What's new

South Africa v Pakistan | 3rd ODI | Centurion | 7th April 2021 | Pakistan innings

Surprised fakhar is not going at run a ball with such form. But it's good he is setting up for another big knock

I understand playing Sarfaraz over Asif, that’s fine. But why is Sarfaraz keeping over Rizwan?

Baba says fearless cricket & puts out strokeless Imam who is struggling to put away SA d bowlers.. how Sharjeel can’t get into this odi line up beyond belief!!

We funnily still haven't heard him respond to us pointing out the other day that Ngidi the supposed quota player has an ODI bowling average of 22...

He also called the batting line up today associate level. All of the top 6 barring Bavuma are white. He didn't point out quota there.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, wicket is not easy to bat on a similar kind of wicket SA was really struggling the other day after 10 overs. Pakistan is 44-0 which ensures that Babar can come & play a long inning without much pressure.

Perhaps to give him some match practise incase he is needed to keep wickets due to unavailability of Rizwan.

I'm happy that Fakhar is back to his old self. We needed the team to be more than Babar, and now we have Rizwan, Faheem, Haider and Fakhar seems to be in the game now.

Not sure why people are hating on this slow approach. The pitch is visually on the slow side and the ball is not coming on to the bat. Not to mention the overcast condition. I am fine with the way they are going, so long as they keep their wickets so that batsmen down the order don't have to spend time getting used to this wicket. You have to play to the situation, not just blast from ball one every game.

i dont mind this from fakhar you know if he is going to be consistent...take your time and then pick up the pace although his role is the aggressor but if he does that and is consistent its fine but he cant take his time and get out for sure...

The 3 top run scores in South Africa ODI series win against Australia are playing their 1st ODI of this series. And we are told it's an associate level batting line up. :ssmith

4 boundaries and a six in the first 14 overs against a second string bowling attack is just not acceptable.

I don't understand he comments here. I think they're doing very well at just under 5 an over. The important is to establish a good opening partnership of 100+ before accelerating. There's been too many time where one or both of our openers got out within the first 10 overs. They can definitely score of 300+ doing that. Maybe 350 with the depth today.

Ramiz completes a spell on commentary without picking up a Pakistan wicket, what is going on?

It's fine for today but this is definitely not the middle order for future. We need Imad to replace Shady and Usman has to play in subcontinent. Also Haider and Harris Sohail need to slot back

Most people who are complaining belongs to the T20 generation, they think anything less than 6 or 7 an over is just unacceptable.

Just checked in to the match today, and gosh! Is this Pakistan vs South Africa C?

Haven't heard of half the saffers :facepalm

That's because average scores have gone up. 250-270 will rarely cut it. a 300+ is pretty much standard on a good batting track.

Also Fakhar needs to step it up. Dude scored 190 in the last match and Saffers main threats are gone. time to take advantage

Our fans are the worst

We have Rizwan at 4, then Sarfraz and Nawaz. England have Morgan, Stokes and Buttler so their top order have the luxury to play like that

What makes you think we won't end up at 300+

35 overs still remaining with 10 wickets in hand for Pakistan, which is why they are definitely ahead at this moment & now that batting will become easier So Pakistan can launch an attack from here & can reach 350.

Wasn't Rabada quoted saying he'll prioritize the Pakistan tour over the IPL a couple of months ago?

Best start for Pak in the series rather best start amongst both the teams in the series.

SA will have weather in mind during their chase and depending upon how much Pak gets. First 20 overs (minimum for a result) of SA series will be important in context of their innings as well as bit of rain prediction in the 2nd innings. Pak needs to keep that in mind as well and maximize the return after such a start.

Thank God, Mohd Wasim realised how important Fakhar can be for ODI cricket. Misbah saab tu bas bhongiyan maar rahe tha. If Only we can find some good middle order players then we can compete against best teams.

Yea and now it makes no sense to bat at SR of 80s. They need to be well into 90 or 100+ now that they are setlled and Babar, Rizwan still to come

Good 50 from Imam. Should try to convert it today into a 100

Pakistan is missing a player like shoaib malik or hafeez who would come out of crease and deposit ball into boundary. How can you play marky like that

Our middle order is pretty lean, so atleast one of top 3 will have to go till the end to minimize chance of any mini collapse.

Nothing wrong with this.

The only complaint I have, which is an acknowledgement of the limitations of the players really, is the inability to rotate the strike thereby playing out a lot more dots than preferred.

But 100 without loss in 19 is reasonable with Fakhar able to accelerate to devastating effect or get out quite quickly attempting to do so.

As it goes both are around 82 S/R

Pakistan have set the target in their mind as around 300 and playing for it rather than playing according to the conditions.

Markram can actually be a pretty solid 6th bowling option for SA going forward, not much spin but pretty decent control.

Why is Imam treating Markram like Murali? Waiting for the ball to come to him, playing under his eyes. This guy has no spin, pitches at the same spot every time. You should be going down the stumps and maneuvering him to all parts of the ground. As impressed as I am with their composure, this is not the aggression that was promised by Babar

Looks like Imam's gone. He scores his fifty at a low strike rate and departs. Very typical. Limited batsman

not the worst outcome, babar should score a low pressure 70 plus at least and get that top ranking in ODIs, he may never get easier chance. Hope it's not a jinx.

At this stage of the game if Imam can work on his acceleration it would be pretty good for Pak and him. Shot selection and intention was good but execution could have been much better.

Got nothing against imam dont want him dropped

But he wastes the power play and has no release outlet with power hitting

He's a typical one who will play for their stats and leave the team hanging.

He's not gonna win you games and strike at 90+.

Imam going down with a whimper - but a platform has been set.

It's a good situation for Babar to come into.

Jon Jon Smuts is a left arm spinner. A potential challenge for Babar with his issues against left arm spin.

Imam has bery less impact on the game. Atleast babar once set can find the boundaries at ease and quickly accelerate to 100+ sr.

If Markham is going to bowl like this, jt will give him the edge of Malan as South Africa want a 6th bowler in the top 6.
