What's new

South Africa [286 and 130] beat India [209 and 135] by 72 runs in the first Test to take 1-0 series

So far in this test the only time partnership crossed 50 was when batsmen attacked! No point hanging out there...

Kohli on the charge - play it like an ODI and win!

I guess today is the day we find out:

1. Whether Kohli is the real deal.
2. Whether Pandya is the new Azhar Mahmood.

World of difference between this and bullying Sri Lanka on flat tracks in India! SA has the upper hand, one more wicket and the tail starts!

this is what everyone said last innings. then pandya played a blider. still have saha, ashwin, bhuvi and pandeya

At least Indian run rate is better compared to 1st innings (if it was something like 25 or 30/3 now it would have put even more pressure!) Actually the RR in first half of 1st innings put us in to this position now (Pandya's heroics just gave us a chance now)

Rohit Sharma needs 40 overs even in ODI's to get going....lol... and this is a test match :23:

Pujara should be either fully precise with technique like Dravid (If needed Dravid would have blocked it like a hell on any pitch) or should start scoring some runs instead of blocking and falling prey to one delivery! Actually Dravid was not missing any scoring opportunities in Test matches (This is because people thought Pujara would be more aggressive than Dravid! It is really unfortunate the way his career is sliding down every year! Even in home matches he has miserable strike rate!)

Anyways Kohli should continue to do this good work and replicate the emotions that he displays through performance this is ONE REAL CHALLENGE!

rabada is not bowling well. target him

Yes this is how you should play on this pitch, target the bowler who is tired at the moment and who is not focused on his job and respect the guy who is doing well. (Should not miss both) A kind of chess game!

You mean Indian batting is so poor that they cant score 200 runs against an attack which has lost their frontline bowler?

Frontline bowler was half fit even at start of game then he got fully unfit as expected

50+ overs is just enough to get that target today! If you leave it for tomorrow (with 2 or 3 wickets in hand), the morning fresh advantage can finish the tailenders! You cannot survive that many overs here...

The problem for South Africa will start once the pacers get tired and Maharaj has to come out and bowl.

Its better the Indians play a patient game.

Rabada making it easy for batsmen to leave these balls well outside off.

Virat's technique looks alot better than he was in 2014. He will score alot runs in england this time around.

If SA keep bowling at Kohli's pads, he will keep scoring of them with ease. The man has absolute control of his onside game. They need to keep it on the off side channel.

Kohli doesn't have the temprament to succeed in bowling conditions in Tests. What the hell was that?

That was a good ball on the pads !

Philander was tired and still bagged Kohli.... This has turned the game in South African favor. Now the tail starts...

Optimist eyes will look at Rohit and Pandya as last hopes.

Rohit looks like having luck in his back sad he won't win this match for india.

This is what we call shomman jonok porajoy (honorable defeat) cricketjoshila

Give the curator a pay rise. If you want to keep the format alive, ball needs to slightly dominate bat so we get action packed matches.

Not these 649/7, 662-9 garbage we're seeing down under.

On off stump, moving in, isnt it?

Just ribbing you sir.

Good, whatever happens from now we might be assured that Rahul & Rahane will play the rest of the tour and next overseas tours! So much for the friendship & love from Kohli & Shastri!

Pandya needs to do what he did in 1st inns and just come out and play some shots, Indias tail is decent so still in with a sniff.

I hope to god we don't pick Shan Masood for our tour of South Africa later this year.

Playing him on this Newlands pitch against this attack would be committing a UN human rights violation.

Well from here the 1st target should be 130 (psychological advantage that we scored more than SA in 2nd innings). We missed the trick in 1st innings (Run Rate)

Good that we lost this match for the poor preparations and selections!

I guess today is the day we find out:

1. Whether Kohli is the real deal.
2. Whether Pandya is the new Azhar Mahmood.
And both Kohli and Pandya have been exposed as being below the level some hoped them to be.

India going to be blown away well within 30 overs it seems. So much for the so called best batting line up in the world..

Philander showing what a menace he is in these conditions.

Indian bowlers have given a very good performance.... Batting on the other hand leaves much to desire...

77 was the 1st innings trail, and here we are, 77/6.

Pakistan tours South Africa in ten months.

Would they lose six wickets in 25 overs chasing a low total?

Probably!

You have to say though, on these juicy tracks, can Pakistan afford to exclude Mohammad Asif?

If our pacers (Amir, JK, Hasan) + Shah are fit we should be able to get 20 wickets.

Our batting is way fragile than India tho.

I don't see Asif coming back to Pak XI. A pity, but that's how life is.

All the Indian batsmen like showing swagger, but put them on the test and they look completely clueless. None of them seem to have absolutely any grit. They don't have a Misbah'esque fighter in their batting line up!
