Sri Lanka v India l 3rd Test l Colombo (PSS) | 08/08/08 to 12/08/08

Lets be realistic here, now a 100 + run lead is just too much for this current Indian side who are looking out of sorts. However a fight back from Sachin with a 100 will make me feel a lot better in defeat....

Tony Greig mercilessly showing the stats for Fab 3 in the last year. All of them averaging 15/16.

And what makes you think India will be able to set them a target of 150 ? :)) ..

If Sehwag fires, that will be easy. Even if he doesnt, I think this time two of the BIG4 will score big, they will simply have to.

I don't think 100 will be enough (as much as I want to believe it is). Sehwag can cover 100 in a flash. In addition, the law of averages will probably make sure that one of the FAB4 will finally get going.
He averages 28.34 in the second innings and has only made a 100 once.

A lead of a 100 will inflict some serious pressure on the Indians. Even if they crawl to something like 300, the Sri Lankans would need 200 which should make them favorites. As it stands, this lead is growing and 150+ is definitely on.

Your point about the law averages stands, but I feel that they're going to need 2 big scores from individuals. Luckily for the Indians they've unraveled the Mendis mystery. :)))

Honestly i can't see fab4 to be doing anything special atleast in this match.because they will be under hell lot of pressure to save the match they know that Ishant is also unfit.

I think I better get the; "ahahahahahahahaaahah" thread ready to save Cars some trouble :)) .. I dont think India should feel so disheartened anyway we beat them once with a pretty out of form batting we carried during this whole tour. However we did whitewash them 2-0 in tests and 6-1 in the one dayers in India last time around...

cant remember when was the last time I saw such hopeless bowling (barring Zaheer), fielding and body language, all at the same time, in a morning session with 6 wkts down, from India. Normally they would have bowled out the side by lunch, but it looks as if Lanka will bat till tea.

actually, I will geuinely go 'ahahaha' if we lose because it will mean one step closer to getting rid of flabby3,4,5....however many need to go. :)))

And you're right, beating Lanka with 2 bowlers and 2 batsmen is a feat in itself. :D

Some gutsy batting by SL tails. I still don't feel India is at very poor position. With 100 runs lead, the disadvantage of batting last now seems compensated for SL. Let's hope we can wrap-up tail in another 25 runs or so...

The lead has now streched to 103. Lets hope that India can rattle the tail out in the next 20 runs. The big 4 will simply have to score big when they come to bat and Sehwag will need to get them off to good start.

Big wicket there; those two could have put Sri Lanka into a virtually unbeatable position. Lead of 150 looks tough from here, but 130 odd is on.

SL tails is wagging well; so far 73 runs have come from the bat of Chaminda vaas (47) + Dhammika (26*)

It's finally over. So Srilankan tail has done well to get a lead of almost 150. It seemed unlikely all along. Have to say Srilanka is ahead now, only slightly mind you.

Now it all depends on how well India bat. Being positive will be the key. If they get bogged down (for no reason), they will lose wickets. I know that it's unlikely that Sehwag or Gambhir will need any sermon about being positive, but it will be a real test of the FAB4 how positive they play and whether they let the spinners to get on top of them.

I just cant watch cricket in the subcontinent anymore....

Dont tknow if its the pitches, the commentators or just the appalling coverage dished up by Asian broadcasters, Id rather not watch.

LOL, Sehwag only knows one way to play, doesn't he? What a unique batsman!

Ind 42/0 (6.2 Overs)

How different the pitch/ conditions look when these two are at crease. Come "FAB 4", more often than not, it appears we are watching different game altogether.

Lead is down to 90. If Sehwag can stay unbeaten till the end of play today, Lanka will really be up against it.

whatever, but I don't think Srilanka will have any problem to win this match. even if we think of the extreme scenario that Sehwag once again bat through the innings, at most India will have a 150-160 lead. That won't trouble Srilanka considering that Ishant might be unavailable.

12.2 Prasad to Gambhir, OUT, Dammika takes out the off stump. It landed short of length and moved outside off stump and Gambhir went for the pull and got a inside edge to his stumps. Timber! Dammika stops in his followthrough, gets his index finger near his mouth to signal shsssh silence to the crowd that has exploded. Great scenes here for the hosts. The dashing openers are back to the pavilion. SRT has not come in, Sourav Ganguly has walked out
G Gambhir b Prasad 26 (43b 3x4 0x6) SR: 60.46

Four on leg side by Dada... he seems to be playing well to save his career, err... I mean India

I would love to know how much Arun Lal gets paid to do cricket commentary (if at all gets paid). Sometimes get a feel that he must be under some kind of "Buy Sanjay Manjrekar, get Arun Lal Free" kind of contract.

That is when he is most dangerous.

An easy chance?
Mahela is a very good slip fielder - so he should have taken it.

Not that straightforward though, Ganguly tried to play a shot to 3rd man opening the face of the bat - but it went to slip quite fast.

LOL
Mahela losing his mind now. Ganguly played it from the middle of the bat and he has asked for a review. Stupid really.

SL ask for a review, from a forward defensive by Ganguly. "Indian style" decision by Mahela as the ball hit the middle of the bat and went straight into the ground.

To his defence, the bat did hit the pad, so there would have been 2 noises. I think they thought the ball may have hit the pad, then bat and so asked for a review.

This should be Sachins last knock. That means he would have scored more than Bradman on his last innings - making him better right?

I think Chaminda Vaas's time is up. He is just a free rider who concedes too many runs and doesnt even bowl much any more. I think he has lost too much pace and should leave with dignity now. The likes of Mallinga, Fernando, Prasad e.t.c is the way to go for Sri Lanka in the future.

Either Sachin was barred from batting before four wickets fell, or this move of sending Babyface ahead of Tends was a little confused.

Very impressed by Mahela's unorthodox, yet very effective, field placings.

Right now for Murali, there is a leg slip, leg gully and short leg. With Murali bowling around, making use of the rough patches. Good stuff.

Sachin gets a let-off. Had they appealed, he was out! Mahela not at his best when it comes to referrals in this session.

SL wicketkeeper is very sharp behind the stumps. Makes a huge difference, especially when your best 2 bowlers are spinners.

back to back LBW review asked for Sachin.

Arun Lal, in both cases said not out, even before slow motions were displayed completely. :D

Interesting one, that last one.

Had the umpire given Tendulkar out, I dont think there was enough evidence to overturn the decison. So could have gone either way.

Absorbing cricket. Lankan reviews exhausted. Good game of cricket.
