three fours in his 30-ball salvo and van Biljon crashed three sixes and two fours in his innings that lasted 32 balls to knock the spirit out of Pakistan.

It was also the highest score by the latter in his sixth T20I, although both fell with 40 still to get.

David Miller (25* off 19 balls) and skipper Heinrich Klaasen (17* off nine balls) then finished the job to give the South Africans their first win of the tour.

Yep to me quite a few question marks.

Haider looks overrated, Khushdil not firing, Chachu Ifti playing a selfish knock.

Aamer Yamin for Faheem the rest I can agree with

A five-wicket haul from Dwaine Pretorius helped South Africa to victory in the second T20I in Lahore.

Pretorius’s figures of 5/17 in his four overs are the best ever by a South African in T20I cricket and also the best ever against Pakistan in the format.

And the 31-year-old’s phenomenal performance helped the tourists level the series at 1-1 to turn Sunday’s third and final match into a decider.

Pretorius removed the danger man Babar Azam for 5 with just his second delivery, trapping the Pakistan captain lbw. And the home side struggled to get going throughout their innings, with even a half-century from Mohammad Rizwan – picking up from his century in the opening match – not enough to inspire a decent total.

The star man Pretorius came back in the middle overs to remove both Iftikhar Ahmed and Rizwan just as the pair looked set to accelerate, with Pakistan only bringing up their hundred in the 17th over.

A late flurry of runs from Faheem Ashraf, with 30 off just 12 deliveries, took Pakistan up to a total of 144, but not before Pretorius had completed his five-for with the dismissals of Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Nawaz.

A stunning opening spell from Shaheen Afridi did give Pakistan a glimmer of hope however, with the left-arm quick bowler removing Janneman Malan with just the second ball of the innings. And Afridi returned with a wicket-maiden in the third over – the 20-year-old’s first-ever maiden in T20I cricket.

But South Africa rallied well after the early departures of Malan and JJ Smuts, and a partnership of 77 between Reeza Hendricks (42) and Pite van Biljon (42) broke the back of the chase, with the Proteas well ahead of the rate when Hendricks fell to Usman Qadir in the 12th over.

And the Proteas strolled to the win with 22 balls to spare as David Miller, with 25 off 19 balls, and skipper Heinrich Klaasen, with 17 off 9, steered South Africa to 145/4 to complete a six-wicket win.

The teams meet again in Lahore on Sunday for the third and final match of the series.

And I suppose this was our A team?

Too many excuses over Pakistan playing their B team. The reality is that these players were playing at home and they are experienced in these conditions unlikely the South African reserve players.

We keep talking about the importance of home advantage. Well today they didn’t show it’s importance.

Pakistani played pathetic cricket and deserves to be criticized. This B team excuse does not work when you are playing at home and against a visiting team that is also playing its B team and who have no experience in these conditions.
