Glorious shot by ABCD, maximum over long on off... yes you've guessed it McGain, and as I type another SIXER!

Make that another .... 2 sixes... is AB trying to the show how useless McDonald is ... but we know that already .....

Well done McDonald ... you saved face there .... it was only 25 off the over and 1 wicket ...

warne got spanked on his debut against india and rest is as you say is history.

Mcgain got spanked on debut but i think he will be confined to history after this effort!

ABCD has hit 7 sixes, isn't the record 9 by Wasim akram or is it 11? can't remember.

ABD is thoroughly an entertainer when he is on song.
The most entertaining I ever saw him bat was when he was using a runner in an ODI and just wanted to hit everything out of the park. :afridi

Well ... I guess we saw it today as well.

OK ... end of the innings ... prob the most entertaining I got to see in a while (I never see much cricket due to work). Well done to Prince, Amla, Kallis, AB and Albie.

The Test isn't over yet. Hopefully the SA bowlers can do a repeat of the 1st innings.

Brilliant and entertaining knock by AB. This series and last series pretty much have shown their isnt to much difference between these two top sides in world cricket!

Ponting is a gonner!

Great catch by Harris.

76-2

Ponting stands his ground - referral

Looks iffy in the 1st replay - cant see it being given out

But Ponting is gone 2 balls later - Steyn gets him caught behind!

Fantastic over by Steyn!

76-2

Very poor shot from ponting for his experience. He just kept throwing the bait. Finally Ponting succumbed.

but he's gone now :D 76-2 steyn bowls and the wicketkeeper boucher takes the catch :D

Aussies heading towards a big trashing here!

Husseys needs some runs as hes been woefully out of form!

Harris is bowling better than any time I have seen him before.

I get the feeling that if Steyn was in the current Indian side with the same level of performance then he would be rated as the greatest bowler in the world (he is by some already, but ask the cricinfo bunch and it's Zaheer Khan or Sharma)

No one in their right mind would rate any Indian bowler ahead of Dayle Steyn. For my money, he is the best fast bowler currently, and that too by a long way.

Aussies 100/2 - Katich 43* Hussey 12*

6 overs left in days play. S.A hunting for one more wicket maybe tonight!

Innings defeat coming up for Australia.

The tireless Mitchell Johnson with 4 more wickets, now has 94 Test wickets in 21 matches. Don't think he will get the chance to add to that for this match but is a chance to get 100 in 22 Tests in the first Ashes test.

Siddle not rewarded for being the best of the bowlers, McGain well rewarded for being the worst of the bowlers by several million miles.

Katich's leg spin again taking wickets, he has 5 wickets in this series for very few runs.

The Bunny fails again, at this rate he will have a lot of catching up to do with SRT for the test stats :D....

Only 5 hundreds behind. ;-) At a superior average.

Given the flat pitches and England's current bowling line-up - he may well get a few in the Ashes this summer.

Superior avg which will be climbing down rather fast at this rate; when is the Bunny playing Harbhajan again ? :D..

Ponting now averages 56.20

It's been a steady decline for him since 2007, averaging 43.07 since then. That average since 2007 ain't bad, but not great either.

McGain's a goner I reckon. Couldn't step up to the big occasion. Shame, as he's supposed to be a nice bloke, but you don't get picked for Australia just being a nice bloke.

The hardest thing about watching Bryce McGain's Test dreams slip away amid a barrage of boundaries in Cape Town was that he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. A 36-year-old father of one who has waited years for his opportunity, McGain is so humble and so friendly that it's impossible not to wish him well.

When the Australians filed off the Newlands field at lunch on the third day, McGain had 0 for 113 from 13 overs. He could have been forgiven for skulking away into the dressing room to hide from the spotlight. Instead, while his team-mates hurried towards the lunch table, McGain lingered on the boundary to sign every bat and shirt that was thrown his way, and there were plenty of them.

It was the kind of generous gesture that few men would have made in the same circumstances. When he came out after the break, his figures didn't improve a great deal and he finished his first innings of Test cricket with 0 for 149 from 18 overs. One of his tormentors was AB de Villiers, who scored 163. Despite being in fierce competition with the Australians, de Villiers said it tough to watch McGain's Test hopes fade so quickly.

"It was truly heartbreaking," de Villiers said. "I've got a pretty soft heart and life is hard. It's really bad to see a guy [suffer]. I wouldn't want him to get five wickets, obviously not. Out there it's a battle and I'm going to give it my best shot and hit him for six sixes if I can. If I don't, well done to him.

"It was really tough to be out there because I know the guy is going through a hard time. But it's unfortunately part of the game. Hopefully he'll get a chance again. I don't know if it's going to happen because the Aussies are pretty tough on their selection and the way they pick their guys. I hope he gets another chance and I hope he stands up after this."

If I were McGain I would be ENRAGED about what De Villiers said. Pity from the enemy? Can you imagine someone saying this about Shane Warne?

Unfortunately for him (and fortunately for OZ) McGain's probably not going to get a chance to make De Villiers eat his smug words.

lol the guy is so nice the opposition feels bad for him. Perhaps it might work in his advantage next time.

He sure did get a thorough thrashing lol.

Mate, in rugby if the oppo ever felt sorry for me that would be the day I would get sent from the field for fighting :D

Very happy it is a long time until we play India in Tests again, the constant bakwaas that goes with those series gets pretty wearing.

Don't worry the Ponting will still finish his career with a higher average and more centuries than Sachin. No records for you India! Unless you buy them.

Today's play starts in 15 minutes. Expect Australia to be done by the second session, we are a mile behind with nothing to play for.

Typical Aussie mentatlity when the going gets tough and your opponent refuses to bend over; just give up :))) ..

We shall see in tests, in ODI however SRT will own it FOREVER MUAHAHAHAHAHA..

Ans in bold ..

Well this is thrilling stuff. We have had 9 overs this morning for 5 runs.

One four and one dropped chance where they ran a single. In 9 completed overs of cricket.

Hussey 17 off 76 balls.

Katich positively sprinting on 45 from 127 balls.

Mcgain has really the team down. North would have been a better option, given his decent batting and ok offspin.

North is sick and not available.

The dullness continues, this partnership is worth 43 off 30 overs.

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring match im not wathching it anymore just to slow

the best sa XI is I think:

1. G Smith ©
2. A Prince
3. H Amla
4. J Kallis
5. A De Viliers
6. JP Duminy
7. A Morkel
8. M Boucher +
9. P Harris
10. D Steyn
11. M Ntini

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

M Morkel
I Tahir
I Khan

and some otherts like Tsotsobe and co

this line up is really strong

8 batsmens
and 6 bowlers included JP duminy prince and amla can bowl 2 but they don't bowl in much matches

Another disappointing return for Hussey. He has been troubled by Steyn all this series.

98.6 Ntini to McDonald, FOUR, this time a front foot drive through extra cover for another boundary
98.5 Ntini to McDonald, FOUR, better shot as he drives off the backfoot through the covers
98.4 Ntini to McDonald, FOUR, drives and a thick edge behind square

Current partnership 105 runs, 15.5 overs, RR: 6.63 (McDonald 42, Johnson 56)

awsome p'ship this

108.4 Steyn to Johnson, SIX, too short and Johnson pulls it high over mid wicket and into the crowd. That wasn't a slow ball at 140 kph

Johnson 73(68) - McDonald 60(76)
Aus 347 - 6 (109.0 ov) - trail by 95 runs
16 overs left in the day

How did Australia contrive to be bowled out for cheap score on this pitch in the first innings.

Johnson is batting amazingly well. 113 S.R so far and he has kept it this high all throughout his innings. I knew he could bat a bit but this is brilliant from him. If he keeps trying this hard he'll end up being a fine all-rounder!

its not clear from the replay so it should be not out, but hotspot says it just got a tickle, little inside edge
