Excellent game of cricket, these are the sort of matches which will revitalise Test cricket, an even contest between bat and ball, heck I wouldn't mind if the conditions are prepared in a way that favours the bowlers more than the batsmen, that way the batsmen can really work for their runs than accumulate runs on a lifeless track and inflate their average. Credit to both teams.

Is there something wrong with the pitch or the bowlers are just bowling superbly? 16 wickets lost on one day

Reminds me of an OZvSL match back in the early 2000s, when 15 wickets fell in a day.

Very entertaining test match, more of these sorts of pitches should be produced.

Hussey was magnificent, best batsmen on the planet for me.

As for Lyons, I wouldn't get too exicted since a certain Jason Krejza took a hatful on debut too. He bowled well but all 5 wickets were batsmen errors, on another day he could have gone wicketless even on such a helpful track.

Fair play to Lyons, not a bad debut, getting fifer and a wicket off your first ball. Let's see how he goes in the next couple.

Considering our spin stocks it is a very promising debut. For us.

Wouldn't be for Pakistan lol but it is for us.

About half an hour to go until the 3rd and final day of this game.

We lead by 283 and the pitch is turning into sand.

Should be over by tea. What odds Lyon 10 wickets on debut?

Finally, i'll watch this Test, been a busy week. Let's see how the next :warne performs, yeah i reckon he'll get a 10fer, Clarke should have a go too.

9.35am It's pretty dark at Galle. The ground is fully covered, and there are puddles of water on them. It has rained intermittently overnight. It's not coming down as we speak, but I seriously doubt a timely start - Guess the match is going be delayed

hope he is not another krejza :ahmed

Well I think Krejza had already conceded a 100 or so before he took some wickets. So it is more promising than that.

And more promising than others we have tried. Doesn't mean he will make it or our spin issues are solved. But if we can have vaguely competent spinner who can do damage on a helpful track that is really good for us.

His action reminds me of Swan a bit actually. Nowhere near the turn but same sort of windup.

Other thing is he won't get a better track to bowl on - but the conditions have given him an opportunity to influence the game - and he has. That's all we can ask really.

We're gonna join the ranks of NZ & WI in the future. At least we used to be good at home compared to this tripe on show, hope they stay with us :snack::35:

9.55am Better news from Galle. It has become much brighter in Galle, but there is a slight drizzle on. The excellent Galle ground staff have started to dry the covers already. Some of them are off too. A massively strong breeze might mean the clouds might get blown away. Smudgeon, meanwhile, has raised the stakes for Nathan Lyon. He says, "Judging by the bits & pieces I saw of the pitch on the telly last night, if Lyon can't pick up another 5 wickets in the second innings, he should consider a new career.

Australia may as well declare now, after the rain, conditions are going to be even more harder to bat on. SL will be very lucky to get 150.

Yeah true, the batsmen played some horrible shots against Lyon and most threw their wickets away. How awesome was that Ponting catch, hit so hard and his reaction and how he threw that ball in the air. At his age still fields like a youngsta beauty :waqar

I hope this match ends today so I can watch our game in peace for the remainder. :)

~Fast Forward~

All out 210. SL will be chasing 379

Copeland has nice control and bowls in a good line and length if only he was 10kph - 20kph more faster

Rhino!!

In other news, Dilshan is just awful. No footwork whatsoever. Should have been caught behind but not given.

Dilshan is a terrible bat. I've reinforced this F.A.C.T. multiple times on this board.

A good top-of-off-stump ball but Dilshan played it atrociously to be honest. A tail-end dismissal

Sri Lanka commie - 'Ryan Harris could give Dilshan a few tips on how to keep his bat and pad together' :)))

Yeah that was a terrible defensive shot by an opening batsman. That's how mostly tailenders gets out

Team chasing 379 and your captain hits three streaky boundaries before getting himself out. Take it back Sanga.

That Dilshan four which screamed in the air between slip and gully was horrendous. He seems to have no interest in his own wicket or the team's success - just out there for larks. Useless

Tony Greig - is there a chance Sangakarra and Mahela could just bat and bat and bat

(no, because it's a sporting pitch)

Really, often I think of the Australian team as something like a hardware store: filled with tools. Haddin's such a complete bowling-pin shapen ass.

If true, says a lot about English bowlers who let him score 193 at Lord's. :))) :wasim

Flat pitch
No Anderson
Broad in worst form ever
Finn had no confidence

Tamim Iqbal's effort the previous year was far more impressive.

Australia are all over Sri Lanka. Should be an early finish to the game unless Jayawardene and Matthews play a blinder.

SL took 20 wickets post murali retirement ... I think I am gonna cry a little. :D

some funny comments on cricinfo. LOL

"Since Shane Warne retired, Australia have been searching for a spinner when we had Ponting all along!" Tim is clearly excited about last night. Punter did create an opportunity.

"after reading the comments on how well Australia play in SL..may be they should play their next home Ashes series in Sri Lanka..that might actually win one.." That could be worth considering, Bertram.

lol Has Mendis pissed someone offffff bad or what ??? He hasnt played a game I think since the WC semi final...
