Twatto and Hussey just need to be patient and get themselves in. There will be plenty of runs on offer once the wicket settles down.

Do the Aussies believe in learning from past events?
I think Australia do, but I don't think Ponting does. Seems to be a very stubborn man.

If you'll bat first on a cloudy day at Headingley, you'll bat first anywhere.

I think punter is more worried about Swann then his own bating lineup, since this pitch is going to turn in the 2nd inning and specially if you are bating last.

Get Finn in. Oh wait, I forgot I'm supporting Aus... :ibutt

Australia have chosen a terrible team here. They only have one genuine batsman left in Haddin and then extreme bunnies down the order.

They somewhat deserve to lose this on selection. They've selected a team format you'd expect decades ago.

Anderson bowling beautifully here....could easily get 7 or more wickets in this innings

Well you'd have been at long odds to expect three batsmen back in the sheds after a couple of overs.

Dear oh dear, what a village shot that was by Ponting. Looked as if he guided it to slip.

Not just that. My point is there tail is waaay too long for modern cricket. You don't play test matches with 6 batsmen nowadays.

Errr Harris is a decent bat, better than MJ on current form.

Hilf is a rabbit so is Bollinger.

I fail to comprehend what you be saying, bro.

Even Lawry expecting a wicket every ball! "Gaaaaaawwwwn". :)))

Good that Hussey is back in form otherwise, it would have been curtains for Aussies.

North should have been dropped for a specialist bat. I'm assuming by 'form' you mean domestic cricket as Harris hasn't played test recently. Did he also make a century in his last FC game a la Johnson? Harris has a highest int. score of 21 lol.

Yes, but the problem in the side has historically been bowling for the past couple of years. Siddle, Harris and Doherty are decent tailenders - it's only really Hilf and Bollywood who are mugs with the bat. MJ of course has scored a couple of Test tons by cowlashing. This lot collectively average about 40-50 with the bat. If they're having to consistently deliver more than that each Test then there's something wrong with the blokes ahead of them. I reckon you have to pick a bowling attack based on its ability to take 20 Test wickets, not necessarily what they can deliver with the bat. Any runs they deliver would be a bonus.

The big problem here is a lack of patience from the top order - too eager to score runs. I'm all for being positive, but if the ball is swinging you need to dig in and weather the storm.

From memory isn't Adelaide meant to be a flat track and brisbane, fast and bouncy! It seems they swapped the wickets around ...

These two are hanging in, and they need to. Once they're settled the runs will be there for them. They just need to dig in at the moment. It's a true pitch with plenty for bowlers but also batsmen who apply themselves.

lol before this series .. Hussey's position was doubtful ... this shows .... masterclass is always required ... they make their own way may be we can learn something from this

True, maybe not the worst move if they thought this would be a regular Adelaide flat deck. Having said that, I still would have dropped North for a specialist bat as they'd retained Xavier.

lol what a start by the Aussies.

This media stuff has really put pressure on them, it's played with their head. They're too focused on making an impression, mind games with the English, pressure of loosing the ashes again. All they have to do is play cricket. Terrible start, they should have been patient enough to see out the first few overs. Ridiculous play.

Let's see if the Aussies can dig themselves out of a hole. I really doubt it though.
