Mulder is obviously a better batsman in terms of potential but, his bowling has rather regressed since his U19 days with average around mid 120s. Not to forget certain requirements which SA has in terms of creating XI.

Ball(s) is not brand new or too old and the 3rd-5th best bowlers come in.
 
Hopefully Hassan Ali is fit for 2nd ODI, Rauf is getting tonked and Rauf can't bat either.

The quota rule is for the calender year not by game or by series.
 
Spin bowling has really gone out of the ODI game.

Doesn't help that Pakistan play Shadab , who is a pretty ordinary bowler these days.

Thats true but, you have to maintain a certain average by the end of the year and keep developing the players who are supposed to fill that up at the same time.

It's not as big a deal as posters make out. As long as there are 3 or 4 coloured players in the starting 11, it won't be that hard to meet.

Imran Tahir averaged 45 on this ground. Most spinners have struggled here
 
Pehlu is clearly a quota cricketer but what surprises me is Klaasen is even worse than him and he is white. What’s his excuse?

I think he is playing primarily as a batsman, they just want to get 10 overs from him, going for 40-60 runs.

You need to your research. The quota rule is for the calendar year not per game or per series. Andile has done well with the ball in ODIs that's why he is playing.
 
Van Der Dussen should get his 1st century here. Shocked he hasn't got an international 100 yet.
 
What will happen if South Africa randomly field a side with 11 white players? Will the entire CSA management and coaching staff go to jail?
 
Should keep them under 250. Even that score seems to good for our batsmen.
 
Rauf’s run up suggests that the guy has thighs like pro footballers

Probably the conclusion then is SA doesn’t have enough quality cricketers.

Andile and Klassen are super average players. Miller is average too but at least he has that X factor like Afridi or Maxwell that they can overlook his inconsistency.
 
I think just use Hasnain and Shaheen now and go for the kill

He is also a dogged batsman, therefore useful all rounder.
 
So Pakistan can try to utilise this RVD situation where he may not accelerate like he should in order to get his hundred.

Try getting 4 overs of this

Its a joke really. Misbah's tenure was disastrous ask any cricket fan on the street in Pakistan and they will tell you the same. It was painful to watch cricket during his tenure. Sarfraz with all his flaws made the team watchable. Misbah fans and their delusion. :steyn
 
If South Africa end up winning this , this would be a top quality knock from VDD.
 
Pak needs couple of quick wickets if they want to restrict SA to a score less than a decent one
 
The bowling of Faheem shows why India have been good with ball. You don't need pace to bee a good bowler in ODIs, just look at Haris Rauf.

Lol India have given away 340 odd runs in 42 odd overs. Only Bumrah is a decent bowler rest are strictly average

You need a good mix, a proper 90mph bowler like Bumrah and Cummins is the real spearhead
 
Pakistan, besides Rauf and Shadab have bowled fairly nicely

230-250 is so perfect for Rizwan-Babar. They will knock it down chasing under the new odi rules.

Anything over 275 which is unlikely might be a problem.
 
Hasnain is quickly starting to become a pretty reliable bowler. Has been economical in his last few International matches and has shown real growth domestically as well.
 
With two new balls pacers have absolutely no lateral movement to rely upon as the ODI match progresses. The only thing they can do is to vary lengths and pace, so overall not easy being a pacer in modern day ODI cricket.
 
It would be interesting to see how Fakhar goes on this pitch against the new ball.
 
Shaheen hasn't been anywhere near his best in this game, still has decent figures .

He certainly can bowl with a lot more fire my boy
