South Africa finish Day 1 of the second Test against Pakistan in a commanding position at 316/4

that's what happens why you do not have a bowler who can bowl above 140 and has decent accuracy in sena countries. 500 loading and a defeat by 1 inning

This is poor Test bowling

In fact, this guy really isn’t a Test quality bowler

What’s the average first innings score here?
There are two types Newland pitch offers. One is unplayable. Another one is road. you see very high scores. You also see very low scores here. Not seen how it behaves. We will know when how Pakistan bats on this pitch.

Technically it's 215-2. One of those wickets was a tailender who was promoted to no 3 for some reason.
Absolutely right brother.

Our “fans” are like scavengers. Scavenging for any excuse to defend these lame duck 120k, slower than 15 year old bowlers.

We keep getting gaslighted with that earth shattering argument “we don’t have anyone better”.

They did that about t20 openers - and Saim showed we do.

They did that with Babar in tests, and we get Ghulam. Now we’re getting that with so called fast bowlers who are an insult to that profession. Pure floaty trundlers. Such an embarassment.

I refuse to believe that’s the best we’ve got. And no gaslighting will convince me otherwise.

I went through cricinfo comments i see this

Firdose points out that this was the 107-over disaster strip from last year. "What I can tell you is that it's the same pitch and that last year, Western Province did some soil analysis and discovered there were no problems. So…" Ricks is finding it true enough this year!

Their are better pacers in domestics. Infact ali raza is better then all these clowns.

Problem is theirs a lack of fc pacers in pakistan atm. The only solution is to do what Australia did and that's shoving a 19 year old with only 11 Fc games to play Bumrah.

Pakistan need to be brave, but they won't be. They play safe, don't take risks and it costs them.

Infact the reason we won ct is because we replaced Ahmed shehzad for a debutant and that debutant ended up becoming our best opener since saeed Anwar, with only saim being his competition atm.

Must have gone to the same school as DeQock? Looks so similar in stance and bat flow

Jamal banging it into the deck at 138 kph. Good stuff. You need a point of difference from the rest of this attack.

This is a worse Pakistan attack than last time in South Africa in 2018, which was: Shaheen Afridi, Amir, Hasan Ali and Yasir Shah. and that team lost 3-0. They've had 6 years since then and still not managed to build a decent bowling attack.

They did that in Australia in 2019 when they fielded an attack comprising of Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi and Musa Khan. Australia pretty much annihilated them. Naseem got injured. Musa got probably the worst beating going wicketless at nearly 6 RPO. Ponting called it the "worst bowling attack to ever tour Australia."

There are no shortcuts to being successful in test cricket.

Did babar just drop 2 catches?

Why does this clown even play test cricket? He and Abdullah are the worst fielders in pk team atm.

This pitch was created to nullify Pakistan's seamers. Which is fine. But South African pacers will also have to bowl on his pitch. No excuse for Pakistan batters to not score on this pitch. It is flat as a pancake and will be for atleast the first few days.

But they know Pakistani batters are no threat.

Pakistan can never out bat another team

What a home advantage does to a team. They knew that Pakistan have trundlers so they won’t survive on this flat pitch

“A sporty child, who played schools' rugby, provincial squash and once held the Gauteng under-14 record for weight-lifting, Ryan Rickelton added keeping wicket to his skillset to become a better cricketer. By then, he was already a batter, coached mostly by his father Ian, who was director of sports at what would become his high school St. Stithians, and inspired by Australian left-handers Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist.”

Guy is a weight lifter too.

He should become Governor of California one day

After their 392 against SL in 2017 the scores have been

1st innings scores at newlands

SA 286 vs India they won 2018
SA 311 vs Aus they won 2018
Pakistan 177 they lost 2019
England 269 they won 2020
India 223 they lost 2022
SA 55 vs India they lost 2023
SA 251/3 vs Pakistan in progress

So 300 or there about in recent times.

It’s a much harder surface, and drier as well. For that SAF has picked three “hit the deck” fast bowlers, dropping two cricketers taking 10 wickets in last Test. On top, they have picked a genuine finger spinner. It’ll not be easy for PAK batsmen, particularly if SAF has 450+ on board - they’ll put 6 catching men and bowl aggressively; run rate might be higher, but PAK won’t bat longer.

This is the difference in culture. SENA countries producing high quality talent in private schools. You can boast about product coming out through quality coaching at these schools.

What can we boast about? Which madrasa in Pakistan is producing the next big fluke to play cricket?

Poles apart , these pitches. That was the 3rd toughest batting conditions in tracking history per Cricviz. Especially from the Wynberg end.

SA has a bit more variety in their bowling attack. A tall lanky bowler who can get something out of this benign surface. But if Pakistan sees off new ball they can also bat well here.

What is worrying for Pak bowling is control percentage of batsmen

Bavuma 95%
Rickleton 94%

That means they have to give away their wickets
