South Africa finish Day 1 of the second Test against Pakistan in a commanding position at 316/4

Jamal is so inconsistent with his line.He is not the allrounder Pakistan is looking at.

Jamal should have kicked on from Australia tour but he has regressed his performances there looking more flukish with time

I can't get over what a blunder they made leaving out Noman. Khurram, Abbas, Jamal was a good enough pace attack on this pitch. The second innings edge Noman would have given us will be missed, especially looking at the cracks on the pitch. South Africa have plenty of right-handers and have been known to struggle against quality-spin bowling as well.

Why the lack of short stuff to Bavuma? When you know he likes to take it on...especially early on in his innings

The only change needed was for Noman for Jamal

Nauman is also not big of a batting downgrade to Jamal

Think you're going a bit overboard there. Jamal's batting ability is perfectly good for a bowling all-rounder. He also offers something different with his extra pace. Mir Hamza should have missed out for Noman.

Need to get rid of rickelton and bavuma.. they are looking pretty set on crease and scoring runs easily.

SA looking good for a score over 300 which will be a match winning total.

Need to restrict SA but the Pakistan bowlers are not good enough

Shan bowled Saim in the first inning of the first match and he took a wicket and Agha in this match and he takes wicket, both gave minimal runs too, so why does he not bowl his part time spinners?

I am convinced now there is no hope from Shan as a captain and we all know nothing better happening with his batting either.

Pakistan bowling just painful to watch.

Abbas decent in helpful conditions but otherwise can’t even hit 128.

The rest are not consistent enough or if they are don’t have enough pace like Hamza.

We don’t have bowlers that can hit 140 consistently.

To many release pressure deliveries been bowled here. Very poor bowling effort so far this.

Actually he is good player of short pitch bowling but don't know how as he is not much tall.
I didn't say he was a bad player of short pitched bowling. Just that he is a compulsive hooker of the ball. And that in there is an opportunity to get a wicket. But Pakistan made no such effort

Mir Hamza should be the first name in bowling sheet, as he’s the best bowler in Pakistan right now.

Shan Masood
Saim Ayub
Babar Azam
Saud Shakeel
Kamran Ghulam
Agha Salman
M Rizwan
Nauman Ali
Mohd Abbas
Mir Hamza
Khurram Shahzad

How's the best bowler in Pakistan looking now, brother? Will that Test average ever come down to 40 and below?

Mir Hamza is way past his prime.

At least play some upcoming young talent who has some pace.

Don’t understand bowling 33 year old medium pacers. They are not going to trouble top teams on good surfaces. This is a good surface.

This is on the selectors though - they have no vision whatsoever.

I think this is South Africa's last Test before the WTC final.

WTC final is in June. So, they don't have any Test for the next 6 months.

My favorite trundler is Irfanullah Shah.

He gets lovely movement in air and is really tall.

I'm generally against trundlers but I'm intrigued by the idea of seeing him bowling on a spicy pitch.

Not a long term bet though.

It was indeed M Hafeez that set the plan and field placing right when Pakistan toured Australia for the Tests. People thought it was Shan. Now Shan has been exposed since the Bangladesh home series.
Shan is aggressive and has a loud mouth that's all. Hence in aus it seemed as if he was the one making the calls.

Another all drama bazi no performance no brains players.

Kinda reminds me of Ahmed shehzad except he's even worse as a player.

Nouman would had applied brakes on RR,but insecure Shan picked Jamal to score runs as cover for himself.

What defensive mindset, Rickelton is blazing away

Dropping Naseem (& allowing SSA to ply BPL) was a mistake for Cape Town Test. Centurion is a seemers track where medium pacers can be effective maintaining length-line; but Newlands is a much harder & bouncier track - PAK medium pacers attack won’t be that successful here. And, they didn’t pick any spinner - if this pair can carry on till Tea, PAK is losing this Test. Cracks will open up from Day 4 here - batting in 4th innings won’t be easy.

Both needs to bat long and kill the game.
Why should South Africa want to draw when they can win it.

South Africa need to score a decent 1st innings Total to win the test.

Another question to you - Is this South Africa weakest batting lineup since the redemption?

Averaging 54 with the ball in his last 6 FC matches.

I don't have a problem with the skill issue at times but my issue will always be about reading the game.

Shan said & I quote, if we'd win the toss, we would have bowled first. That's a really unintelligent thing to say on a pitch that's dry & the weather is sunny. The moment these players step in as analysts, all of a sudden they become smart sounding but the moment they step on to the cricket field, it feels that they leave their brains somewhere else.

Hamza was perfect for the 1st test match. This is not his pitch.

Only one of Abbas or Hamza should play unless it's a green mamba but here we are.

Post lunch session, we started with Jamal & Agha, & while Jamal is our fastest bowler, he is not cut out to do that role unless there's reverse swing on offer. Then instead of Abbas, other two were called in for a spell to preserve Abbas. Preserve him for what, I ask.

A bad bowling line up makes watching test cricket dull, a bad bowling line-up & an inept test captain together as a combination just makes watching cricket impossible.

Dropping Naseem didn't make sense.

Trust me, this is Pakistan's bowling speed
